Chapter 454 - 254 Wildfire Rages!
Chapter 454: Chapter 254 Wildfire Rages!Maine was well aware that he had to shake off the two tailing agents within three minutes, otherwise, he might miss today’s routine meeting.

But...

He tilted his head and looked back through the glass of the display window, where the two plainclothes officers, taking cover in the crowd, were slowly closing in on him.

Like two gray wolves hunting in coordination on the prairie, relying on the tall grass taller than a man to conceal their tracks, inching closer to their prey, only revealing a hint of themselves when there was no wind to betray their movement.

Maine’s heart didn’t panic; he was a native of this land and had no reason to be cornered by these two plainclothes officers.

The crowd, the chaotic crowd, should have been an aid to him.

At this moment, his mind was exceptionally clear, and he quickly recalled what the leader of the Envoy had said at the routine meeting.

When encountering a tracker, don’t panic. They’re often plainclothes officers who are prohibited from using violence or coercion while on tracking assignments.

So, all he needed to do was to break free, and the simplest way to do that was to create chaos.

This was District F, the last thing it lacked was chaos.

So he suddenly turned around and pointed at the two plainclothes officers, shouting, ”They are Police! They want to force us to cancel the Brad Act!”

With one sentence, two key words immediately stirred up waves among the crowd.

In District F, a brick could hit three or four people with criminal records. Upon hearing the word ”Police,” it was as if their DNA was triggered, and they would instantly panic and scatter.

The ”Brad Act” was a recently proposed bill by Brad, the leader of the new group ”Wildfire,” designed to reduce fixed working hours for low-income earners, increase hourly wages, and demand the Three Major Groups to halve the current taxes for those below the median Social income.

This was, of course, an impossibility, but such bills were meant to be heavily negotiated, starting with an unprecedented proposal to capture public attention, followed by sending representatives to negotiate with the legislative bodies after gaining support.

After prolonged political wrangling, these bills were often so amended as to be unrecognizable, but this didn’t matter much since the majority of the people didn’t understand what those amended laws actually amounted to.

The corporate side still defended its interests, people’s representatives gained political status, and the masses believed they had won yet another victory.

Maine felt somewhat sad about this, but he was also powerless to change any of it.

At this moment, due to the influence of the words ”officer” and ”Brad Act,” the crowd became slightly agitated and chaotic, forming a human wall in front of the two plainclothes officers as if driven by some force.

And Maine quickly left the place, walking into a dirty alley where the walls were covered with thick layers of graffiti, clearly the cumulative ”collaboration” of dozens of graffiti artists over time.

He looked back and saw the crowd, like a surging wave, encircling the two plainclothes officers.

This was District F, where the Police station had little credibility. Not just the Police, the entire Social Sequence was without credibility here.

People always believed various rumors, disparaging the Social Sequence from all angles, as one of the ways in which the masses of District F sought collective identity.

Maine lowered his eyes; he had long seen through all of this, but he was powerless to change any of it.

No, this wasn’t something that couldn’t be changed.

Suddenly, he thought of the face that lingered in his mind.

”Wildfire” could change all this, and Mr. Yaxi could change all this!

With this thought, a fervor surged within him; he believed in Mr. Yaxi’s ability, that Mr. Yaxi could lead them, the Wildfire Group, to ultimate victory.

However, he was one of the first to follow Mr. Yaxi, one of the students who had taken Mr. Yaxi’s Social science course back in the day, and also one of the veterans of the ”Wildfire” organization.

So, of course, he knew that the current leader of ”Wildfire” was the second generation Yaxi, but the one he genuinely wanted to follow was the first generation Yaxi.

The second generation Yaxi remained talented, but he understood they could not compare to the first.

Maine was always anticipating the return of the first generation Yaxi, to take back control of ”Wildfire.”

According to the current leader, the second generation Yaxi, it could be as short as a few months or as long as several years, but the first generation Yaxi would return.

Therefore, they needed to be patient and accumulate strength in the shadows.

Maine would only refer to the leader as the Envoy, not as Mr. Yaxi, because in his heart, Mr. Yaxi would always be that one person.

”Hmm?” Maine’s gaze fell on a piece of graffiti on the wall in front of him, a hexagram, drawn in one stroke, with a calm and serene eye in the center.

What was this?

A bit of perplexity arose in Maine’s heart; this graffiti mark wasn’t there the last time he came by, it seemed to have been drawn in the past few days.

What was strange wasn’t the graffiti itself, but the oddly familiar feeling it gave him, as if he had seen it somewhere before.

Never mind, he shouldn’t worry about it now, time was running short.

He glanced at the time; it was about a five-minute walk from here to the secret meeting hall, and he only had four minutes left.
