The capital never slept.

Even before sunrise, Aurelia’s streets were alive.

Merchants rolled open their stalls.

Smiths reignited their furnaces.

Bakers filled the air with the smell of fresh bread.

Imperial patrols marched through the avenues with disciplined precision.

From the highest palace tower...

It looked like paradise.

From the streets...

Kael was beginning to see something else.

An empire could shine on the surface...

While quietly cracking underneath.

The Black Dragons followed several paces behind.

Walter carried a skewer of grilled meat.

”I still think we’re sightseeing.”

Leon sighed.

”We’re gathering information.”

Walter shrugged.

”...Information tastes better with food.”

Grom chuckled.

Even Darius smiled.

Kael unfolded the small map he had purchased earlier that morning.

It wasn’t an official military map.

It had been drawn by a local merchant.

Markets.

Temples.

Guilds.

Residential districts.

Trade routes.

One section had been circled in charcoal.

The Cor Quarter.

Kael frowned.

He hadn’t asked about it.

A passing fruit vendor noticed.

”Are you planning on going there?”

Kael looked up.

”Is there a problem?”

The old woman hesitated.

”...Depends who you ask.”

The Cor Quarter

The further they walked...

The quieter the streets became.

The marble roads disappeared.

Stone buildings gave way to old brick homes.

Flower gardens became vegetable patches.

Children still played in the streets...

But unlike the palace district...

They stopped playing whenever nobles passed.

They watched.

Carefully.

Quietly.

Walter looked around.

”This place isn’t poor.”

Leon nodded.

”No.”

”It simply hasn’t been cared for.”

The roads were cracked.

Street lamps leaned sideways.

Several public wells had fallen into disrepair.

None of it was disastrous.

But compared to the districts surrounding the Main Bloodline...

The difference was impossible to ignore.

The system appeared.

Imperial Survey

District:

Cor Quarter

Population:

94% Branch Bloodline Families

Infrastructure Rating:

Education Rating:

Military Representation:

D-

Political Representation:

Recommendation:

Investigate.

Kael closed the screen.

”So this is where they live...”

The Schoolmaster

Children’s voices echoed from a nearby building.

Curious...

Kael stepped inside.

Rows of wooden desks filled a simple classroom.

Around thirty children copied letters onto wax tablets.

An elderly teacher stood at the front.

He looked up as the visitors entered.

”...Can I help you?”

Kael bowed politely.

”I’m only observing.”

The teacher studied him.

Then smiled.

”You’re welcome.”

For several minutes...

Kael simply watched.

The children weren’t learning magic.

Or military tactics.

They were learning mathematics.

Reading.

Writing.

History.

One little boy raised his hand.

”Teacher?”

”Yes?”

”Why do we write our names differently than the princes?”

The room became quiet.

The teacher’s smile faded.

He walked over to the child.

Carefully placing a hand on his shoulder.

”Because...”

”Our families come from another branch of the Imperial Tree.”

The child tilted his head.

”Does that make us worse?”

Silence.

The teacher couldn’t answer.

Kael felt his chest tighten.

No child...

Should ever have to ask that question.

Luc’s Home

Outside the school...

A familiar voice called out.

”Prince Kael?”

Luc hurried across the street.

He looked genuinely surprised.

”What are you doing here?”

Kael smiled.

”Learning.”

Luc laughed softly.

”Most princes have never even walked through this district.”

He gestured toward the surrounding neighborhood.

”This is where most of us live.”

”Branch families.”

”Distant cousins.”

”Forgotten relatives.”

”We’re still Aurelius...”

He paused.

”...Just not enough.”

Walter frowned.

”That’s ridiculous.”

Luc shrugged.

”You get used to hearing it.”

As they walked...

People quietly greeted Luc .

Shopkeepers.

Teachers.

Retired soldiers.

Craftsmen.

They weren’t wealthy.

But they knew one another.

The district felt...

Like a community.

A Blacksmith’s Son

Near the end of the street...

A loud argument broke out.

Two young men stood outside a forge.

One wore expensive noble clothing.

The other wore a leather smith’s apron.

”You’ll never join the Imperial Knights.”

The noble laughed.

”Know why?”

The blacksmith’s son remained silent.

”Because your father married into a branch family.”

”You have branch family blood.”

”My family doesn’t.”

The noble stepped closer.

”It doesn’t matter how talented you are.”

”You’ll always stand behind us.”

Before the argument could continue...

Kael stepped between them.

The street immediately fell silent.

The noble recognized him instantly.

”Y-Your Highness.”

Kael looked at him calmly.

”What are your names?”

The noble straightened up.

”Tristan Aurelius.”

The young blacksmith bowed.

”Eric... Aurelius.”

Tristan smirked.

”He forgot the important part.”

He looked at Eric.

”Say it properly.”

Eric lowered his eyes.

”Eric Cor Aurelius.”

Kael noticed it.

Not just the name.

The hesitation.

The shame.

Kael turned to Tristan.

”Tell me.”

”If Eric becomes a better knight than you...”

”Who should command on the battlefield?”

Tristan frowned.

”I...”

Kael continued.

”The stronger soldier?”

”Or the one born into the right family?”

Tristan hesitated.

No answer came.

The surrounding crowd watched in silence.

Kael looked at Eric.

”Do you want to become a knight?”

Eric nodded immediately.

”More than anything.”

”My grandfather died protecting the empire.”

”My father forges armor for the Imperial Army.”

”I just...”

”...want the chance to earn my own place.”

Kael smiled.

”Then don’t let anyone convince you your blood decides your future.”

”You decide your future.”

Those words spread through the crowd like wildfire.

For many...

No prince had ever spoken to them like that.

The Shadow Watches

On the roof of a nearby inn...

The hooded observer lowered his notebook.

”He did it again.”

Another figure appeared beside him.

”The boy keeps creating hope.”

The first observer frowned.

”...Hope is dangerous.”

”For people who’ve lived without it.”

Far away...

Inside the Imperial Palace...

The Emperor received another report.

He read it once.

Then again.

Finally...

He asked only one question.

”Did he visit a noble estate today?”

The Royal Guard answered.

”No, Your Majesty.”

The Emperor folded the report.

”So...”

”He chose the forgotten.”

A faint smile crossed his face.

”Interesting.”

The System

As Kael and his companions left the Cor Quarter...

A golden notification appeared before him.

Hidden Title: Unlocked Voice of the Forgotten

You naturally earn the trust of those ignored by society.

Effects:

Increased reputation among branch families. Increased reputation among commoners. Higher chance of talented individuals voluntarily seeking your banner.

Another notification appeared.

Hidden World Event Progress

The Seeds of Unity

Current Progress:

Great empires are not united in a single day.

They are united one heart at a time.

Kael stared at the words for several moments.

He didn’t fully understand them.

But something told him...

The system wasn’t talking only about the empire.

It was talking about the entire world.

He closed the window and looked toward the distant palace.

In two days...

He would stand before the Council of Succession once again.

But now...

He wouldn’t speak from books.

Or reports.

He would speak for the people whose voices had never reached the Dragon Throne.
