The Imperial System: Architect of an Empire

The Council Chamber remained silent.

No one moved.

No one dared to speak while Emperor Augustus Aurelius Asterion stood before the Dragon Throne.

The faint smile on his face had already disappeared.

Once again...

He looked every bit like the ruler who had governed the Empire for over forty years.

His golden eyes swept across every prince and princess.

”You have all spoken.”

”You have all presented your accomplishments.”

”You have all shared your visions.”

He paused.

”Some sought military glory.”

”Some sought political influence.”

”Some sought economic prosperity.”

He slowly folded his hands behind his back.

”Each has value.”

”But today...”

”...I have learned something more important.”

His gaze settled on Kael.

”You reminded this court...”

”...that an empire is built upon its people.”

Kael bowed respectfully.

”Thank you, Father.”

The emperor looked away.

”But...”

”The duty of an emperor...”

”...is not only to inspire.”

”It is to preserve order.”

Several ministers nodded.

The atmosphere changed.

Kael noticed it immediately.

The Emperor’s voice had become colder.

More formal.

The Grand Herald stepped forward carrying an ancient scroll.

Its seal was unlike any Kael had seen before.

A black dragon surrounding a silver tree.

The High Chancellor’s eyes widened.

”...That seal...”

The Archmage frowned.

”I haven’t seen it in decades.”

The emperor nodded.

”This decree has existed since the founding of the empire.”

”It has remained unenforced.”

”Until today.”

The chamber erupted into whispers.

Even Prince Adrian looked confused.

Seraphine’s eyes narrowed.

Elena seemed uneasy.

The emperor raised one hand.

Silence returned instantly.

”Grand Herald.”

”Read it.”

The old herald broke the wax seal.

His voice echoed throughout the chamber.

’By decree of the First Emperor...’

’To preserve the Imperial Line...’

’The descendants of cadet branches shall forever be recorded separately from the Main Bloodline.’ if you first cousin you will have the aurelius last name if you fourt coursin and below you will carry the cor aurelius in you name

The whispers grew louder.

’Henceforth...’

’Every cadet descendant shall bear the Imperial designation...’

The Herald looked toward the Emperor.

The emperor nodded.

’Cor.’

Silence.

Then...

The room exploded.

”What?!”

”Impossible!”

”They’re bringing that law back?”

”It was abandoned centuries ago!”

Even ministers who rarely showed emotion stood in disbelief.

The Herald continued reading.

’The designation Cor shall appear in all Imperial records.’

’Military appointments.’

’Land ownership.’

’Official registries.’

’Marriage documents.’

’Titles.’

Examples were read aloud.

”Luc Aurelius...”

”...shall henceforth be known as...”

Luc Cor Aurelius.

”Lyon Aurelius...”

”...shall henceforth be known as...”

Lyon, Cor Aurelius.

”Emilia Aurelius...”

”...shall henceforth be known as...”

Emilia Cor Aurelia.

The list continued.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

Eventually...

Hundreds of thousands of names across the Empire would change.

Different Reactions

Princess Seraphine slowly smiled.

”Finally.”

”Order.”

Several conservative nobles applauded.

One elderly duke laughed.

”Now everyone will know their place.”

Princess Helena stood abruptly.

”Your Majesty.”

”With respect...”

”This will divide the empire.”

The Emperor remained expressionless.

”It may.”

Prince Adrian frowned.

”Our soldiers don’t fight according to bloodlines.”

”They fight beside one another.”

”This could damage morale.”

The Emperor offered no reply.

Marcus slammed a fist onto his podium.

”My lieutenant is from a cadet branch.”

”I’d trust him with my life.”

”So would every man under my command.”

Across the chamber...

Several ministers exchanged nervous glances.

No one understood why the Emperor had suddenly revived a law buried by history.

Kael’s Thoughts

Kael remained silent.

But inside...

His mind raced.

His memories from Earth flooded back.

History.

Empires.

Kingdoms.

Nations.

He remembered reading about societies that legally separated their own people.

Different names.

Different rights.

Different opportunities.

Every time...

The result had been the same.

Division.

Resentment.

Conflict.

Eventually...

War.

The system suddenly appeared.

World Event Detected: The Cor Decree

History has shifted.

Empire Stability:

Declining

Civil Unrest Risk:

11% → 24%

Projected Risk within 10 Years:

78%

Another window appeared.

Future Prediction

Probability of Internal Civil War:

Very High

Primary Cause:

Institutional discrimination.

Kael slowly closed the windows.

No one else could see them.

The Emperor’s Next Announcement

When the chamber finally quieted...

The emperor spoke again.

”This decree...”

”...takes effect immediately.”

Gasps echoed once more.

”No appeals.”

”No exceptions.”

”Not even for the Imperial Family.”

The Grand Herald stepped forward.

”Beginning today...”

”Every lower branch of House Aurelius shall be officially renamed.”

He unrolled another scroll.

”Among them...”

”Luc...”

”...Cor Aurelius.”

The massive doors opened.

Standing outside...

Was Luc.

He had been summoned without explanation.

Confused...

He slowly entered.

He knelt before the throne.

”You summoned me, Your Majesty?”

The emperor looked down at him.

”Rise...”

”...Luc Cor Aurelius.”

Luc froze.

The words hit harder than any sword.

He lowered his head.

”...Yes...”

”...Your Majesty.”

The pride in his voice was gone.

For the first time...

His own emperor had publicly reminded him that he would always stand apart.

Kael watched in silence.

His fists tightened beneath the podium.

Not in anger.

In determination.

He had shaken Lucian’s hand only days ago.

He remembered the hope in the young man’s eyes.

Now...

That hope had been wounded.

A Test Hidden Within the Decree

The Emperor surveyed the chamber.

He saw the smiles.

The outrage.

The fear.

The uncertainty.

Every reaction.

Every expression.

Nothing escaped his notice.

Hidden behind his calm exterior...

He wasn’t simply issuing a law.

He was studying the future rulers of his empire.

Who celebrated division?

Who feared it?

Who would exploit it?

And who...

Would you try to heal it?

The System

A final notification appeared before Kael.

Main Quest Updated The Path of an Emperor

New Objective:

Prevent the Empire from destroying itself.

Difficulty:

SSS

Time Limit:

Unknown.

Kael looked up at the Dragon Throne.

For the first time since arriving in this world...

He understood.

The greatest threat to the Empire...

Wasn’t outside its borders.

It was already sitting inside this very room.

And unless someone changed the future...

The first battle for the Empire...

Would be fought between families.
