The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 472 - 261 Unheard - Name 5
Chapter 472: Chapter 261 Unheard Chapter Name 5”But I still came.” Rift responded with a hoarse voice and walked toward Evon, each step echoing heavily.

He was almost entirely made of metal parts now. Although his figure didn’t seem bulky or obese, his weight had reached a terrifying five hundred kilograms.

”So, what do you need this time?” Evon didn’t show any annoyance at his rudeness. He just smiled casually and continued, ”Weapons funding, mechanical maintenance, or user information? Just say it, and I will do my best to satisfy you.”

Evon casually listed a few things Rift needed, then he nodded slightly toward Rift, ”But this time is different from before. I need you to do something for me.”

From the moment he had discovered Rift a month ago, Evon Garcia had been trying to win him over. However, Evon was smart. He didn’t propose a deal directly; all initial assistance was free of charge.

Such assistance was something Rift couldn’t refuse. He needed ammunition funding, maintenance for his mechanical body, and enough information to ensure his direction in hunting criminals was correct.

Alone, he wouldn’t be able to handle the fugitives while simultaneously evading pursuit from the Thirteen District Police Station.

Now, after having helped Rift for a month and spent nearly a million, Evon finally made his first request.

He often did this, picking a suitable target and then binding them to his warship with benefits.

Up till now, he had never come out at a loss; the gains always outweighed the costs.

And this series of assistance followed by negotiation was what he called...

Assistance negotiation.

”I won’t help you kill people,” Rift said, shaking his head slightly. ”If you want me to kill someone from a rival gang, I won’t do it.”

He wouldn’t abandon his principles just because of Evon’s help over the past month. That was something absolutely intolerable.

Moreover, Evon hadn’t stated that this help was a transaction before assisting him, so he didn’t need to adhere to any kind of professional ethics.

”Rift,” this name would become a beam of light in the night of Lonely City and the Thirteen District. It was still too early; he wouldn’t let this name bear the dark history of being a ”gangster’s fierce dog.”

At this moment, Evon seemed to sense the tension in the air. The Rift standing before him seemed to exhibit some resistance, so he casually shifted the topic to another direction: ”This can wait. Be assured, I won’t make you assassinate the leader of an opposing force. That would be foolish. What I want to know is, why are you here at this place, at this time?”

Evon looked back at Rift, realizing he was being too hasty. It was Rift who sought him out, so why was he the one making demands?

It could have waited for Rift to state his needs before negotiating.

Boundaries could always be gradually adjusted.

It seemed the arrival of Police Chief Wolf and the Magician had clouded his judgment.

He needed to clear his mind and regain his ability to think.

Thinking that, Evon slowly took a deep breath in and then slowly exhaled.

In the time it took to take a deep breath, he regained his clarity. He also understood why Rift appeared here.

”There’s something wrong with the police station’s staff arrangement.” Rift stated bluntly, having a deep understanding of the Thirteen District Police Station. From a few simple anonymous phone calls and police response speeds late at night, he had realized that tonight’s staff arrangement was different from usual.

He had often seen such situations when he was working there before.

This was because Tang Hexun had secretly shuffled personnel. Tonight, a base number of officers had gone off-duty early. They needed to conserve energy.

This meant Tang Hexun was planning a big move tomorrow. He was strategizing an operation.

And Rift cared deeply about who the target of this operation was. Police Chief Tang Hexun would not fight an unprepared battle; his actions were always well-thought-out, and he was extremely capable...

In short, Rift sensed an ominous meaning. He began to suspect that he was the target of this operation.

He was confident in his instincts, so he had come here, knowing that Evon had his informants spread throughout the Thirteen District. Perhaps Evon knew something.

”What?” Evon was slightly taken aback. He didn’t understand what the problem with the police station’s staff arrangement meant, but upon hearing the word ”police station,” he basically understood that this was the news he had just received.

”There’s going to be a big operation at the police station tomorrow, but I don’t know their target,” Rift laid out the information he had deduced. ”I know you have informants there. I want to know if they have discovered anything.”

”This...” Evon hesitated only for a brief moment before smiling again.

As long as Rift needed something from him, he could easily leverage that. Even if it took a long time.

Thus, the corners of his mouth lifted gently, and the words slipped out, ”Indeed, I have received intelligence, but obviously, our friendship cannot offset the value of this information. I need to make a deal...”
