Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

After saying goodbye to High Mountain and Fu Luo, Lin Yu set off with the drama club for a new city the very next day.

Heading north the whole way, the trip went smoothly. The next two performances basically ran into no problems at all, and both were smash hits.

The entire drama club was brimming with joy.

Because Order and the Psychological Society had just pulled off something big, and although they seemed ready to immediately set their sights on the Marauders, Lin Yu didn’t get word of this plan until he arrived in Ji Province on Monday.

He had just reached Shicheng, the provincial capital of Ji Province, when Good Night sent him a message. And it was, rare as could be, work-related.

[Good Night: Director, my dear Assistant Team Leader. The higher-ups handed down a new job, but it’s optional. They told me to consult you for your opinion.]

[Good Night: The next dungeon needs a strong Second-Tier to snipe two Marauders heading out to collect specific materials... The difficulty isn’t high, and the other side should be Second-Tier too, but it’s probably some kind of ”declaration of war” type of thing. The location should be Pure Abyss.]

Looking at Good Night’s message, Lin Yu thought it over and declined.

[Director: I’m not familiar with Pure Abyss at all. This is something better left to other people in the organization.]

[Director: If it’s awkward for you to refuse directly, I’ll ask Li Hua. He got in touch with me earlier and mentioned they might need me soon to deal with the Marauders. If I need time off, I can go to him.]

After Lin Yu finished his reply, Good Night quickly responded again.

[Good Night: It’s fine, I’ve got that much authority. Besides, I can just give Li Hua a heads-up.]

[Good Night: Anyway, the higher-ups were just asking for an opinion.]

[Good Night: [Shared Video]]

[Director: ?]

[Director: How did you go from talking about work one second to sending me a dancing video the next?]

[Good Night: Shit, weren’t we already done talking?!]

Lin Yu stared at Good Night, who had freed himself from work mode in a single second, and shut the chat window in exasperation.

Sometimes he really envied Team Leader Good Night’s sense of ease.

Both were team leaders, but High Mountain’s style was way more upright than Good Night’s!

Of course, Lin Yu’s refusal to Good Night wasn’t just because he wasn’t familiar with Pure Abyss.

In fact, it was the exact opposite...

Lin Yu’s next dungeon was also already decided: Pure Abyss.

The reason he didn’t agree to Good Night was a conflict of timing!

And also...

Judging from Good Night’s request.

”Maybe the one Order is trying to target is me.”

Lin Yu sighed, opened the Cyber Ghost’s Electronic Coffin, and switched to Heavenly Artisan’s phone.

Inside were his chat records with Fish.

After Lin Yu drew the script, he’d started using Heavenly Artisan’s identity again to pop into the Marauders’ internal Group Chat a few times, looking to find an entry point for his new identity.

And although Heavenly Artisan hadn’t shown his face even once during this period, thanks to the Director’s earlier rise to fame and Bollo’s growing reputation, he’d become more and more mysterious and unfathomable.

After the Land of Certain Death, the Marauders had witnessed the Director defeat the Designer, and quite a few members inside the Marauders had begun sighing over how solid Heavenly Artisan’s strength really was.

This time, after the Sixth Island mission in the Misty Islands ended... who knew what kind of misunderstanding that Nineteen had about Fu Luo, but the final result was that he mentioned Bollo as being more troublesome to deal with than expected. Although only First-Tier, he was very likely Order’s secret weapon, deliberately suppressing his strength and Rank to deal with certain specific scenarios.

And with that...

Heavenly Artisan’s stock rose even higher!

And Fish, who already had some impression of Heavenly Artisan, and even a bit of fondness, naturally approved of this person even more.

On Friday night, the Marauders posted an announcement internally.

”Next Tuesday’s dungeon needs two Second-Tiers to go to Pure Abyss and collect Mermaid Tears. Reward: any one item under 500,000 in value.”

”Requires passing screening and review.”

This request was posted by Pluto, a high-level member of the Marauders.

Setting aside the fact that the ”reward” was already generous enough, just the chance to get acquainted with a high-level member like Pluto was enough to get hearts racing.

So, Lin Yu naturally, upon seeing this message, sent Fish a private message!

[Heavenly Artisan: Big Sis Fish, I’d like to ask about this post.]

[Fish: You interested? I remember you’re Second-Tier too!]

[Heavenly Artisan: I really don’t know anything about Pure Abyss, but I know someone who is a Second-Tier that understands Pure Abyss very well. They’re not a member of our organization yet, but they’ve shown strong interest in it.]

[Fish: Oh? Not joined yet? Are they reliable?]

[Heavenly Artisan: I’m not sure, but judging by their style, they definitely can’t be a mole for any proper organization. Order and the Night Watchmen, even if they planted a mole, wouldn’t make them that ruthless and heartless.]

[Heavenly Artisan: Even by the Marauders’ standards, that person is pretty extreme!]

[Fish: Oh ho... Then why haven’t they joined earlier?]

[Heavenly Artisan: I actually asked that. They said... they can’t stand starting from the bottom. So if they can’t join and immediately be high-level, above everyone else, they’d rather stay free and unbothered.]

[Fish: What an ambitious guy. I like it!]

[Fish: You’ve seen how strong a top-notch Second-Tier should be, so if even you think they’re strong, there’s no problem with their strength.]

[Fish: I’ll ask Pluto. If Pluto has no objections, let your friend come take the assessment.]

[Heavenly Artisan: Then thank you for your trust, Sis Fish! Haha!]

[Fish: What’s there to thank me for? It’s nothing. But are you two close?]

[Fish: Your friend is taking the job, so why are you so happy?]

[Heavenly Artisan: Just ordinary friends, but... I’ll get a cut from that person, a commission.]

[Heavenly Artisan: Besides, if that person really joins the organization and rises to a position, won’t my status rise along with them?]

[Fish: Hahahahaha, that ”no profit, no early rise” personality of yours really suits our organization.]

[Fish: And I don’t dislike your frankness either. Let me look forward to what your friend will achieve.]

[Fish: Pluto has agreed. Monday night, have that person come to Yanjing. Once he arrives, contact me and I’ll test his mettle.]

[Fish: Oh right, what’s that person’s code name?]

[Heavenly Artisan: Code name? It’s ”Yayu.”]

[Fish: Oh oh.]

[Fish: ...]

[Fish: I don’t know it, can’t type it, got pinyin?]

[Heavenly Artisan: yayu. It’s a bit obscure, seems to be a monster from the Classic of Mountains and Seas.]

[Fish: Damn, a divine beast? Then he should join the Night Watchmen!]

[Heavenly Artisan: Just the opposite, this one’s a fierce beast. Legend says it ate people everywhere and then was shot dead by Houyi with a single arrow.]

[Fish: Didn’t Houyi shoot the suns?]

[Heavenly Artisan: He shot a few villainous beasts along the way too.]

[Fish: Then this name is way too unlucky, why pick such an unlucky name!]

[Heavenly Artisan: I asked the same thing... At first, that person wanted names like Hundun, Qiongqi, Taotie, those famous fierce beasts, then found they were all registered, and in the end could only find one with low fame and obscure characters.]

[Fish: [Thumbs up] Now that’s living.]
