Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 386: Chapter 386 We Need to Keep a Low Profile

Cheng Lanlan left and headed straight to her mother-in-law’s place.

Upon seeing her eldest daughter-in-law arrive, Auntie Wei asked, ”Lanlan, what brings you over here?”

She knew her eldest daughter-in-law was off work today, but ever since they had moved to the Chu Family compound, they seldom came over without a reason.

Cheng Lanlan stepped forward, ”Mom, Yunyi is back.”

Auntie Wei thought she had misheard. ”What did you say? Who’s back?”

Cheng Lanlan smiled. ”Mom, you heard right. It’s Yunyi; she’s back.”

Confusion spread across Auntie Wei’s face. ”What’s going on? Why did she come back at this time?”

She put down what she was holding and headed for the door. No, I must go and see if something happened.

Just as Yunyi had finished wiping the cabinet, Auntie Wei burst in hastily, ”Yunyi, why are you back? No, I mean...”

She slapped her thigh. ”I don’t mean anything by it. It’s just that your sister-in-law told me you were back, and I was worried something had happened to you.”

Yunyi laughed. ”No need to explain, how could I not know?”

Without holding back, she shared the sudden opportunity to act in a film with Auntie Wei. ”Auntie, I won’t be staying long this time. As soon as things wrap up here, I’ll have to leave again.”

When Auntie Wei heard about the movie, her eyes lit up instantly. ”What did you say? You’ve become an actress? Oh my, does that mean we can see you in the cinema?”

Yunyi nodded with a smile. ”We don’t know when it’ll be screened yet.”

Auntie Wei didn’t care about that. ”Anyway, if it’s filmed, it will definitely be screened. We’ll get to see it eventually.”

Her eyes sparkled as she looked at Yunyi. ”Oh my Lord, this is incredible! I’ve got to spread the word, make sure all our neighbors come see the movie you’re in.”

Yunyi quickly intervened, ”Auntie, please don’t. Let’s wait until the movie is actually screened. It’s better to say something only when we’re absolutely sure.”

Auntie Wei, recalling Yunyi’s temperament and also wanting to avoid causing her trouble, agreed, ”Right, right, right, we must keep it low-key.”

Even though not being able to share the news was a bit disappointing, the excitement was undeniable on her face. ”Then you must come over for dinner tonight. We’ll consider it a celebration for you; you can’t refuse.”

Thinking of the things Yunyi had sent back before, Auntie Wei added, ”By the way, it’s not easy for you being out there alone. Don’t send us things anymore. Taking good care of yourself is what’s most important.”

Yunyi understood her intent. ”Auntie, you all care for me and send me things from time to time, so naturally I want to express my appreciation too.”

While they were talking, Wei Hongyan walked in. Upon seeing Yunyi, she thought she was seeing things and rubbed her eyes in disbelief. ”Ah, Yunyi, how come you’re back?”

Excitedly, she ran up and hugged Yunyi tightly.

Watching her daughter behave like this, Auntie Wei couldn’t help but tap her. ”Can’t you be a bit more composed? You nearly knocked her over!”

Wei Hongyan let go, slightly embarrassed. ”I was just too excited.”

When she learned the reason for Yunyi’s return, she grew even more excited and practically jumped. ”Yunyi, you’re amazing! When the movie comes out, I’ll definitely bring people to watch!”

She circled Yunyi and said, ”I never imagined such an opportunity would come from going to the countryside. I’m even a little envious of your luck.”

Seeing it was getting late, Auntie Wei said, ”Yunyi, I’m going back to start preparing dinner. Have Yanzi help you tidy up your place, and then come over later.”

Without waiting for a response, she turned and hurried off.
