The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 473 - 261 Untitled 5_2
Chapter 473: Chapter 261 Untitled 5_2Evon’s voice suddenly stopped as he stood there, staring ahead because the rift in front of him had already disappeared.

Only the open window remained, with the cold night wind howling through it.

He didn’t even finish saying the word ”transaction” before the rift was gone.

Gone...

A sense of inexplicable feeling suddenly emerged in the depths of his heart.

Why did it run away?

Didn’t your mother ever tell you that it’s very impolite to slip away when someone is in the middle of speaking?

More importantly, Evon couldn’t think of any reason for the rift’s behavior.

The consequence of not understanding...

Was likely that this time’s aid interaction was a loss.

And a big loss at that...

Evon stood there, staring at the empty bathroom, feeling as if there was something missing from his heart.

Why would the rift exhibit such abnormal behavior?

Had it been bought over by the Taigong Dynasty already?

He forced himself to continue pondering, but the more he thought about it, the uglier his expression became.

It was time to find someone else for help.

Immediately, another face appeared in his mind.

The Magician, Jiang Shu.

——

Inside the office of the Thirteen District Police Station, Tang Hexun laid out all the information he had on the simulated light screen on the table in front of him,

For the best cooperation, he naturally would not hide anything from Police Chief Wolf and Jiang Shu.

Moreover, he trusted both Wolf and Jiang Shu very much.

Wolf required no explanation, a good friend for many years, and after many collaborations, he was unquestionably trustworthy.

As for Jiang Shu...

The deeds from Fifth District had primarily spread, and he already had a certain police background (Crime Consultant); wasn’t such a person worthy of trust?

”We’ve discovered that Gary has a secret help channel that opens at random times to random individuals every day, all victims can use this channel to seek his aid,” continued Tang Hexun, the Police Chief, ”And after Gary personally verifies it, he will strike the offenders with thunderous revenge.”

”Hmm, so we’re going to use this channel to lure the snake out of the hole?” Jiang Shu picked up the conversation, not making any judgments about Gary’s actions, because that wasn’t important; what mattered was when they could bring Gary back.

”Yes.” Tang Hexun nodded and looked at Jiang Shu, ”The Social Sequence has its regulations, the police station can’t treat non-addictive drug crimes with ’entrapment,’ so I hope this operation is completely confidential.”

Jiang Shu understood the situation and accepted Tang Hexun’s request, ”I will keep it confidential.”

Tang Hexun then said, ”We now have a reliable channel, and tomorrow we will arrange for that ’victim’ to make contact with Gary...”

”Wait, the ’victim’ you’ve arranged, is he reliable? What if Gary sees through the ruse?” Wolf suddenly interrupted.

Of course, Gary wasn’t a fool; he wouldn’t be easily deceived. If it was a simple, fabricated case, Gary might not take the bait at all.

Then there would be no subsequent capture.

”He’s a real victim.” Tang Hexun’s expression darkened, ”The only fortunate thing is, we found him earlier than Gary, he hasn’t had the chance to seek Gary’s help yet.”

”Is our only hope resting on an elusive Rift now?” Wolf sighed, but he didn’t say much else.

It was an unavoidable situation.

The police station wasn’t God, Tang Hexun wasn’t God, and the officers weren’t gods; they couldn’t right every wrong.

In fact, it was quite an accomplishment to overturn even one case that had deep connections behind it.

Jiang Shu also furrowed his brow and asked Tang Hexun, ”So have you determined the case details of the victims? Should you help overturn their cases after catching Gary?”

”I’ve got that covered,” Tang Hexun immediately responded, ”I will use all of my resources to overturn that victim’s case, and I can guarantee it with my role as Police Chief.”

”That’s good,” Jiang Shu nodded, ”We can’t let the victims lose heart, and if this matter isn’t handled properly, it could lead to major trouble.”

If the case couldn’t be overturned, what would the powerful perpetrators do after learning about this?

The answer was obvious.

”I understand,” Tang Hexun replied, and he went on to discuss his subsequent arrangements, ”After our informant makes further contact with Gary, we will be able to quickly locate him through his network position. As soon as Gary makes contact, I have three or four methods of capture at my disposal. With enough luck, we might be able to take him down tomorrow.”

”Let’s hope so,” Wolf echoed, looking at the Simulated Light Screen on the table, which was filled with all-around records, reflecting the persistent intelligence gathering work of Tang Hexun.

For this matter, the effort Tang Hexun had invested was naturally far more than what those few simple words could summarize.

Moreover, Jiang Shu noticed a detail: Tang Hexun never once referred to the ”Rift” using that term, continuing to use the name ”Gary” instead.

It wasn’t clear if he was used to it or if there was another reason.

”Take this intelligence with you, and you may study it a bit tonight, but don’t stay up too late. We need both of you to maintain ample physical and mental energy for tomorrow’s operation,” Tang Hexun gestured towards the Simulated Light Screen on the table. The information documents swiftly shrank into beams of light and entered the wristwatches of Wolf and Jiang Shu, who both pressed their wristwatches several times to receive the files from Tang Hexun.

After the brief meeting, Wolf and Jiang Shu left the Thirteen District Police Station.

The streets near the police station weren’t bustling with dance halls, so standing at the station’s entrance and looking up at the night sky, the two could still see the hazy moonlight through the clouds.

”Where are we staying tonight?” Jiang Shu looked at the moon for a while before turning to Wolf, ”Shouldn’t the Thirteen District Police Station provide us with a place to stay?”

”No, the situation in the Thirteen District isn’t good lately, and the Thirteen District Police Station’s operational funds are running low. Moreover, this cooperation is being carried out secretly,” the Police Chief Wolf shrugged, his expression somewhat helpless.

”Alright then,” Jiang Shu sighed as well.

”And it’s precisely because of that, all our expenses here in the Thirteen District are covered by Tang, who is reimbursing us from his own little treasury,” Wolf laughed, but it seemed he remembered something, and his expression darkened, ”Wait a second, aren’t you the Great Magician? Lacking this bit of reimbursement funds? Are you bullying an honest person here?”

”Mind your words, Police Chief Wolf,” Jiang Shu was equally serious, ”Right now, my identity is a Crime Consultant with a salary of only four thousand Feather Coins a month. You need to distinguish between my identities.”

As usual, the two naturally fell into their habit of teasing each other. A lot had happened recently, but their way of interacting hadn’t changed.

”The Crime Consultant’s job is still due to your identity as a Magician, isn’t it? Why distinguish them? Is it because you’re heartlessly wealthy?” Wolf didn’t hesitate to retort back.

However, suddenly, Jiang Shu seemed to sense something, looking up at the night sky without responding to Wolf’s last remark.

A figure with wings on its back was swiftly weaving through the clouds in the night, and in just a few moments, the being, cloaked in dark red armor and half-mechanized, had reached Jiang Shu’s side.

Rift, Gary.

Jiang Shu recognized the newcomer in an instant, but he made no move, appearing as if he had been frightened into immobility.

So within a few short seconds, he was caught by Gary by the shoulders and lifted into the sky.

”Mr. Jiang, if you believe me, don’t struggle. The performance of my left arm prosthetic is poor, and its grip isn’t very strong. If you struggle, it might come off,” Rift’s voice reached Jiang Shu’s ear, sounding completely different than before, but the tone was still as respectful as in the past, which left Jiang Shu with a sense of temporal disorientation.

He didn’t reply, instead waiting quietly for Gary’s next move.

”I think, now, you’re perhaps the only one who might understand me.”

Gary spoke slowly, his tone still calm.
