Chapter 858 - 858 Opening the Letter

858 Opening the Letter

“Um…”

Ji Qingyan and Guo Ningyue were stunned when they saw Wang Cuiping enter.

Wang Cuiping was also stunned.

Seeing that Wang Cuiping was still holding the spatula in her hand, Ji Qingyan stood nervously behind Guo Ningyue, afraid that she would use the spatula to slap her.

!!
“What are you guys doing?” Wang Cuiping asked.

“When we were looking for something here, we saw this quilt and then this letter,” Guo Ningyue said generously.

“The two of you really know how to dig things out. You can even discover this,” Wang Cuiping said with a smile. Clearly, she was not angry.

Ji Qingyan felt a little more at ease.

It was as Guo Ningyue had said.

They were all ordinary people and did not care so much about these rules.

To Wang Cuiping, this was not so important so as to warrant a scolding.

Naturally, she would not make a big fuss. Moreover, one of them was her daughter-in-law.

However, this was an earth-shattering event in a rich family.

However, it was nothing to Wang Cuiping.

“Mom, don’t talk about this for now,” Guo Ningyue said in shock. “Do you know how valuable the quilt wrapped around my brother back then is?”

“How much is this thing worth?” Wang Cuiping asked.

“When I married your father, your grandmother gave me a pair of embroidered quilts with two large carp embroidered on them. It was much better than this.”

“Yeah, but it’s already outdated, right? It can’t keep up with modern trends, right?” Guo Ningyue said.

“My sister-in-law just said that the thing on it is called Su embroidery. It’s different from your embroidery. It’s worth at least a million yuan!”

“Oh my god, is this for real? Is it so valuable?”

Obviously, Wang Cuiping was also shocked. “I’ve never treated it as anything good. I just wanted to hold that letter as a memento or something.”

“That’s why I discussed it with my sister-in-law just now. My brother’s family must have been a rich family back then.”

“Of course.” Wang Cuiping said,

“A million yuan now is almost as much as a hundred thousand yuan twenty years ago. To think that a child’s blanket was so valuable. Even rich families nowadays might not do such a thing.”

Ji Qingyan thought for a moment. Even with her and Lin Yi’s wealth, they might not use such an expensive blanket when they had children in the future.

Moreover, this was more than 20 years ago.

How rich was Lin Yi’s family?

“Mom, let’s not talk about this.” Guo Ningyue held the yellowed envelope. “You’ve hidden this letter for more than 20 years, but you’ve never opened it?”

“There’s still mud on it. I’ve never opened it.”

“Well, aren’t you curious?”

“I was really curious when I was young,” Wang Cuiping said.

“But this letter was left for your brother by his mother. It’s not right for me to read it, so I didn’t dare to touch it. As time passed, I stopped thinking about it.”

“But my brother is already in his twenties. Why don’t you give it to him?”

“I’ve been so busy every day that I barely have time to breathe. How can I have the time to care about this?” Wang Cuiping said.

“But my initial idea was to give this letter to your brother when he started a family and found a career. I totally forgot about it. I didn’t expect you two to find it first.”

“Tsk, tsk, tsk…”

Guo Ningyue said, “Mom, the situation between my brother and my sister-in-law is set in stone. We’ll be a family sooner or later. Why don’t we open it now?”

“That won’t do. Your brother isn’t here. How can we open it without him?”

“Isn’t my sister-in-law here? She’ll probably get married to him soon. It’s fine to take a look now.”

“That won’t do,” Wang Cuiping said. “If you really want to see it, just wait for your brother to come back and read it together.”

“My brother was sent here when he was a few months old. Moreover, he’s so cunning. Do you think he’d be willing to read it?” Guo Ningyue bluffed.

“I think we should take a look first. If there’s nothing in it, we’ll hand it to my brother so that he won’t be agitated.”

“That’s true.” Wang Cuiping nodded. “I remember that in the past, when I told your brother about his parents, he gave me such a big reaction. Alright, I’ve made a decision. The three of us will open this letter.”

“Hehe, that’s work for me.”

Wang Cuiping had a carefree personality and strong traditional mindset.

‘Even if I do something wrong, I’m his mother. How could he lose his temper at me?’

“But don’t open this letter. Let your sister-in-law open it,” Wang Cuiping said.

“I think it’s fine. After all, they’re from the same family,” Guo Ningyue said. “If my sister-in-law destroys it, it’ll be no different from my brother destroying it.”

“I wouldn’t dare,” said Ji Qingyan. “Aren’t you guys trying to make me the scapegoat?”

“Aren’t you and my brother from the same family? How are we scapegoating you?”

“It’s not mine, after all.”

“Aren’t you acting like an outsider by saying this? Since you’re married to my brother, we’re family. What’s his is yours, so there’s no problem at all if you open this letter.”

“I agree with that,” Wang Cuiping said. “Unless you don’t want to marry my son.”

The mother and daughter duo backed her into a corner.

“No, that’s not it.”

“In that case, let’s open it now.”

“What if Lin Yi gets angry?”

“How dare he?!” Wang Cuiping said, “If he dares to get angry, I will break his legs!”

Ji Qingyan had no choice but to accept her fate.

“Little Yue, go and find a pair of scissors. I want to keep the wax on it.”

“Just wait. It’s in the drawer.”

Guo Ningyue turned around and took out the scissors. After this, Ji Qingyan carefully cut open the cover.

She took out the slightly yellowed letter as if she had just opened a treasure.

Even a rough person like Wang Cuiping felt a trace of nervousness.

No one knew what was recorded inside.

What kind of message would a mother leave for her child?

She carefully opened the letter.

Inside were lines of elegant calligraphy. They were written very neatly. If one did not have some foundation in the skill, they would definitely not be able to write such beautiful words.

Dear Ms. Wang Cuiping:

“Hello.

“I was an incompetent mother. Due to some factors that I cannot change, I cannot give him a complete family. I cannot give him all my love. This is a dereliction of duty, a lifelong debt I owe to him.

“After asking around, I found out about Blue Sky Welfare Institute and now have a deep understanding of your situation. Hence, I’ve decided to let you raise the child.

“Here, I implore you to raise him up. There’s no need for him to be rich. As long as he can be peaceful and happy like an ordinary person, marry, and have children, it’ll be good enough for me.

“He’s a descendant of the Lin family. Therefore, I firmly believe that he’s not a bad person.

“He will be loyal and filial to his foster parents for the rest of his life. When you and your partner are over sixty years old, he will definitely take care of you.

“If one day, the child asks about us, just say that we died in an accident.

“As I was in a hurry, I don’t have much money on me. Please forgive me.

“Sincerely, Qin.”
