Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 917: Fate, Destiny, Luck, Karma, and Divination

”In that case, why donʼt you personally cause something big to force fate to consider it something big, which will ultimately shift it away from the fate of her father?”

When he heard that possibility, it felt like thunder reverberating in his ears. Nathan simply couldnʼt believe he hadnʼt considered such a thing from the beginning.

His luck might be bad, but unlike fate, it could be changed to a certain extent.

In other words, if he changed the target of his bad luck, that bad luck should stop working for a certain period.

ʼNow that I think about it, even on the previous mission where we encountered a warrior class mutant… I might be able to create a situation where there wouldnʼt be any mutant appearing.

ʼFor example, I could make myself forget to bring a certain thing that could make me have a hard time against warrior class aliens, but this kind of thing would shift my bad luck from the mutant appearance to the increase of difficulty against warrior class aliens.

ʼWhile itʼs true that the situation worsens, several warrior class aliens are easier than a warrior class mutant.

ʼOr what if I change my bad luck from an elite class alien under the sea to a huge alien invasion? While itʼs true that I canʼt create something from nothing, I can jinx myself.

ʼMaybe I can jinx myself saying this is a clear day and thereʼs no alien invasion in sight. This way, wonʼt it make my bad luck create an alien invasion, which is to protect the port city?

ʼOf course, this alien invasion might result in the appearance of those insects, but there wonʼt be an elite class alien in the whole picture. Wonʼt this mean I can control my bad luck to a certain extent?ʼ

Nathan fell into deep thought. He had never considered such a thing. It was easy for people to think that their fate couldnʼt be changed. But they could see it in a different way.

Normally, Nathan would face a problem and that problem worsened because something even worse happened. He had to see it this way instead of specifically observing everything in detail.

Instead of an elite class alien, he should see it as a worse problem. And because it had been generalized as a worse problem, there was no telling what kind of ʼworse problemʼ would come to him.

In this case, he successfully changed his fate. He just wondered why he didnʼt think about this possibility before.

The moment this thought appeared, he summoned Mae. He grabbed her shoulders and asked in a rushed tone, ”Mae, how do you see fate or destiny or luck?”

”W-What?” Maeʼs body froze. She was bewildered by such enthusiasm from Nathan.

Anubis smiled wryly since he was the one causing that problem. ”I told him to change his bad luck to something else. Of course, he would still experience that bad luck, but that bad luck is moving from one thing to another.”

”…” Mae looked at Anubis for a few seconds, as though her gaze contained a different meaning, before falling into deep thought. Nathan asked it so suddenly that she didnʼt know how to explain.

She didnʼt really want to disappoint Nathan, so she worded it carefully, not knowing whether the explanation could help Nathan or not.

”In that case, I will explain about five things: Fate, Destiny, Luck, Karma, and Divination.”

Nathan nodded furiously.

”First is Fate. They are typically referred to as a preordained course of events. It implies that certain events are likely to occur regardless of individual actions.

”For example, in Masterʼs case, itʼs your fate to face a challenge. No matter what you do, you wonʼt be able to change that outcome. You wonʼt be able to destroy or remove that challenge.

”Destiny refers to a set of predetermined events where individuals have a degree of contribution.

”Letʼs see. If Master chooses to do something like this, you are bound to experience something because of your choice. If you choose to advance through the mountain, youʼre bound to face a problem this mountain has.

”The third one is Luck. Itʼs basically ʼchance.ʼ It can influence destiny and fate, but at the same time, it canʼt interfere with it.

”You are lucky to have women that can fight alongside you to face the destined challenge, but if you are fated to die here, no matter how you do it, you wonʼt be able to change it. However, you might be lucky that youʼre not fated to die here. Itʼs a bit complex, but thatʼs essentially how it works.

”As for Karma, itʼs basically the Law of Cause and Effect. Every action has a consequence. Your intention and action are the ones shaping your reality.

”If you do bad things, you will accumulate bad karma. Maybe when you die, you will face retribution. Or maybe itʼll do something in the realm of the living, such as revenge.

”Thatʼs why Taoists and Immortals are doing their best to accumulate good karma. Even if that karma is not repaid in the realm of the living, itʼs usually paid in the underworld. You can become a mountain god, a wandering god, or even be reborn in a better condition.

”Regarding Divination, itʼs a hard complex. You are taking a peek at a personʼs karma and luck. At the same time, you canʼt really see heavenʼs secret.

”In the past, when using my divination, I was able to sense the karma of a person. That karma looks like a thread that connects one person to another. Bad karma, good karma… everything.

”I saw the kingʼs bad karma with his children, so I warned him about it. Of course, karma can be cut as well. Itʼs not as simple as killing a person.

”If the king killed his son, his sonʼs karma would be placed in the kingʼs body. The people who know about this murder would also create another karma with the king, whether it was in the form of fear or a simple witness. It could lead to the minister exposing his deeds, or something along those lines, which would be the conclusion of a karma.”
