The afternoon sun cast long shadows over the capital.

Kael and his companions slowly left the Cor Quarter.

None of them spoke.

The district had answered more questions than dozens of official reports ever could.

People weren’t starving.

They weren’t revolting.

But...

They had accepted that they would never be equal.

That realization bothered Kael more than poverty ever could.

Walter finally broke the silence.

”So...”

”What now?”

Kael folded the city map and slipped it into his coat.

”We continue.”

Walter groaned dramatically.

”We’ve been walking since sunrise.”

Leon smirked.

”You’ve also eaten five times.”

”I get hungry when I’m thinking.”

”You weren’t thinking.”

”I was thinking about food.”

Even Grom let out a laugh.

The Scholar’s District

The group soon entered a quieter part of Aurelia.

Unlike the merchant quarter...

This district was filled with libraries.

Bookstores.

Small academies.

Public lecture halls.

Students carrying stacks of books hurried through the streets.

Mages debated philosophy beside engineers discussing bridge designs.

Knowledge...

Had its own district.

The Imperial Academy stood proudly at its center.

A massive structure of white stone and blue crystal.

Thousands of students studied there every year.

Future generals.

Judges.

Governors.

Royal advisors.

Walter whistled.

”This place is enormous.”

Darius nodded.

”It has produced nearly every great minister in Imperial history.”

Kael stared at the academy.

”Knowledge...”

”This kingdom has plenty of it.”

”The problem isn’t intelligence.”

”It’s where that intelligence is allowed to go.”

An Interesting Conversation

Near the academy gates...

A crowd had gathered.

Curious...

Kael walked closer.

Two professors argued loudly.

”The bridge cannot support that much weight!”

One shouted.

The younger professor shook his head.

”It can.”

”If reinforced with layered steel supports.”

The older professor scoffed.

”Nonsense.”

”That’s impossible.”

”It has never been done.”

Kael smiled.

”Famous last words.”

The younger professor noticed him.

”You there!”

”You’ve been listening.”

”Settle this.”

Walter whispered,

”Don’t...”

Too late.

Kael walked toward the diagram.

He studied it carefully.

It wasn’t the bridge itself that was flawed.

It was the support distribution.

He picked up a piece of chalk.

”May I?”

The professors nodded.

Kael quickly sketched a different support pattern.

Adding diagonal reinforcement beams.

Redistributing the load.

Strengthening the center span.

The crowd fell silent.

The younger professor blinked.

”...I’ve never considered that.”

The older professor leaned closer.

His eyes widened.

”This...”

”This could actually work.”

Kael handed back the chalk.

”It’s only an idea.”

The professors looked at each other.

Then...

Without another word...

They both rushed inside the academy.

Still arguing.

Walter stared.

”...What just happened?”

Kael shrugged.

”I think I accidentally gave them homework.”

The system reacts to Earth Knowledge Integrated

Civil Engineering

Knowledge Archived.

Potential Future Project:

Stone Arch Highway Network

Requirement:

Authority to begin national infrastructure.

”Another one...”

Kael was beginning to understand.

The system wasn’t granting magic.

It was preserving civilization.

The Hidden Talent

As they prepared to leave...

Someone hurried after them.

”Wait!”

A young woman stopped several feet away.

She wore simple academy robes.

Ink stained her fingers.

She looked exhausted.

Yet determined.

She bowed respectfully.

”My apologies.”

”I overheard your explanation.”

Kael smiled.

”I’m glad someone did.”

She laughed nervously.

”My name is...”

Selene Cor Aurelius.

”I belong to a branch family.”

Kael noticed the hesitation before she said, ”Cor.”

”I study engineering.”

She continued.

”But...”

”My family can’t afford another year at the Academy.”

”My scholarship was canceled.”

Walter frowned.

”Why?”

Selene hesitated.

Then answered honestly.

”They said...”

”...priority was given to Main Bloodline students.”

Silence.

Kael looked at her carefully.

”What do you want?”

Her answer came immediately.

”I want to build roads.”

Everyone blinked.

She continued.

”Every province designs them differently.”

”Trade suffers.”

”Villages become isolated.”

”Farmers lose money.”

”If the Empire had one standardized road system...”

She stopped.

Realizing she had become too excited.

”...I’m sorry.”

Kael smiled.

”No.”

”Don’t apologize.”

He looked at the sketches she carried.

They were detailed.

Brilliantly detailed.

Bridges.

Aqueducts.

Road systems.

Water drainage.

City planning.

The system appeared.

Kael’s heartbeat quickened.

”Exactly the kind of person I need.”

Kael’s Vision

He carefully rolled up Selene’s drawings.

”These are excellent.”

Her eyes widened.

”You really think so?”

”I know so.”

Kael looked directly at her.

”One day...”

”I’m going to rebuild this empire.”

”I’ll need people smarter than me.”

People nearby stopped walking.

Listening.

”I don’t care whether someone is Main Bloodline.”

”Branch Bloodline.”

”Commoner.”

”Or another race.”

”If they’re talented...”

”They deserve the opportunity to change the world.”

Selene stood speechless.

No prince had ever said those words publicly.

Kael handed back her blueprints.

”When that day comes...”

”I hope you’ll join me.”

She clutched the papers tightly against her chest.

”I...”

”...I would be honored.”

Darius Speaks

As they continued walking...

Darius finally broke the silence.

”You weren’t recruiting.”

Kael smiled.

”No.”

”I was planting seeds.”

Darius nodded slowly.

”Good.”

”Because great kingdoms...”

”...aren’t built by one man.”

Kael looked toward the busy streets.

”No.”

”They’re built by people who believe in the same future.”

The Emperor’s Chamber

Inside the palace...

Another report arrived.

The Emperor finished reading it before handing it to Chancellor Roland.

Roland’s eyebrows rose.

”He recruited another?”

The Emperor shook his head.

”No.”

”He inspired another.”

There was a difference.

One built armies.

The other built nations.

The System

Late that evening, as Kael returned to his guest residence, the familiar blue window appeared.

First Candidate Identified:

Selene Cor Aurelius—The Future Pillar of Infrastructure

Kael stared at the screen.

Seven Pillars.

Not generals.

Not ministers.

Pillars.

The foundation upon which an empire would stand.

A slow smile spread across his face.

He finally understood what the system wanted.

It wasn’t just building Kael into a great ruler.

It was guiding him toward finding seven extraordinary individuals who, together, could transform an empire.

Outside his window, the lights of Aurelia stretched into the night.

Tomorrow...

He would stand before the Council of Succession.

But tonight...

The future had become just a little clearer.
