Chapter 477: Chapter 263: Alright, Gary has evolved too.”Hmm?” Jiang Shu slightly furrowed his brow when he heard what Gary had said, ”You... knew about this before?”

This wasn’t what he had anticipated; he thought it was Black Kler who had informed Gary about his possession of the ”Calm” trait.

During the blockade period in the Thirteen District war, Gary couldn’t leave the Thirteen District.

If he hadn’t gone to the Thirteen District, naturally, nothing would have happened. However, the moment he showed up in the Thirteen District, Black Kler would inevitably reveal this information to Gary, and it was very likely that Jiang Shu would have been attacked by a delirious Gary.

That was Black Kler’s fallback plan, to prevent Jiang Shu from suddenly appearing in the Thirteen District during the war and interfering with his plans.

As for whether Gary would leave the Thirteen District after the war, that was beyond Black Kler’s consideration at the time since he never thought he’d live to see that day.

If you grind the same instance too much, it tends to be a bit irresponsible.

”Yes, I knew from Wolf before Yaxi told me,” Gary recalled the scene, ”When you got involved in the Seal Garcia murder case, Wolf, in an effort to prove that you wouldn’t panic over the murder case, mentioned the fact that you possessed the ’Calm’ trait.”

He smiled again, his teeth still clenched tight, ”Unfortunately, Yaxi didn’t know about this, so when he deliberately mentioned the ’Calm’ trait, his intentions became very clear.”

Jiang Shu said nothing, just looked at the terrifying man before him.

”I will not be someone’s tool, never,” Gary seemed to have come to a realization. This sentence seemed to be an explanation of his thoughts to Jiang Shu, as well as a reinvigoration of his spirit, cementing his beliefs, ”I will only do what I believe is right.”

He opened those documents, which contained videos of criminals before their death, ”Aside from those fugitives, I’ve also dealt with some people who committed evil leveraging their power, and interestingly, before their deaths, they all uttered similar words.”

Gary clicked play, and the video compilation started. The people in the videos stared at the camera with hostility or anger, uttering words either suppressively or hysterically. But what was common was that all their words and actions before dying were based on fear of Gary.

”He’s just a farmer from the Production Sequence! There are plenty of them; how could his life be worth mine?!”

”Are you serious? I’m part of the Research Sequence! My societal value far surpasses his!”

”She’s merely a lowlife, destined to be trampled underfoot all her life. I can pay for her life! I can ensure her family lives without worries for the rest of their lives...”

A series of absurd words played out, and Gary couldn’t help shaking his head. He turned off the video, looking back at Jiang Shu and saying, ”Ridiculous, isn’t it? They all implied their lives were more precious, and the victims’ lives were worthless, trying to convince me with their profession, societal value, and such...”

He sighed deeply, ”But it was useless, I still helped the victims kill them. You once told me that prejudice against professions is actually due to a lack of educational level, and clearly, these people were not well-educated.”

”Um,” Jiang Shu nodded, although it appeared that only those who were well-educated would have such discrimination, he didn’t think he was wrong.

Moral education is also part of education, the most important part, but in the Lonely City, it didn’t seem to be emphasized enough.

And this might also be due to the Lonely City Character Card system, where the route of advancement for people was strictly limited, which in some ways made professional prejudice even more prevalent.

”So thank you, Mr. Jiang. After that, I realized this point, so I won’t think that I can just take your trait at will,” Gary continued, his half-mechanical, half-flesh face expressionless, but his eyes held firmness and sincerity, ”I won’t harm you. If I took your trait for my own freedom, then I would be no different from those scum.”

”Let’s hope so.” Jiang Shu also nodded, his gaze shifting toward the exit, ”It seems you’re quite clear about what you want to do.”

”So, Mr. Jiang, do you approve of my actions?” Gary keenly sensed the implications in Jiang Shu’s tone.

”I’ve always said the same thing, I neither approve nor disapprove,” Jiang Shu stuck to his usual line, but this time he chose to elaborate a bit more, ”To those victims, you are the light that saved them, you’ve done something no one else has achieved, and that is a form of justice; but from the broad perspective of the Lonely City, you are indeed trampling on judicial proceedings. However, that’s not key, since the perpetrators have already trampled on it themselves.”

At this point, Jiang Shu actually smiled, ”If vigilantism could make those perpetrators restrain themselves, maybe it’s a good thing.”

When Gary heard these words, something deep inside him stirred, ”Yaxi also said something similar.”

”Yaxi... Yaxi,” Jiang Shu suddenly laughed wryly, ”Is that the Yaxi who founded ’Wildfire’ in the First District?”
