Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 366: Chapter 366 Truth and Human Nature

It turned out that back then, when Qin Lijuan took advantage of the chaos in the delivery room to switch the two babies, Fang Zhichun had indeed witnessed it. She initially wanted to speak up and stop her. However, she considered that Xia Dongxue already had three sons and had been longing for a daughter. If this child went to the Ye Family to become Xia Dongxue’s daughter, she would certainly be pampered by the whole family as she grew up. Even if trouble arose in the future, it couldn’t be blamed on me, she thought.

Seeing her pause, Ye Bingyu said coldly, ”Continue.”

Fang Zhichun deliberately tried to be evasive. ”I’ve told you everything there is to say.”

Ye Bingyu suddenly raised his voice. ”It seems you don’t want your son to have an easy time. Then let me help you with that!”

Fang Zhichun, terrified by his serious tone, quickly pleaded, ”No, no, no, I’ll talk, I’ll talk...”

Knowing she could no longer hide the truth, and although she wasn’t convinced this man would truly let her son off the hook even if she confessed, she didn’t want to risk her son’s safety. So, she steeled her heart. ”After Qin Lijuan switched the two children, I had planned to be discharged from the hospital the next day.

”However, I didn’t expect my sister-in-law, Zhang Baoxiang, to also come and join the commotion that day. At the family quarters, she learned that my husband had encountered a mishap while on duty and was likely unable to stay in the army. This news caused her to panic and go into labor prematurely, also giving birth to a daughter.

”At that time, a typhoon was passing through, so most of the medical staff had gone out to provide disaster relief. Additionally, the hospital buildings were damaged. Consequently, all the mothers who gave birth that day were placed in one large ward for easier care.

”After I woke up, I inadvertently overheard my mother-in-law and sister-in-law talking and learned that my husband had been in an accident. I feared that our family would have to leave the family quarters before I even finished my maternity confinement.

”I was worried that if the child with the Ye family grew up, they’d eventually realize she wasn’t their biological child. Then it occurred to me that my sister-in-law’s daughter was, after all, a Ye family child and would likely bear some resemblance to the family elders. My own daughter, on the other hand, might grow up to look a bit like her aunt, Zhang Baoxiang. So, I seized an opportunity before Xia Dongxue woke up and switched Wen Yue and Wenjuan.

”Because the typhoon had caused severe damage, the entire troop was mobilized for disaster relief, and everyone was in a state of panic. Plus, girls were somewhat undervalued, so the matter just managed to slip through unnoticed.”

Ye Bingyu’s fists clenched tightly. He stared at Fang Zhichun as if she were already dead. This woman had been friends with his wife, yet she could commit such a heinous act. ”Why did you abandon that child?”

To prevent her from denying it, he warned directly, ”Don’t even think about playing tricks. If you tell even half a lie, and your son ends up crippled, don’t you dare regret it.”

Fang Zhichun had no choice but to be honest. ”First, it was a year of famine, and times were hard at home; I wanted to spare my family the burden of feeding another mouth. Second, my friend Xia Dongxue called, saying she was going to stop by while on a business trip. I was afraid the truth would come out. So, I took the chance when my in-laws weren’t paying attention, took the baby out, and abandoned her at the station.”

Having obtained the information he wanted, Ye Bingyu could hold back no longer. He didn’t make a habit of hitting women, but those who had hurt his daughter were worse than beasts. After turning off the recording device, he unleashed a barrage of fists on Fang Zhichun until she fell unconscious.

Only then did he drag her out and dump her at the front gate of the Zhang Family before driving off with the evidence.

Upon returning to Beijing, the first thing he did was summon his cousin from a collateral branch, Ye Bingkun, and his wife to the old family house.

When the couple heard the two recordings, they were utterly stunned.

Once Ye Bingkun regained his composure, his face burned with shame. He felt unable to face his older cousin and cousin-in-law. My own daughter was raised so delicately in Big Cousin’s home, while the child who should have been theirs was abandoned by my own wife’s sister-in-law! And to top it all off, my own family has been raising the child of that culprit! I really want to find a hole to crawl into. What can I even say?
