The arena disappeared in a blur.

BOOM!

Kael and the Guardian Champion collided in the center of the chamber.

A shockwave erupted outward.

Stone pillars cracked.

Dust exploded into the air.

Far beyond the barrier...

Walter stumbled backward.

”...What in the world was that?”

The invisible wall separating them shook violently.

Darius immediately grabbed the nearest pillar.

”No ordinary duel creates pressure like this.”

Even Commander Aldric’s normally calm expression hardened.

”...His aura awakened.”

Walter turned.

”You can tell from out here?”

Aldric nodded.

”I’ve only witnessed it once.”

”...Fifty years ago.”

Speed Beyond Sight

Inside the arena...

Kael disappeared.

No—

He accelerated so quickly the human eye could no longer follow.

His night aura wrapped around his legs like dark flames.

Every movement became lighter.

Sharper.

Cleaner.

The champion smiled.

Finally.

The trial had truly begun.

CLANG!

Kael appeared behind him.

His Aura blade slashed across the Champion’s back.

Stone armor shattered.

Before the fragments touched the ground...

The champion spun.

His massive sword carved through empty air.

Kael had already moved.

Left.

Right.

Forward.

Back.

He wasn’t outrunning the Champion.

He was controlling the rhythm of the battle.

Exactly as Achilles had done against larger opponents.

Never meeting strength with strength.

Always attacking where the enemy wasn’t.

Reading the Battlefield

”He’s adapting.”

Kael realized.

The Champion wasn’t repeating attacks anymore.

Every exchange evolved.

Every mistake Kael made...

The Champion remembered.

”So this isn’t just a warrior...”

”He’s teaching me.”

The Champion thrust forward.

Instead of retreating—

Kael stepped inside the attack.

Their shoulders collided.

Kael rotated his hips.

Using the Champion’s own momentum...

He redirected the enormous warrior past him.

For the first time...

The Guardian lost his balance.

”Now!”

Kael whispered.

Blood Arts

Kael bit the inside of his lip.

A single drop of blood rolled onto his fingertips.

He didn’t waste it.

The blood transformed into thin crimson threads.

They shot toward the Champion’s damaged armor.

Not to control him—

The Guardian possessed no living blood to manipulate.

Instead, the threads slipped into the cracks in the armor like razor wire.

Kael pulled.

The cracked breastplate tore open.

The champion’s chest was exposed.

Not flesh.

Crystal.

A glowing blue crystal pulsed where a human heart should have been.

”That’s his core.”

The champion struck with his elbow.

BOOM!

Kael blocked.

The impact still launched him across the arena.

His ribs screamed in pain.

Light Steps

Kael inhaled.

Golden mana gathered beneath his feet.

Rather than creating a flash...

He compressed the light.

Each step became an explosion of acceleration.

To everyone watching—

If anyone could have seen through the barrier—

Kael would’ve appeared to teleport.

One step.

Slash.

Another step.

Slash.

Slide beneath the sword.

Kick off an ice pillar.

Twist in midair.

Reverse grip.

Downward strike.

Every movement flowed into the next.

No hesitation.

No wasted motion.

His body had become one with his sword.

The Champion laughed.

Actually laughed.

A deep, booming laugh.

”Excellent.”

He slammed his sword into the floor.

Dark Aura erupted.

The arena cracked apart.

Massive stone slabs rose from the ground.

The Arena Changes

The battlefield transformed.

Broken pillars became obstacles.

Collapsed platforms forced constant movement.

The Champion wasn’t trying to kill Kael.

He was forcing him to think.

Adapt.

Overcome.

Kael smiled.

”...I understand.”

He no longer chased the Champion.

He used the environment.

Ice covered one fallen pillar.

The champion stepped onto it.

His footing shifted ever so slightly.

Kael was already moving.

A burst of light magic blinded the champion for a heartbeat.

Kael appeared above him.

His Aura blade descended.

CRAAASH!!

The champion blocked.

But the blue crystal beneath the broken armor cracked.

A thin fracture spread across its surface.

For the first time...

The champion staggered.

The Final Lesson

The ancient warrior stepped back.

He planted his sword in the ground.

Instead of attacking...

He looked directly at Kael.

”What...”

”...is the purpose...”

”...of strength?”

Kael kept his guard raised.

His breathing was heavy.

Sweat dripped from his brow.

Night Aura consumed his stamina rapidly.

Still...

He answered.

”To protect.”

The Champion slowly shook his head.

”Too simple.”

Kael frowned.

The Guardian continued.

”A tyrant protects...”

”...what belongs to him.”

”A conqueror protects...”

”...his kingdom.”

”A father protects...”

”...his child.”

”What...”

”...makes a king different?”

The arena fell silent.

Kael thought of Ashfall Village.

Commander Aldric.

The Black Dragons.

The emperor is assigning different tasks to every prince and princess.

Then...

His answer came naturally.

”A king...”

”...doesn’t choose who deserves protection.”

”He protects all of them.”

”The loyal.”

”The foolish.”

”The weak.”

”Even those...”

”...who don’t believe in him.”

The Champion closed his eyes.

For a long moment...

Nothing happened.

Then...

He smiled.

A smile filled with pride.

”You...”

”...have learned.”

The blue crystal shattered on its own.

Cracks spread across the Guardian’s stone body.

His armor crumbled piece by piece.

He had not been defeated by force alone.

He had completed his purpose.

The system appeared.

The Champion removed the dragon emblem from his chestplate.

It transformed into a small black key etched with ancient runes.

He handed it to Kael.

”This...”

”...opens the inheritance chamber.”

He looked at Kael one last time.

”Walk your own path.”

”Do not become...”

”...a copy of those who came before.”

His body dissolved into countless particles of light.

The arena became quiet once more.

Only the ancient key remained in Kael’s hand.

Far beyond the trial chamber...

A massive stone door slowly began to unlock.

Behind it...

Something alive stirred.

Something that had slept since before the Empire was born.

Waiting...

For its next master.
