Chapter 424: The Person Here Was More Beautiful Than the Flowers

Time had quietly slipped into March. The continuous spring rains had begun to trouble this small Jiangnan town, bringing considerable inconvenience to people’s travels. However, the fine rain drifting through the air like floating willow catkins also added a touch of charm to the mountains and waters surrounding the coffee shop.

As Yang Yi returned from outside, he spotted Mo Fei from inside the car. Holding an oil-paper umbrella, she was trudging through the muddy flower bed, taking uneven steps as she busily covered the delicate flower seedlings with plastic sheeting.

Of course, Yang Huan and Lin Mu’an were helping as well, dressed in raincoats—Ding Xiang had classes on Monday morning. But among everyone there, Yang Yi’s eyes went straight to his wife.

The flowers had not yet bloomed, but the person was even more beautiful than the flowers!

Perhaps it was because of that oil-paper umbrella, or perhaps because of Mo Fei’s graceful figure in the rain, Yang Yi suddenly remembered the beautiful modern poem “Rainy Alley” from his previous life—the girl holding an oil-paper umbrella, wandering alone, entwined with sorrow and melancholy.

Of course, Mo Fei carried no sorrow or melancholy. When she looked up and saw Yang Yi getting out of the car, she waved to him happily and called out, “Yang Yi, come over and help us pull that corner over there!”

Yang Yi smiled slightly, walked over, and helped them finish securing it.

After returning upstairs, Yang Yi took Mo Fei’s umbrella and hung it on the balcony to dry. Mo Fei changed into her home pajamas, then came over carrying a soft, dry towel.

“Help me dry my hair.” Mo Fei handed him the towel and smiled, her eyes sparkling like jewels as she looked at Yang Yi.

She could have dried her hair herself, of course, but after confirming her relationship with Yang Yi, Mo Fei had grown to enjoy the feeling of the two of them being close together.

While drying Mo Fei’s hair, Yang Yi considered his words for a moment before telling her, “You can go to the company tomorrow without any worries. Everything has already been taken care of.”

“What?” Mo Fei hadn’t quite processed his words yet.

“I’ve already had someone talk things through with Niu Meiling. She can now calmly accept your departure. Although she probably won’t be able to completely let go of it, at least she won’t be as emotional as before,” Yang Yi said gently.

“Really?” Mo Fei asked, turning her head to look at Yang Yi in pleasant surprise.

“Mm. Being able to part on good terms is already something quite rare,” Yang Yi said with a faint smile.

“That’s enough for me. I never expected Sister Ling to treat me the same way she did before. I just don’t want us to become enemies. If we can still nod and greet each other when we meet in the future, that’s enough,” Mo Fei said gratefully.

“Thank you, husband.” Mo Fei turned around and hugged Yang Yi tightly, tears glimmering in her eyes.

Mo Fei didn’t ask what methods Yang Yi had used. She was smart enough to understand that if Yang Yi could tell her, he would. And If there were things he couldn’t tell her, pressing him for answers would only cause him trouble.

“Silly girl! Why are you thanking me? Your problems are my problems too, aren’t they?” Yang Yi smiled and gently patted Mo Fei’s head.

After comforting the somewhat sentimental Mo Fei, Yang Yi went to the study and pulled a USB drive out of his pocket.

Yang Yi stared at the USB drive with a furrowed brow. He turned it over in his hand for a while, shook his head, and only then placed it inside a hidden compartment in his bookshelf.

……

Time went back to that morning. After Yang Yi dropped Xixi off at kindergarten, he went to the “old place” to meet Ju Jie.

Ju Jie proudly told Yang Yi about his accomplishment. It was like he was asking for praise—no, he was asking for praise. He even plugged the USB drive that Niu Meiling had previously given to Jian Chuo into the laptop he brought with him, showing off the scandal-related information he had obtained after going through “countless hardships.”

“Boss Mu Li’ang, just this information alone is worth five hundred thousand yuan. Not to mention my dad later gave my aunt some financial compensation as well.” Ju Jie waved his hand and said with a grin. “But what does that matter? If something can be solved with money, then it’s not a problem! Boss, my performance this time was pretty good, right?”

Naturally, he had done a good job. Yang Yi was very satisfied with his performance—he deserved a reward!

What would the reward be? Naturally, it wouldn’t be money. Ju Jie wasn’t lacking money. Yang Yi gave Ju Jie the complete musical score and lyrics for “That Night.”

However, for the second song, Yang Yi only sang it once a cappella and kept the sheet music and lyrics for himself for the time being.

“Giving you this song now would be useless. With your current singing ability, you won’t be able to handle it. Releasing it at this stage would only ruin the song.” Yang Yi said calmly to Ju Jie.

Ju Jie really liked the second song. It wasn’t only because the sadness expressed in the lyrics was similar to “That Night”, and perhaps even surpassed it. More importantly, the melody was deeply moving. From beginning to end, it was unforgettable. The entire song could be described as one climax after another, making people unable to stop listening.

Yang Yi had just performed the song perfectly with his hoarse voice. Listening from the side, Ju Jie was so captivated that he couldn’t help wanting to belt it out himself.

But Ju Jie also understood that Boss Mu Li’ang was right. This wasn’t a song he could handle. It demanded powerful, full-throated singing from beginning to end, and Ju Jie couldn’t even keep up with the breathing…

“Then what should I do?” Ju Jie said with a a mournful look on his face. “Boss Mu Li’ang, you can’t not give me this song! I think this song was tailor-made for me!”

Tailor-made? Yang Yi actually wanted to smack this idiot, but he held himself back. This guy was sometimes annoying and foolish, but when it mattered, he could still be useful.

Moreover, Yang Yi also thought that “cultivating” Ju Jie was a very interesting thing. He wanted to see what kind of achievements this little guinea pig—no, this spoiled young master—could achieve when he was built up with one “legendary song” after another.

“Don’t worry. As long as Mo Fei can leave Tianmei normally, I will still give you this song. I, Mu Li’ang, never break my word. Besides, this won’t be the only time we cooperate,” Yang Yi said with a faint smile.

“Also, releasing these two songs separately will be better for you. It can sustain your popularity for a much longer period. I suggest that starting today, you honestly work on your singing skills. By the time I give you the song, you’ll be able to sing it. And once you have some actual vocal ability, I won’t have to worry about you ruining my works when I want to give you more songs in the future!”

Ju Jie was hot-headed by nature and couldn’t stand being nagged, especially when people kept telling him to work on his singing or learn this and that. In the past, Du Lun had known better—once he saw Ju Jie getting annoyed, he never brought it up a second time. But now, when it came to Boss Mu Li’ang’s instructions, no matter how irritated Ju Jie felt, he had no choice but to listen obediently.

Besides, he truly wanted to sing the second song. Just thinking about it made him itch with anticipation.

Moreover, just imagining himself one day standing on stage, belting out the song, with countless fans below cheering in admiration, filled Ju Jie with excitement.

He gritted his teeth and said, “Fine, Boss Mu Li’ang, I’ll learn. I’ll have my aunt find me a vocal teacher when I get back. I refuse to believe I can’t sing this song well!”
