Chapter 483 - 265 Hughes’ Story_2
Chapter 483: Chapter 265 Hughes’ Story_2And then came the second round, this time the minister won, and the president still approached with a grin on his face.

Everyone in the room was looking in that direction, but as the minister stared at the president’s barely distant face, a face with a hint of corpulence, he hesitated, ”President, about that, I feel I can’t...”

”No, you can,” the president withdrew his smile, looking at the minister in front of him, ”It’s just a game, or are you saying you don’t want to give me face?”

”No, no, no, Mr. President, I just...” the minister’s sweat started to fall, well aware that he couldn’t go through with the hit, but if he didn’t, he would likely have trouble escaping today’s situation, so he thought of a way, ”May I transfer this opportunity to another employee? It’s more fun if everyone plays together, isn’t it?”

His reasoning was far-fetched and even carried an undertone of affront to the president, but upon hearing these words, the president’s face lit up with pleasant surprise, he replied, ”Sure, everyone can play together, you can appoint someone to hit.”

Phew—

The minister sighed in relief inwardly, his gamble had paid off.

The president was more interested in toying with weaker employees.

The performance of that tenured employee had been excellent, but it was not what the president wanted to see.

”Liu Sheng, yes, you come and play with the president,” the minister unhesitatingly picked a newly hired employee.

He was slightly stunned, because he had been singled out by the minister.

”Come on up, Liu Sheng, this is your chance for a close encounter with the president!” Annoyance was apparent on the minister’s face.

So he just walked up in a daze.

”You’re Liu Sheng, right?” the president asked with a smile, leaning in closely, ”Since Minister Lin has requested a change of players, you come and play with me. Knock off the hit he won first.”

”Ah...” He was somewhat puzzled by the sudden turn of events, ”Mr. President, no, I can’t hit you, you...”

”You can,” the president suddenly turned expressionless, stood up straight, took out a cigar from his pocket and lit it, his head lowered, ”If I say you can, then you can. It’s a convivial day for a gathering, don’t dampen our spirits.”

”So...” He looked back at his own minister, but in that instant, he was shocked to find his minister’s face had turned into a sinister hyena’s visage, displaying a mocking, wicked grin.

Your breath caught with sudden fear, then turned to look at your colleagues.

They had faces like rabbits, with flattery or submission painted on them, each sitting upright in their place, silent.

Looking at the president again, he had transformed into a fat pig-headed figure, with gleaming fangs, drool dripping from a gaping maw, and the cigar now a bloody rabbit’s leg.

Suddenly, the president burst into rage again, slapping repeatedly, accompanied by his roaring voice: ”I said! Obey! Obey! Like this! Slap me! Don’t you understand?!”

The pig-headed mouth opened wide, exuding a foul stench as the abyssal maw attacked him.

—

Hughes opened his eyes, gasping for breath, feeling his sweat-soaked back.

His clothes and the sheets were soaked with cold sweat.

He stood up from the bed, trying to calm the fright from his nightmare.

Since that incident, he would often have such nightmares, in which he was not Hughes, but his deceased friend Liu Sheng.

Reliving everything Liu Sheng had experienced over and over, inescapable, like a drowning man.

Despair, like water, irresistible, infiltrating through every crack.

He did not know the time, because his room was pitch-black.

The curtains tightly drawn, the door firmly shut, not letting in a streak of light; and without light, it was impossible to see what Hughes was doing at that moment.

Besides the absence of light, there wasn’t the slightest sound.

Silence, darkness.

An absolute oppression enveloped the room.

Hughes’s gaze wandered in the darkness of the room, seemingly in search of something, but just aimlessly looking for a destination.

There were definitely cameras of those people in his own room, not just cameras, but countless recorders and other surveillance equipment.

The only thing to be thankful for was the absence of a surveillance device on his watch. The privacy of his watch was protected by Main Brain; no one could bypass this protection.

It was almost eight o’clock, almost time to start work.

Although he hadn’t glanced at the time, his heart was like a biological clock, its perpetually circling hands ceaselessly reminding him.

It was almost time to start work.

His body started to tremble slightly.

But, there’s always something more punctual than a biological clock.

”Ding-ling-ling-ling—” The frantic, high-pitched ring of the phone resounded like a death knell in the cramped room.

It had arrived.

Hughes didn’t hesitate, immediately tapping his watch and choosing to answer the call.

The contact read simply ”Company.”

”Good morning, Hughes Dylan,” a vibrant, charismatic voice came through from the other end, ”It is now eight in the morning, and you have been ’Sleep’ for seven hours. Now it’s time to work. For a bright future and for the company’s prosperity, work hard, Hughes Dylan!”
