Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

”Knock, knock!”

Just as Lin Yu finished extracting the Script, two knocks sounded at the door.

Lin Yu walked to the doorway and opened the room door, finding Shen Bingmiao standing there, yawning.

”Ah, hah, I’m exhausted.”

Seeing Shen Bingmiao like this, Lin Yu was quite curious.

”Senior, can a life form like yours even get tired? Aren’t you a digital life form?”

Hearing Lin Yu’s question, Shen Bingmiao rolled her eyes. ”Stop talking nonsense. I’m not a digital life form, I’m a cyber ghost. I have a soul, alright?”

She slipped into Lin Yu’s room, then added, ”Server overload, traffic depletion... Even though our life forms are different, I have my own way of getting tired. Even a person made of iron gets metal fatigue.”

Lin Yu watched Shen Bingmiao sprawled out limply across the chair and nodded. ”I see. So what’s the reason for your exhaustion?”

Shen Bingmiao raised a hand. ”Check the forum yourself.”

Lin Yu was a bit surprised.

”The forum?”

But he still pulled out his phone and opened the forum.

Then Lin Yu discovered...

The posts on the forum today were unexpectedly numerous.

”Explosive! Order and the Night Watchmen took down nine of the Psychological Society’s city strongholds overnight!”

”All dead! The Psychological Society is wiped out!”

”Our Order is too damn awesome, what the hell is going on?!”

”When are they going to deal with the Marauders?”

Reading the forum posts, Lin Yu was stunned.

He suddenly recalled what Rengu had said on the Sixth Island of the Misty Islands, about ”greater interests.”

So this was what they had been waiting for!

Lin Yu looked at Shen Bingmiao in shock. ”What’s going on?”

”Of course it’s because Order made a decision after they had grasped the Psychological Society’s movements. That Professor guy is really sneaky,” Shen Bingmiao said casually, analyzing the situation. ”He’d actually long since uncovered the secret of the Psychological Society’s ’mental concealment’ at each of their strongholds. This time, Lacan and two S-ranks went to the Misty Islands, the remaining S-ranker is absent, and the second-generation Freud is currently in the Prison Mountain Realm... Both of the Psychological Society’s Fourth Tiers aren’t in the real world. Among the Third Tier’s top combat power, only Council members Wundt, Jung, and Adler remain... Coordinating with the Night Watchmen’s assault, of course they could be taken down at will.”

”Aside from Rengu who went to the Misty Islands to stall people, six Regional Directors each led their Inspectors in raiding the major cities within their jurisdictions. Once the three were located, Tengshe and the Wine God separately made their moves and found Adler and Jung. The battle results were three A-ranks killed and Bandura’s Psyche Recorder destroyed. They also forced out Adler’s resurrection armor, and Jung had an arm torn off and his Exclusive Item blown apart.”

”As for Order’s side... there were almost zero casualties.”

”Of course, any Fourth Tier acting in reality definitely has to pay a price,” Shen Bingmiao sighed. ”That’s also why I’m so tired. I did my best to minimize the cost for them after they acted. Otherwise, the next time they enter the Death Game’s dungeon, they’d have to bear far too much ’malice.’”

Lin Yu let out a breath.

”Order really is formidable. This organization’s mobilization capability and depths genuinely surpass other organizations by a whole dimension.”

Lin Yu said this with emotion.

At the same time, he understood what Li Hua had been doing earlier. The guy hadn’t replied to messages last night, probably because he truly had been caught up in an epic battle with no hands to spare.

He didn’t know how much effort Li Hua had put in. If he had been a firsthand participant in those top-level battles, then he could ask him directly for more detailed information later.

Shen Bingmiao was well-connected, but Lin Yu guessed that she probably hadn’t been on-site.

As for whether Li Hua needed to ”keep things secret”... Lin Yu figured that since news was already flying all over the forum, Order’s attitude was probably that they were willing to publicize this matter.

Still, before that, he needed to get all the information out of his senior, so Lin Yu asked again, ”But I thought your stance was neutral, leaning toward Order... Now it seems you’d even directly side with Order?”

Shen Bingmiao curled her lip. ”Generally speaking, I don’t directly interfere with other Players’ affairs, unless it’s a particularly important situation... What the Psychological Society has done is a bit ’over the line.’”

”Over the line?”

Lin Yu asked in return.

”The second-generation Freud has a screw loose. Originally, although I didn’t agree with the Psychological Society’s approach, it wasn’t enough to warrant specifically targeting them... At least in the limited time available, by pressuring existing powerful Players and allowing more experts to emerge, the method may be cruel, but viewed purely coldly from a god’s-eye perspective, it’s like blasting a factory to protect the environment... It truly isn’t completely useless.”

”They’re just a bit extreme.”

”But the second-generation Freud is very actively pushing for an increase in the total number of Players... The bigger the fish, the more bones there are. I don’t want this ’Final Trial’ to end up like an apocalypse descending!”

As Shen Bingmiao spoke, Lin Yu knew that Old Zheng had definitely heard these words, yet he wasn’t in a hurry to refute.

”So that’s how it is...”

”Alright, anyway I need to rest. My ’consumption’ is too great. I won’t be attending today’s performance. You’re in charge of leading the drama club. Go for it, my dear ’ace.’”

Shen Bingmiao peacefully closed her eyes.

Lin Yu sighed.

”So that’s how it is.”

To prepare for the performance, he really did need to head out now.

He left the room with Old Zheng. After departing, he then spoke up, ”So... Old Zheng, when you founded the Psychological Society, you already knew about the ’Final Trial’?”

”No, that was something I only gradually gathered intelligence on after reaching Third Tier and using the Map privilege often enough. This game has appeared before, and there seems to exist some kind of time-limited ’final stage.’ By then, the Psychological Society had long since been founded,” Old Zheng sighed. ”At first I just felt... if we wanted to seek a final solution, a way for one among all the Players to be able to contend with and interfere with the Death Game itself, we needed to use this game to produce one or several people powerful enough to touch the realm of gods. And this might even be the very ’purpose’ of this game’s existence.”

”And those who joined in the beginning, basically all agreed with my thinking. Most of them also believed that this game must be hiding this path.”

Hearing this, Lin Yu nodded silently, then asked, ”Then... there’s someone I’ve particularly wanted to ask about.”

”I know who you mean. She really did join in the earliest batch,” Old Zheng sighed. ”However, her ideas... count as the ’other faction’ within the organization.”
