House Dad's Literary Life

Chapter 447: He Came Sooner Than Expected

The next day, Yang Yi and Mo Fei were busy decorating the house. Although they couldn’t decorate the house in a pastoral style, they still did their best to accommodate the habits of the soon-to-arrive Mo Henian. Yang Yi also drove his Tyrant Wolf out to shop from time to time, which left the paparazzi lying in wait around Jiangcheng Media University somewhat puzzled.

Yang Yi wasn’t in the mood to deal with these people at the moment. The two sides seemed to be getting along peacefully for the time being.

A customer did come to the coffee shop, though—Du Yuanlei, who had been shut away studying the script for nearly a month, finally came by.

However, after learning from Yang Huan about the “trouble” Yang Yi was currently facing, she wisely decided not to bother him. She planned to first find some suitable actors for the roles, then discuss it with Yang Yi after he had finished dealing with his personal affairs and let him make the final decision.

As for Mo Xiaojuan, she had originally planned to discuss the contract with Guo Ziyi after returning from the concert, but now that also had to be postponed. For the time being, Mo Xiaojuan was also in a state of being overwhelmed. On one hand, she had to help Mo Fei deal with the endless pursuit of the media, while on the other hand, she also had to deal with Zhou Mengyu’s inquiries.

It seemed as if the whole world had stopped turning because of Mo Henian’s arrival, allowing Yang Yi to devote himself wholeheartedly to preparing for the arrival of his murderous father-in-law.

The tense day finally passed. As night fell, Xixi, who had gone to kindergarten, also returned. The little girl chattered to her parents about the fun things that had happened at kindergarten. Her childish voice eased some of the tense atmosphere in the house.

However, after Xixi finished talking about her story, she remembered her grandfather, who loved her the most, and immediately ran to the kitchen.

“Papa, I completely forgot!” Xixi held onto the doorframe and poked her little head inside, grinning happily for no particular reason. “When is Grandpa coming?”

“Xixi, you need to get used to speaking Chinese. Papa doesn’t know when Grandpa is coming either. It should be soon, right? You ask Mama.” Yang Yi was busy stir-frying the dishes, his back somewhat stiff as he spoke.

“Okay, then!” Xixi was a little disappointed. She turned around and ran back to the living room, throwing herself into her mother’s arms. “Mama, Grandpa… um, when is Grandpa coming?”

“Mama doesn’t know either. I can’t get through to his phone. Grandpa might still be on the plane.” Mo Fei said helplessly.

However, while they were eating, Mo Fei’s phone rang.

Immediately, Yang Yi and Mo Fei both suddenly stiffened. They exchanged a glance and could both see the tension in each other’s eyes.

Could it be that Grandpa was calling?

Only Xixi was completely unaffected. She didn’t care about the phone call at all. The little girl tugged at her father’s hand and said with her cheeks puffed out, “Papa, I want to eat this shrimp!”

When Yang Yi was picking up food for Xixi, his attention was on Mo Fei. Fortunately, his movements were practiced enough that he didn’t accidentally put the oil-braised prawns onto Xixi’s clothes.

Mo Fei got up to get her phone. After looking at the incoming call notification, she smiled and looked up at Yang Yi, saying, “It’s Xiaojuan calling.”

That’s good… Yang Yi also felt relieved.

Although he was only deceiving himself, he could at least put off this “death sentence” for another day!

However, Mo Fei, who was answering the phone, suddenly smiled bitterly. She said to Mo Xiaojuan on the other end, “Mm, I know. Drive carefully. Give me a call when you pick him up…”

Yang Yi’s heart tightened again.

What was going on?

After Mo Fei put down the phone, she smiled helplessly at Yang Yi. Her next words confirmed Yang Yi’s guess. “My father has gotten off the plane, and he asked Xiaojuan to pick him up.”

That made sense. Mo Henian had never been here before, so how could he possibly know where Yang Yi and Mo Fei lived?

“Grandpa is here?” Xixi reacted quickly. She put down her spoon and asked happily.

“Mm, he’s here, but he hasn’t arrived yet. He’s only at the airport.” Mo Fei said to Xixi.

Yang Yi hurriedly stood up and said, “How about we go to the airport to pick him up now? My car is fast. Tell Xiaojuan not to go.”

It was his father-in-law’s first time coming here. How could he not go out to welcome him?

However, Mo Fei shook her head and said, “He didn’t call me, which means he doesn’t want me to pick him up. There’s no point in going now. Just wait at home!”

Mo Fei knew her father’s temper.

Xixi sensed her father’s nervousness and worry. She tugged at her father’s hand and said innocently, “Papa, don’t be afraid. Grandpa is fierce, but I’ll tell Grandpa not to be fierce to my Papa!”

Yang Yi felt warm in his heart. He kissed his daughter on the forehead and said, “Thank you, Xixi. You’re so good.”

However, no matter how good his daughter was, she could only give him emotional support. Yang Yi still had to prepare, and he couldn’t avoid being nervous.

Yang Yi quickly took a couple of bites of rice. He couldn’t sit still, so he wiped his hands and said to Mo Fei, “I’ll make a few more dishes your father likes. I’ll cook some more rice too, for him and Mo Xiaojuan to eat. They probably haven’t had dinner yet.”

It was his father-in-law’s first time coming. He couldn’t possibly let him eat leftovers, right?

Moreover, Yang Yi had to put two thousand percent of his effort into making this meal abundant and delicious!

Fortunately, he had prepared plenty of ingredients in the refrigerator, and many of them were bought after asking Mo Fei for advice.

“Mm.” Mo Fei nodded gently.

She couldn’t eat anymore either. After making sure Xixi was full, she also helped Yang Yi wash the dishes and chopsticks. Then she came out and looked around, afraid that something had been placed improperly or that a leaf had fallen from one of the flower arrangements. She looked completely restless.

……

It was getting quite late at night, and lively atmosphere on the campus roads in the teaching area of Jiangcheng Media University had long since subsided. Only a few scattered students returning from the self-study rooms in the teaching buildings could be seen walking beneath the shadows of the trees on both sides of the road.

Blocked by the leaves, even the streetlights seemed dim and yellow. As the night wind blew past, the lights swayed, making the scene seem somewhat eerie.

At this moment, a silver-gray sedan pierced through the night and slowly drove along the campus road.

Inside the car, Mo Xiaojuan drove while quietly introducing the place to her uncle. “This is Jiangcheng Media University. Brother-in-law… cough, my sister and the others live at the back entrance. They live upstairs above a coffee shop, and the coffee shop is also… owned by him.”

Mo Xiaojuan had been scolded several times by Mo Henian on the way, so she was already very careful with her words.

“Hmph!” Mo Henian made a sound through his nose. He looked outside, and it was impossible to tell what expression he had.

After the car drove out through the back entrance, Mo Xiaojuan saw Yang Yi, Mo Fei, and Xixi waiting at the intersection, with Yang Yi holding a camping lantern and Xixi in his arms.

“We’re here, Uncle. Look, Sister is waiting for you!” Mo Xiaojuan exclaimed in surprise.

She tried to liven up the atmosphere a little, but Mo Henian didn’t respond and wasn’t surprised or pleased at all. The car’s lights were dim, which made his expression look even worse, so dark that it seemed as if ink might flow from his face.

“Brother-in-law, I’ve done my best. You’re on your own now…” Seeing the situation, Mo Xiaojuan could only sigh inwardly.

Outside, Mo Fei saw Mo Xiaojuan’s car and quickly tugged lightly at Xixi’s little hand as the girl was curiously looking at the camping lantern. “Xixi, look, your grandpa is here!”

“Where?” Xixi raised her head, her little face full of delight.

“In that car…”

Mo Xiaojuan didn’t stop her car. She drove it directly to the front of the coffee shop, while Yang Yi carried Xixi and walked with Mo Fei along the small path around to the entrance of the coffee shop, where they waited nervously.

Before Yang Yi could step forward, the passenger-side door opened. Then, in Yang Yi’s eyes, an energetic old man with a stern expression stepped out of the car.
