Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 380: Chapter 380 Can I Hug You?

Afraid they would offer more reasons to persuade her, Yunyi said, ”Also, my adoptive parents and my grandfather love me dearly; they’ve given me all their love. Although I’m not a Chu Family member by birth, I can’t just walk away from them without a second thought. So, while I’m willing to acknowledge our biological connection, I won’t change my surname. As long as I am here, I represent the continuation of the Chu Family.”

Upon hearing this, the Ye family fell silent. Yunyi wasn’t wrong; forcing her to revert to the Ye surname would indeed be unfair to the Chu Family. After all, Shi Jingfang had previously told Ye Bingyu about Yunyi’s general situation, and he had personally investigated it. The Chu Family truly treasured Yunyi like a gem, so the Ye family knew they couldn’t afford to be obstinate.

At this moment, Ye Bingyu spoke. ”Indeed, we’ve been inconsiderate. Since you don’t wish to change your surname back to Ye, we respect your decision. However, I still hope you’ll come live with the Ye Family.”

Yunyi looked at Ye Bingyu. ”When you say that, you don’t sound very confident, do you? I’m about to come of age; I’m not a child anymore. Everyone knows what the situation in the city is like. Insisting on this is meaningless, don’t you think?”

Hearing Yunyi’s frank words, Ye Bingyu was overcome with shame. ”Yunyi, I...”

At that moment, Ye Wenhui spoke up. ”Mom, Dad, since this is what our sister wishes, let’s respect her decision. Even if she doesn’t change her surname back to Ye, and even if she doesn’t come to live with the Ye Family, she’s still my sister. She’s your daughter, a child of the Ye Family.”

Ye Wenhao quickly agreed. ”That’s right. As long as our sister acknowledges us, everything else is a minor detail.”

For the brothers, the priority now was to officially acknowledge their sister; other matters truly weren’t as important. Besides, Yunyi had previously mentioned she was already in a relationship and might marry soon, so fretting over whether she would live with the Ye Family at this point was pointless. Moreover, considering the current situation in the city, while it wasn’t impossible to arrange for their sister to return to the city, it wouldn’t be simple. After all, there was already some dissatisfaction directed at their family due to Wen Yue’s recent joining of the cultural troupe.

Yunyi couldn’t help but scoff inwardly. So, this is how pragmatic people are. It’s not that they’re bad, nor that they don’t love their biological daughter, but it’s human nature to seek advantages and avoid disadvantages when faced with reality. If she wanted to return to the city, she could find a way herself, even without the Hua Family or the Gu Family. She was simply going with the flow in this situation. Besides, she was quite satisfied with her current life—free and unrestrained, just as she wanted. Therefore, whether or not she returned to the Ye Family wasn’t particularly important to her.

Shi Jingfang was also softly consoling Xia Dongxue. From this brief interaction, the Ye parents had sensed that Yunyi was a person with a strong will. They understood that being insistent would only make Yunyi more reluctant to return to the Ye Family. Their sons were right: even if she didn’t come back to live with them, the fact remained that she was their daughter. For now, the most important thing was to officially acknowledge her.

Seeing his wife relent, Ye Bingyu looked at Yunyi. ”We agree to what you’ve said.”

Tears welled in Xia Dongxue’s eyes. ”Yunyi, may I hug you?”

Yunyi nodded gently. ”You may.”

The moment Xia Dongxue wrapped her arms around Yunyi, she burst into tears. ”Oh, thank goodness we’ve found each other! Mama was so afraid, so scared that I’d go my whole life without knowing about this, without ever knowing you existed.”

Hearing his wife’s words, Ye Bingyu’s eyes also reddened.

Noticing Yunyi looked slightly uncomfortable, Ye Wenhao, worried that his mother’s emotional display might overwhelm his sister, said, ”Mom, that’s enough. If you keep going like this, our sister’s clothes will be soaked.”

With that, he gently pulled his mother back.
