The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 466 - 258: Only Your Intent to Kill Can Kill Her - Part 2
Chapter 466: Chapter 258: Only Your Intent to Kill Can Kill Her - Part 2Even guesses aren’t made without groundwork; there are always examples to aid judgment.

”Entry Value.” Wolf explained, ”Mental will is related to entry values, but the relationship isn’t fixed. Based on the researcher’s speculation, mental will might only be related to certain entries and not absolutely linked to the overall entry value.”

He paused for a moment, ”And the method to confirm this is... torture.”

”Hmm?” Jiang Shu was startled.

”Torturing those prosthetic body modifiers at the boundary value, using the duration of their endurance as a standard to categorize the strength of their mental will, has led to such speculations,” Wolf said, his expression revealing neither joy nor sorrow, ”Strong entry, strong mental will, a large load of prosthetic bodies.”

After he had explained the background context, he then elaborated on what he meant before, ”That’s why, if the mental will hasn’t reached a certain strength, mounting a prosthetic body like Gary’s will highly likely result in Cyber Syndrome.”

”And that’s exactly why I focus on training. It’s only through comprehensive training and enhancing oneself can one become stronger.” Wolf even flexed his muscles as he spoke, chuckling, ”Rather than blindly pursuing powerful prosthetic bodies to enhance combat abilities, it’s better to honestly improve one’s quality. Without sufficient personal quality, having a prosthetic body is useless.”

”I understand, but where did you hear these conclusions?” Jiang Shu suddenly thought of someone, someone he was relatively familiar with.

Ryan, the scapegoat ’fox’ in the bank heist.

It seemed he was quite knowledgeable about prosthetic bodies and Cyber Syndrome.

a sort of mad scientist.

”It’s been a while, it used to be just an urban legend-like rumor, but last time the police station had sorted out that fake fox Ryan’s experiment records. He conducted experiments, and although there weren’t many samples, they were quite convincing,” Wolf seemed to understand Jiang Shu’s thoughts and answered directly.

”I got it.” Jiang Shu nodded to indicate his understanding, yet he did not ask Wolf for these experiment records.

The fox’s side definitely had the records, not just the experiment logs, but also the Cyber Syndrome hypnotic therapies that Ryan had been researching.

And according to the fox, he had successfully experimented before, but the result wasn’t the cure for Cyber mental illnesses.

Instead, it was the personality loss of those with Cyber mental illnesses, turning them into half-mechanical beings without autonomous thought.

Of course, at least in Jiang Shu’s view, this tool-like dead state was much preferable to allowing those with Cyber Syndrome to violently attack the citizens of Lonely City.

It was fair to say that not many of those suffering from Cyber mental illnesses were normal; the condition was like addictive drugs, known to be dangerous yet still pursued obstinately by extremists.

Gary’s case of losing half his body in an accident could still garner sympathy, but those who willingly dismember their limbs for power and consequentially turn into cases of Cyber mental illnesses didn’t deserve pity.

”When do we leave?” Jiang Shu followed up Wolf’s words, as he too needed to make some preparations.

”The sooner, the better, I’m actually here to get you,” Wolf said earnestly, ”There’s a pursuit operation against the Rift tomorrow, and we’ve already prepared the bait.”

”Bait? Fishing law enforcement?” Jiang Shu was slightly stunned.

Wolf nodded, ”No choice, Tang is more anxious than us.”

And Jiang Shu understood what Wolf meant. Within the systems of the Lonely City Police Department, except for the trade of addictive drugs, other forms of fishing law enforcement weren’t allowed.

This time, the capture of Rift Gary seemed urgent for Police Chief Tang Hexun to the extent that he was willing to breach police rules.

It was indeed characteristic of Police Chief Tang Hexun.

”Since that’s the case... alright, I’ll go with you tonight.” Jiang Shu pondered briefly before agreeing, he indeed had matters to attend to, but they were generally related to dealings with the TV station and some issues regarding the establishment of media, entertainment, and publishing companies.

These tasks actually didn’t require his personal presence; the matters of the television station could be entrusted to Sister Mei, he only needed to provide his requirements; the establishment of companies could be handled by Tablet Spirits.

Compared to that, the matters concerning Gary seemed more urgent, and he also wanted to know a lot of things.

For instance.

How did Mr. Yaxi, Black Kler, know he possessed the ”Calm” entry?

—

”Drip-drip—”

The cold droplet of water again fell on the girl’s head, and at that instant, she awoke with a start, rising from the chair and looking around at the surrounding darkness with panic in her eyes.

Why was she here?

The air was saturated with the stench of decay, with only the sound of the water drops hitting the puddles in the boundless gloom, beyond that, all her senses— hearing, vision, and smell—seemed as if they were stripped away, unable to perceive any useful information.

”Splash.” Her feet stepped into a shallow pool of water, splashing and causing mud to cling to her socks, and the dirty water seeped in, becoming a sticky gunk between her toes.

She felt a sincere chill.

But unlike the kidnap scenes she had seen in films and TV shows, her freedom wasn’t compromised, she had merely fainted on the chair, a loose rope tied around her waist to prevent her from falling off the chair while unconscious.
