The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 462 - 257: A New Storm has Emerged!
Chapter 462: Chapter 257: A New Storm has Emerged!”Huh?” Su Xiaoou was startled upon hearing such a request, and she instinctively asked back, ”A show? What kind of show?”

”Magic-related programs, the theme is probably to impart some basic concepts of magic, anti-superstition and the like, but I am not very clear about the specific process. We need to discuss this with the TV station in a couple of days,” Jiang Shu said.

Su Xiaoou also seemed to recall something, her expression somewhat stiff. Having only studied for about half a year, she had learned a lot, but the thought of performing at Lonely City TV station, before so many television viewers...

As a street kid, she couldn’t help but feel timid.

Street performances were casual, and even if a performance flopped, one could just disappear into the crowd; but performing in a program...

”Don’t worry, the format of the show hasn’t been decided yet. It’s not certain whether it will be recorded or live,” Jiang Shu seemed to notice her apprehension, but he was well aware that all magicians had to go through such performances.

Stage performances were an obstacle that couldn’t be avoided, and undeniably, a perfect stage magic performance experience was extremely beneficial for a novice magician.

”Ah, so what then?” Su Xiaoou was somewhat puzzled by what Jiang Shu meant.

Jiang Shu continued, ”Whether it’s live or recorded, you have to give one hundred percent focus and cannot allow any mistakes that shouldn’t occur.”

”I understand,” Su Xiaoou replied with a serious expression. Jiang Shu had always had high expectations of her in magic, and she held herself to high standards as well.

The apprenticeship system in Lonely City was just like this - there was no compulsory education here. If one couldn’t afford the tuition fees of Basic College, children could only be sent to various trades to serve as apprentices.

The ”various trades” here certainly didn’t include all industries. The industries here were mostly part of the Entertainment Series, the Production Series, and a small amount of the Social Series, mostly professions with strong substitutability.

Another path was to participate in the selection of the Three Major Groups, or other special companies, between the ages of twelve and fifteen. After passing physical fitness tests, intelligence tests, and family background checks, children who passed the selection could enter related companies to train in the Combat Sequence reserves.

During this period, if nothing unexpected happened, the reserves of the Combat Sequence would awaken their Character Cards at the age of eighteen.

And they would then fight for their companies until they retired due to age and could no longer participate in combat.

Nowadays, those who retire can still receive a veterans’ monthly salary, which was a lot better than in the past.

Back then, although the pay was generous while serving in the Combat Sequence, one couldn’t do much once retired.

It was precisely because of this apprenticeship system that teachers had great power over the life and death of their apprentices.

Whether to teach, what to teach, how much to teach - that was all up to the teacher.

So naturally, Su Xiaoou had great respect for Jiang Shu.

Although she often couldn’t find Jiang Shu, undoubtedly, he was imparting his true knowledge to her.

And now, magic was considered the most valuable knowledge in Lonely City.

The intentional difficulties at the first meeting were simply because she didn’t want to get too tangled up with her teacher.

At that time, she just wanted to kill Jabba Clark herself, who had violated her sister Ruan. Getting too close to Jiang Shu would have affected his life.

Getting close to her would bring misfortune.

With this thought, her gaze gradually grew firmer.

What she could do now was to learn magic well, hone her performance skills, and be better poised to repay Jiang Shu in the future.

”I understand, I will work hard,” Su Xiaoou nodded solemnly, her demeanor resolute, indicating she wouldn’t rest until her performance was perfect.

”There’s no need for that,” Jiang Shu shrugged nonchalantly and smiled easily, ”You don’t have to be so tense. Have you forgotten what I told you?”

”Hmm?” Su Xiaoou was taken aback, recalling the magic performance techniques Jiang Shu had shared with her, which she had carefully noted down, but now...

Which one was Jiang Shu referring to?

”The most important thing for a magician is to stay calm and confident,” Jiang Shu continued, ”You need to relax and show the demeanor of a Great Magician. Trust me, the audience can feel what’s in your heart.”

”I get it,” Su Xiaoou immediately remembered what Jiang Shu had discussed with her.

The audience could easily be fooled by other factors. For example, a well-known Great Magician sitting at your table performing magic face-to-face with you is a completely different concept.

Even if it was the same magic, for the latter, you would be very critical, but for the former, most would be overawed by the presence.

Aura, this might sound mystical, but it’s really important for magicians.

”And besides, even if you fail, there’s no need to worry. Many magic acts only have a chance of succeeding. If you fail, just switch to another one and continue performing. As long as the show isn’t over, the audience won’t know what you were planning to do,” Jiang Shu kept speaking, ”Don’t let those Muggles guess what you’re doing. Taking the initiative is very important.”

”Indeed, I can’t let the Muggles see what I’m about to do.” At this realization, Su Xiaoou felt much more at ease. She glanced at the time and saw it was time to practice her technique, so she said goodbye to Jiang Shu, ”Then teacher, I’m off to practice magic. Goodbye.”
