Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

“Whoosh!”

The tentacle lunged toward April, and she reacted as well.

“There’s a giant Sea Person underwater!”

In the Pure Abyss, aside from the eight major races—the Naga, Sirens, Sea Demons, mermaids, fish people, Sea People, humans, and sea beasts—every other aquatic creature was known as a Sea Person!

Sea People weren’t intelligent, and weren’t much different from fish, shrimp, and most other marine life on Earth.

Many of the creatures in the Banquet God’s recipes that Lin Yu had seen lived in the sea of clouds high in the sky, and they were all Sea People. Those in the Banquet God’s Divine Kingdom, however, had usually been carefully selected for their exceptional flavor.

By comparison, the ones still living in the sea were even more terrifying.

But regardless…

The Sea People in this world were undeniably dangerous.

Take the pitch-black tentacle that had burst out of the water. It looked almost as thick as a factory chimney.

At that size, it was more than big enough to be called a “Sea Monster”!

Lin Yu studied it.

“Hmm… The arrangement of its suckers, and the length and thickness of its tentacles, don’t look anything like Hannah’s or Ka’s. I wonder if it’s a distant relative, or something completely unrelated.”

“And its tentacle is about as thick as the hole. I don’t know if this thing killed the crew, but it definitely sank the ship.”

Lin Yu considered the possibilities.

Meanwhile…

April wasn’t nearly as relaxed as he was, not with that tentacle bearing down on her!

She retreated at top speed, pulling an item shaped like a megaphone from her hand at the same time.

“Back!”

April raised the megaphone and shouted. A soundless wave seemed to form a barrier, temporarily stopping the tentacle as it curled toward her.

But in the next instant…

“Smack!”

The tentacle slammed down hard, shattering the invisible sound barrier in an instant.

That seemingly soft tentacle now lunged at April even faster!

At the same time, Lin Yu sensed an invisible ripple of “mental” energy.

A power that could seize the mind radiated from the tentacle, slowing people’s thoughts ever so slightly.

Of course…

For a mental-power expert like Lin Yu, the moment he recognized the attack, he was naturally immune to it.

After all, Old Zheng’s “mental power” system was many levels above that of a monster acting on instinct. Purely projecting mental power alone was enough to counter any monster that relied on attacks of this “mental” sort.

But April was another matter.

The tentacle’s sudden acceleration had already left her struggling to react. Now she was also suffering a negative effect she hadn’t even noticed.

So by the time April came to her senses, the tentacle had already wrapped around her and lifted her high into the air.

The light was faint, but Lin Yu could still tell…

April was in great pain.

She struggled desperately to break free of the tentacle’s grasp, but couldn’t manage it at all.

April was already quite capable among the Second Tier, and considering that she had only just advanced to the Second Tier, managing to hold off the tentacle for even a moment showed she had a solid foundation.

But…

This tentacle was still beyond her capabilities.

With its immense strength and that invisible “mental interference,” Lin Yu had no doubt…

April would die here if she had to rely on her own abilities.

But that wasn’t April’s fault. His joining the dungeon had invisibly raised its difficulty far too much!

In any case…

“Whoever lured it here is responsible for dealing with it.”

Lin Yu decided to act.

Even setting aside his sense of responsibility and the script’s extra requirements, even if he followed “Yayu’s” way of thinking, he would definitely save April.

Being selfish and ruthless didn’t mean she wouldn’t help others. On the contrary, if there was enough to gain from helping someone, she’d be more eager to act than anyone else.

Especially when it came to a selfish person with ambition!

Of course…

Lin Yu still had no idea how to deal with such a huge Sea Person tentacle.

Fortunately, he had an “expert” with him.

“Hannah!”

“Ribbit, Director, I’m here! Huh? We’re already in the Pure Abyss!”

Hearing the little octopus’s cheerful voice, Lin Yu reached up and patted her where she’d appeared atop his head, nestled in his messy hair. Then he asked, “What is that tentacle?”

Hannah took a look, then answered, “Ribbit, that’s a Black-Ink Twin-Headed Octopus. It’s perfect for sashimi… Its ink sac can also be used to marinate meat, or you could even make sausage casings from it. It’s good in soup, too. All in all, it’s a very high-quality ingredient.”

“One of my cousins, Cha, has a breeding ground in the Central Sea. Among the many Sea People he raises, there are giant Black-Ink Twin-Headed Octopuses.”

Hearing Hannah, Lin Yu had more or less expected the answer, but he still couldn’t help feeling a little unsettled.

“An octopus saying another kind of octopus tastes good as sashimi is a huge blow to my worldview.”

It gave him the strange feeling of watching Goofy and Pluto.

Hannah spoke again. “Ribbit, Director… Don’t humans eat the meat of mammals, too? Even if they’re both shaped like octopuses, there’s a huge difference between the Sea Beast race and the Sea People. Especially our kind, who are favored by the gods and don’t really take part in the conflicts of the Pure Abyss anymore. We’re completely different from these ingredients.”

“Ribbit, ribbit! If I had to compare it to your world, Director, the difference isn’t like that between humans and other mammals… It’s more like fruit that happens to grow in a roughly human shape!”

As Hannah spoke, Lin Yu nodded. “I understand… Anyway, what are its weaknesses? What’s the best way to deal with it?”

Although Yayu’s current persona was extremely violent, Lin Yu still intended to set a relative limit on her power. At the very least, he didn’t want it to be too outrageous.

The image Lin Yu wanted to present to April, and have her pass on to the Marauders and even the entire player community, was this: Yayu could take down a giant Sea Monster thanks in part to her formidable strength and stats, but more importantly, she understood the Pure Abyss to some extent and had excellent combat instincts.

Hannah thought for a moment, then said, “Hmm, Uncle Ka and Cousin Cha both told me about this. This kind of octopus has very tough meat, and it has two heads, so once it gets big, it’s difficult to kill it in an instant. That’s why it’s best to attack the eyes on the inner sides. Its two heads have four eyes in total, and each eye has a very delicate nerve structure behind it. A normal creature’s eyeballs are obviously a weak point, and a heavy blow can blind it. But this octopus has a complicated nervous system because it has to maintain two heads, especially on the inner sides where the heads connect. If the nerves behind the two eyes closest to the connection are damaged, it’s easy to paralyze the entire octopus!”
