The expedition did not stop.

By sunrise, the Crimson Highlands were already several miles behind them.

Yet the mountain remained visible.

A dark silhouette against the morning sky.

Smoke rose from its peaks.

Occasionally, the earth trembled beneath the soldiers’ feet.

Nobody needed to be told that whatever had happened beneath the mountain was still happening.

The Imperial Expedition Corps continued west.

Their priority was simple.

Get the civilians away from the danger zone.

By midmorning, the main force stopped beside a river.

The soldiers began setting up a temporary rest area.

Kael dismounted.

His fifty soldiers immediately began checking the wounded and repairing equipment.

The rescued villagers were given food and water.

For a short time...

Everything seemed peaceful.

Then the same noble officer approached.

He stopped several feet from Kael.

”Prince Kael.”

Kael looked up.

”What?”

”We need to discuss your actions.”

Darius immediately glanced over.

Walter sighed.

”Here we go.”

The officer ignored him.

”You interfered with an Imperial military operation.”

Kael stared at him.

”I prevented your soldiers from attacking a group of creatures that were already trying to escape.”

”You endangered the expedition.”

”No.”

Kael stood.

”You nearly started a battle inside an underground chamber filled with civilians.”

The officer’s expression hardened.

”You continue defending those creatures.”

Kael looked toward the Ironhorns resting on the opposite side of the river.

”They helped us evacuate the prisoners.”

”They are monsters.”

”They’re intelligent.”

”They killed Imperial soldiers.”

”And Imperial soldiers killed theirs.”

The officer stepped closer.

”You’re making excuses for them.”

Kael’s eyes narrowed.

”No.”

”I’m trying to understand the situation before deciding who deserves to die.”

Silence.

Several nearby soldiers stopped working to listen.

The officer lowered his voice.

”Your sympathy will become a weakness.”

Kael didn’t move.

”And your prejudice already has.”

The officer’s face turned red.

Darius stepped forward.

”Commander.”

Kael raised his hand.

”Enough.”

He looked directly at the officer.

”We’re on the same expedition.”

”We have the same objective.”

”If you want to argue with me, do it after everyone gets home alive.”

The officer stared at him.

Then turned.

”This isn’t finished.”

Kael watched him leave.

Walter shook his head.

”He really doesn’t like us.”

Darius sighed.

”It’s more than that.”

Kael nodded.

”He doesn’t like what we’re becoming.”

Later that afternoon...

Kael called his fifty soldiers together.

They formed five groups around him.

He studied their faces.

They were tired.

Some had injuries.

Some had fought for the first time.

Others had been forced to work beside people who had spent their entire lives believing they were inferior.

Kael looked at them.

”You all saw what happened.”

Nobody spoke.

”Today, we fought beside people the Empire considers monsters.”

Several soldiers glanced toward the Ironhorns.

Kael continued.

”Tomorrow, we may fight beside someone else.”

”Maybe humans.”

”Maybe monsters.”

”Maybe another race.”

”What matters is whether they stand with us.”

Darius nodded.

Kael’s voice became firmer.

”You don’t have to like everyone.”

”But if someone fights beside you...”

”You protect them.”

The soldiers straightened.

”Yes, Commander.”

That night, the expedition camp remained unusually quiet.

Kael left the main camp.

He walked toward a small clearing near the river.

His sword hung at his side.

He needed to think.

The ancient war.

The seal.

The creatures.

The demon.

The mysterious prisoner.

And the egg.

Too many questions.

Not enough answers.

Kael sat beneath a tree.

He closed his eyes.

Then began training.

Solo Training: Night Frost Step

Ice spread across the ground.

Kael took a breath.

Night Aura appeared around his legs.

He moved.

WHOOSH!

His body slid across the ice.

He turned sharply.

The Night Aura accelerated him sideways.

Kael planted one foot.

Ice rose beneath him.

He launched upward.

Light gathered around his body.

He twisted in midair.

Then landed.

He immediately lost balance.

THUD!

Kael fell onto his back.

He stared at the sky.

”...Too much.”

The system appeared.

Night Frost Step

Mastery: 7%

Current Issues:

Directional instability: excessive mana consumption Poor landing control

Kael sat up.

”At least it’s improving.”

He stood.

Again.

He repeated the technique.

Once.

Twice.

Ten times.

Twenty.

Each attempt became smoother.

He wasn’t trying to become stronger overnight.

He was learning how to use what he already possessed.

Swordsmanship

After his movement training...

Kael drew his sword.

He practiced footwork.

One step.

Strike.

Turn.

Strike.

Low slash.

Elbow.

Reverse grip.

Thrust.

He repeated the sequence until his arms became heavy.

Then he changed it.

He stopped fighting like someone relying entirely on supernatural abilities.

His swordsmanship needed to stand on its own.

If his mana disappeared...

He still needed to fight.

Kael suddenly imagined the demon from beneath the mountain.

Its speed.

It’s timing.

Its ability to read his attacks.

He adjusted his stance.

Then attacked an imaginary opponent.

Slash.

Block.

Counter.

Step.

Strike.

Again.

His movements became sharper.

More deliberate.

Less wasteful.

Finally...

Kael held out his hand.

A small amount of blood emerged.

It floated before him.

He shaped it into a thin blade.

Then a needle.

Then a thread.

He separated the blood into five pieces.

Each moved independently.

One circled his head.

Two remained beside his shoulders.

Two floated behind him.

Kael closed his eyes.

He controlled all five.

Ten seconds.

Twenty.

Thirty.

His concentration began slipping.

One needle fell.

Kael opened his eyes.

”Again.”

He tried again.

This time...

He lasted a full minute.

The system appeared.

Blood Manipulation

Control improved.

Current independent constructs:

Potential:

Unknown

Kael looked at the five floating pieces.

He could feel the possibilities.

Weapons.

Shields.

Traps.

Projectiles.

But he knew better than to rush.

He dismissed the technique.

”You’re training alone again.”

Kael turned.

Darius stood several feet away.

Kael sheathed his sword.

”You should be resting.”

”So should you.”

Kael smiled slightly.

”Fair.”

Darius walked closer.

”Can I ask you something?”

”Sure.”

”Why don’t you tell the Emperor everything?”

Kael knew exactly what he meant.

”The prisoner.”

”The seal.”

”The demon.”

Darius looked toward the mountains.

”That information could change the entire Empire.”

Kael nodded.

”I know.”

”Then why keep some of it hidden?”

Kael looked down at his hand.

”Because I don’t know enough yet.”

Darius remained silent.

Kael continued.

”If I tell the Emperor that there’s an ancient demon beneath the mountain...”

”He’ll mobilize the army.”

”Thousands of soldiers will go there.”

”And if I’m wrong?”

Darius understood.

”They could make it worse.”

”Exactly.”

Darius looked at Kael.

”You trust yourself more than the Imperial scholars?”

”No.”

Kael shook his head.

”I trust what I saw.”

”There’s a difference.”

Kael returned to his tent.

The mysterious egg sat inside its protective case.

He picked it up.

For a moment...

Nothing happened.

Then—

Thump.

Kael froze.

The egg pulsed again.

Thump.

A faint silver glow traveled across its shell.

Kael stared at it.

”You reacted when the mountain shook.”

The egg remained still.

”You reacted when I reached the ancient chamber.”

Nothing.

Kael narrowed his eyes.

”But you didn’t react to the demon.”

Silence.

He thought about the ancient carvings.

The dragons.

The war.

The final inheritance.

Then—

Thump.

This time...

The egg reacted to the word that had never been spoken aloud.

Kael whispered:

”...True Dragon.”

The silver light flashed across the shell.

Kael’s eyes widened.

The glow disappeared immediately.

He stared at the egg.

He didn’t touch it.

Didn’t move.

Didn’t breathe for several seconds.

Then the system appeared.

Unknown Egg

Analysis remains incomplete.

New information detected.

Ancient Dragon Energy: Confirmed

Species:

Unavailable

Classification:

Unavailable

Kael slowly sat down.

”So...”

He looked at the egg.

”You really are connected to them.”

The system provided no further answer.

Kael smiled faintly.

”Fine.”

”I’ll figure you out eventually.”

Far across the camp...

The noble officer stood beside several soldiers.

He looked toward Kael’s tent.

One soldier spoke quietly.

”Do you think the prince knows something?”

The officer’s expression darkened.

”Yes.”

”What?”

”I don’t know.”

He looked toward the distant mountains.

”But whatever he found...”

”...he isn’t telling everyone.”

The soldier hesitated.

”What should we do?”

The officer remained silent.

Then he turned away.

”For now?”

”Nothing.”

The next morning...

The expedition would continue west.

The official mission had been successful.

The villages had been evacuated.

The monster migration had been investigated.

The Imperial survivors had been recovered.

But Kael knew the truth.

The expedition hadn’t solved anything.

It had only uncovered something much larger.

Something buried beneath the Empire’s history.

Something connected to demons.

Something connected to the disappearance of the True Dragons.

And now...

Kael carried an unknown egg that had reacted to the name of those ancient creatures.

He looked toward the road.

His hand rested on his sword.

The journey home had begun.

But the answers waiting for him in the Imperial capital...

Might be more dangerous than the mountains he had just left behind.
