Chapter 2650: Chapter 2650: Restoring Peace to the People of the Northern Lands

This time, the Southern Lands have seen the arrest of a large number of officials, and there is an urgent need to appoint more officials to fill the vacancies.

But fortunately, the resentment of the people has been suppressed.

”Very well, you have done an excellent job this time.”

The Emperor let out a silent sigh of relief and didn’t hesitate to praise Lord Gongjian.

”Since you have returned, I should reward you, but there is an issue in the Northern Lands that requires your attention. Please look at these first.”

As he spoke, he handed over the items that An Jiuyue had previously brought back to Eunuch Fu.

Seeing this, Eunuch Fu promptly took the stack of papers and presented them to Lord Gongjian, who accepted them and began to read carefully.

”This...”

As he read, he glanced up at the Emperor, then continued to read.

He had heard about the severe drought in the Northern Lands, more devastating than in the past. Everyone wanted to find a solution to the drought, but no one had a real answer.

Now, after a brief look at these materials in his hands, he suddenly felt that perhaps the drought in the Northern Lands could be resolved.

Even if it couldn’t be completely solved, at least it could alleviate the suffering of the people there, sparing them from recurring years of water scarcity, food shortages, and the hardship of resorting to extreme measures.

”Is it your intention, Your Majesty, for this matter to also be entrusted to me?” He quickly browsed through the stack of papers, looked up at the Emperor, and asked.

”You are the person I trust the most, and such an important matter should naturally be entrusted to you. I won’t bother with formalities. When you have solved the issues in the Northern Lands and return, I will have a suitable reward for you.”

The Emperor nodded and spoke directly.

Lord Gongjian: ”...”

He wasn’t really concerned about the reward, only about the well-being of the people.

Moreover...

Let it be; whether he agrees or not, he must handle the Northern Lands’ situation. He would be more at ease managing the drought himself than sending someone else.

”Rest assured, Your Majesty, I will do my utmost to bring peace back to the people of the Northern Lands.”

”Very good.”

The Emperor nodded approvingly, casting a sidelong glance at Eunuch Fu.

Eunuch Fu understood and immediately left the imperial study room, also escorting out the palace maids and eunuchs who were serving inside.

Lord Gongjian watched as all the attendants were dismissed, feeling a shiver in his heart. Could it be that the situation in the Northern Lands was more complex than it seemed? Not meant to be known by others?

”Your Majesty, is there...”

”Gongjian, the situation in the Northern Lands is not as simple as you might think.” The Emperor raised his hand, signaling Gongjian to hold his words and let him finish speaking.

”Currently, Prince Zhan and Prince An Yang are in the Northern Lands. They have the necessary grains, and the disaster relief strategies in your hands were personally written by Prince An Yang. So, you only need to send people to implement them.

Your primary mission in the Northern Lands is to uproot the faction of the Retired Emperor completely, leaving none behind!”

The Emperor explained what An Jiuyue had told him about the activities of the Retired Emperor’s followers in the Northern Lands to Gongjian, so he would understand his true mission there.

”The Northern Lands suffer from perennial drought yet manage to maintain stability during crises. There must be some capable individuals there. When you eliminate those parasites of the nation, you can select some of these capable people to replenish the ranks, and I grant you the authority to do so.”

”Yes, Your Majesty, I shall not disappoint you.”

Lord Gongjian knelt respectfully before the Emperor, responding dutifully.
