Chapter 418: Cleaning Up the Mess

At Yang Yi’s home, the condition of the three cats had been drawing everyone’s attention these past few days.

The first night was the most troublesome. Perhaps because they were feeling uncomfortable, the cats kept meowing restlessly in the middle of the night. When Yang Yi went to comfort them, he even got scratched.

By the second day, their moods had improved a bit. Yang Yi fed them water and food, but to prevent them from licking their wounds, he put Elizabethan collars on them. And to keep them from rubbing against things and hurting their wounds, Yang Yi even dressed them in cat pants…

Today, Yang Yi pulled down their little pants and saw that the wounds had already started to scab over, with some fur growing back around them. Only then did Yang Yi decide to remove their “armor.”

However, this would have to wait until Xixi comes back. The little girl had been the most worried about her three little friends, staying with them every day and not even wanting to watch her favorite cartoons.

“Do you think they’ll become listless after… you know?” Mo Fei asked after returning home. She squatted down and watched the cats for a while, even smoothing their fur.

“Probably not. Didn’t you see them jumping around again today? Plus, the books say that after being neutered, cats become more docile and home-loving.” Yang Yi smiled and pointed to Xiao Hui, who was basking in the sun by the balcony window, saying, “Look at this guy. Before, he used to always want to run outside, making you afraid to open the windows. Now, he’s so well-behaved.”

At this moment, Yang Yi’s phone rang. His phone had dual SIM cards, and the call came through the secondary number, which only Ju Jie knew.

Why would Ju Jie call him at this time? Yang Yi frowned but still went to the study to answer it.

As soon as the call connected, Yang Yi heard Ju Jie complaining, “Boss Mu Li’ang, you’re not being fair! Didn’t we agree that I would help you come up with a plan to appease my aunt? How come Sister Mo Fei went ahead and told her about not renewing the contract first?”

“Mo Fei told Niu Meiling about this?” Yang Yi was stunned.

“Yeah! It just happened today. You have no idea, my aunt almost exploded on the spot! And she’s even planning to retaliate against Sister Mo Fei. I heard that a paparazzi hunter managed to snap photos of you two registering at the Civil Affairs Bureau, and my aunt bought them. Now she’s getting ready to leak them!” Ju Jie said.

There were really too many surprises!

Yang Yi was stunned again. His mind raced, and he finally remembered the strange feeling he had overlooked that day.

First, someone was following them by car, and then, at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau, he felt a fleeting sense of being watched!

It was probably at that moment that he and Mo Fei were secretly photographed! Looking back now, Yang Yi couldn’t help but want to slap himself: “Damn it, and you call yourself a top assassin? Have you gotten too comfortable with this peaceful life? How did you not notice this?!”

However, Ju Jie was calling to claim credit. He proudly said, “But, Boss Mu Li’ang! you don’t need to worry. Fortunately, I came to the company today and heard my aunt talking about it. I went through a ton of effort to calm her down.”

Yang Yi’s expression eased slightly, and he asked, “Are you saying that the matter has been resolved?”

Ju Jie paused for a moment, then said somewhat awkwardly “Not yet. My aunt still hasn’t let it go. But don’t worry, she no longer wants to make things worse, so she won’t leak those photos. She just can’t get over that hurdle in her heart right now!”

“But Boss Mu Li’ang, don’t worry! My dad will be back from Australia in just a couple of days, and he will persuade my aunt. She listens to my dad the most. I promise I’ll handle this matter perfectly for you!” Ju Jie said confidently.

“Okay then, I’ll wait for your good news!”

On the other end of the line, “Mu Li’ang” hung up first, but Ju Jie didn’t mind. He proudly said to Du Lun beside him, “My aunt is just stubborn about saving face, but I think once my dad is back, everything will be fine! Good thing I was quick-witted and talked her into putting the plan on hold. Otherwise, those two songs of mine would have flown away like cooked ducks!”

Du Lun, however, wasn’t concerned about that issue. His breathing was a bit heavy as he asked Ju Jie, “You said your aunt spent 500,000 yuan to buy those photos?”

“Yeah! Don’t you think that paparazzi is ridiculously greedy?”

……

After hanging up the call, Yang Yi was mostly filled with self-reproach. He sat in his study, lost in thought, reflecting on his mistake.

This time, being photographed by the paparazzi hunter, although it didn’t seem like a big deal—in his view, it was just an exposure. After all, Mo Fei had already planned to be honest about their relationship; she was just waiting for the contract to end before making it public. However, what this incident truly revealed was his growing complacency and his increasingly weakened sense of vigilance!

If a wolf loses its claws and fangs, then it’s no longer a wolf—it’s a husky!

Although Yang Yi didn’t want to go back to the days of fighting and killing, danger always lurked beneath the calm surface. If he became just like everyone else, how could he shoulder the responsibility of protecting Xixi and Mo Fei?

Just as Yang Yi was tangled up in self-reproach, Mo Fei was also feeling puzzled because Yang Yi rarely made phone calls behind her back, let alone shut himself in the study for such a long time without coming out. Curious, she walked over to check on him.

“What’s wrong?” The sound of Mo Fei approaching had already alerted Yang Yi. He looked up to see her concerned eyes.

“Nothing.” Yang Yi gathered his thoughts and smiled at Mo Fei. “But come here.”

“Why are you secretly making phone calls?” Mo Fei muttered, but still obediently walked over.

Yang Yi pulled her into his arms, then pinched her nose affectionately and asked with a hint of indulgence, “You… why didn’t you listen to me? I told you I would help solve it, so why did you secretly go to Niu Meiling and confess on your own?”

“Ah, you found out?” Mo Fei’s face showed an awkward expression.

“Mm! You suddenly told Niu Meiling, which put me in a really passive position.”

“But you told me to talk to Sister Ling directly!” Mo Fei said unconvinced, “You can’t blame me.”

“I told you to talk to her directly?” Yang Yi was stunned for a moment.

Mo Fei then repeated what Yang Yi had said that day.

“Alright, I didn’t express myself clearly and caused you to misunderstand…” Yang Yi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, “What I meant was that I would have someone talk to Niu Meiling directly about the issue, not for you to go and say it yourself.”

“Is it very troublesome now? Sigh, I told Sister Ling directly, and she got really angry. I feel like I’ve made things worse again!” Mo Fei looked at Yang Yi worriedly.

“It’s a bit troublesome, but it’s okay. The person I’ve found should be reliable. He should be able to mediate for us.” Yang Yi rubbed Mo Fei’s head, comforting her with a smile.

He didn’t tell Mo Fei more details because there was no need for her to be exposed to too much of the dark side of human nature. Since she was leaving, it was better to leave with good memories.

“Why do I always mess things up when I mean well?” Mo Fei blamed herself.

“Don’t worry, you still have me, don’t you? Even if you poke a hole in the sky, I’ll patch it up for you!” Yang Yi said with a smile.

Mo Fei felt sweet in her heart, but she still shook her head and said, “I don’t want you always cleaning up after me. I’m not a three-year-old child. I’ll try to be more careful in the future and not cause trouble for everyone.”

“Actually, causing trouble isn’t a big deal. I just have a strong interest in the act of cleaning up after you!” Yang Yi grinned mischievously.

“You’re so annoying! In broad daylight too…”
