Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Over on the other side, Sun Haoran and Doctor Wu had finished their comprehensive examination of Hua Yusen.

After Hua Yusen fell asleep, everyone filed out of the room.

Gu Qingyu looked at Sun Haoran and asked for confirmation, ”Younger Brother Sun, can Yu Sen really make a full recovery?”

”Yes, he can. Because Nuanyue has been diligently massaging him every day, Yu Sen’s muscles are very firm and flexible. He’ll be on his feet and fully recovered soon. You can all rest assured on that point.” Sun Haoran took the opportunity to praise his apprentice and attest to how hard Zhao Nuanyue had worked during this time.

Hearing this, Gu Qingyu smiled and nodded. ”Yu Sen is an exceptional man with a bright future ahead of him. This brings my heart some comfort.”

”Thank you for your concern, Elder Gu.” Hua Zhiqiang smiled, looking at Gu Qingyu with immense gratitude. ”From now on, the Hua family will continue to support you as always.”

”Good!” Gu Qingyu nodded. ”Nuanyue, from now on, don’t leave the hospital. Take good care of Yu Sen until he’s completely recovered.”

Sun Haoran understood Elder Gu’s kind intentions and added, ”Nuanyue, don’t go to the clinic for a while. Stay here and take good care of Yu Sen. The sooner he recovers, the better it is for you, for the Hua family, and it’s a comfort to us all.”

Zhao Nuanyue smiled and nodded. ”Alright. I’ll stay here and take care of Hua.”

Hua Zhiqiang wanted to object to Zhao Nuanyue staying but couldn’t bring himself to say it in front of Gu Qingyu and Sun Haoran. Besides, he and his wife had no time to stay with their son. Their second son, Hua Yulin, and their daughter, Hua Yufen, hadn’t even shown up yet, let alone offered to care for their older brother.

Seeing the situation, Feng Wanru quickly said, ”How about this? I’ll come and take care of Yu Sen tonight.”

Zhao Nuanyue listened, shook her head slightly, and said, ”Auntie, you have to work during the day. If you come to care for Hua at night, your body won’t be able to take it, and Hua would feel bad for you. As for me, my master has already given me permission to stay away from Immortal Grass Hall. I have nothing else to do, so I can take care of Hua. Once Hua recovers, he can come home sooner and be reunited with everyone.”

Feng Wanru was swayed. She believed Zhao Nuanyue would be good to her son and was even better at caregiving than she was. Disregarding her husband’s expression, she nodded and said, ”Well... then I’ll have to trouble you.”

”It’s no trouble. Hua is my fiancé. Of course I should take good care of him. It’s my duty, so please don’t be so formal, Auntie,” Zhao Nuanyue said with a light laugh, asserting her presence. ’Whatever the Hua family might be thinking right now, I, Zhao Nuanyue, am Hua Yusen’s rightful fiancée. Of course I have the right to be here taking care of him.’

’As for Hua Zhiqiang, that somewhat snobbish old man, I have no intention of dealing with him.’

’As long as Elder Gu is here and Hua Yusen’s heart is with me, Hua Zhiqiang’s opinion doesn’t matter, even if he’s unhappy with it.’

’After all, the Hua family still has to keep up appearances.’

When Feng Wanru heard this, her face lit up. ”Yes, Yu Sen is blessed to have a fiancée like you. Since you’ll be staying the night, you should go home and pack some things. Your Uncle Hua and I will watch over him here.”

”Okay, I will.” Zhao Nuanyue agreed. Then she left the hospital with Little Red Carp, following Gu Qingyu and Sun Haoran.

Zhao Nuanyue took Little Red Carp home to pack her clothes, while Sun Haoran left with Gu Qingyu.

「In the car」

Gu Qingyu sighed softly and said, ”Hua Zhiqiang has gotten a bit muddled.”

”Heh, anyone who would form a marriage alliance with the Guo Family and treat them as allies clearly isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed,” Sun Haoran said. He wouldn’t have commented on anyone else Elder Gu mentioned, but when it came to Hua Zhiqiang, his own apprentice’s future father-in-law, he didn’t hold back.

’The moment his son wakes up, he starts looking down on Zhao Nuanyue. He doesn’t even stop to think about who was by Hua Yusen’s side when everyone else had given up hope on him.’

”Indeed. Fortunately, a fine bamboo shoot can grow from a rotten stalk. That boy, Yu Sen, is excellent.” Gu Qingyu nodded in approval. ”His strategic perspective, his way of thinking, his skills—they’re all top-notch. And what’s even rarer is his loyalty.”

Seeing that Elder Gu’s assessment of Hua Yusen was far higher than his opinion of Hua Zhiqiang, Sun Haoran felt relieved. He chuckled and said, ”My apprentice can be a bit naive. I hope Elder Gu will look out for her in the future!”

”Haha, you worry too much. Nuanyue isn’t naive at all; she’s a sharp and clever young woman.” Gu Qingyu chuckled, his opinion of Zhao Nuanyue also high. ”Nuanyue is a girl who knows her own mind and has a sincere heart. A woman like that will always win people over. Add to that her stunning beauty, and that boy Yu Sen will probably be wrapped around her little finger for the rest of his life.”

Sun Haoran heard this, shook his head, and laughed. ”I suppose she’s one of those fools who are blessed with good fortune. I just hope things go smoothly for her from now on.”

”They will,” Gu Qingyu nodded. ”As long as I’m around, Hua Zhiqiang won’t dare to do anything too outrageous. Besides, he has one very useful weakness: his pride. He values the Hua family’s reputation above all. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have stuck with the engagement even after what the Guo Family pulled!”

”Heh, if he’s concerned about his reputation, then he’s manageable. It’s the shameless ones you have to worry about,” Sun Haoran laughed, finally feeling a bit more at ease.

Gu Qingyu fell silent, closing his eyes to rest. ’I can’t wait for Hua Yusen to recover,’ he thought. ’I have a much more important mission to give him. I can’t entrust it to anyone else.’

Zhao Nuanyue rode her bicycle with Little Red Carp, humming a little tune along the way, in an exceptionally good mood.

Little Red Carp didn’t say a word the whole way. She was sulking!

「Back at home」

Little Red Carp was still pouting.

”Little Red Carp, what’s wrong?” The oblivious Zhao Nuanyue finally noticed that Little Red Carp was angry and quickly asked, ”Are you hungry?”

Little Red Carp looked at Zhao Nuanyue with pitiful eyes, sighed, and said, ”Silly sister, you’re just so dense.”

”What’s the matter?” Zhao Nuanyue was confused, a blank look on her face. ’I already bought her the candied haws she likes. And I don’t think I’ve forgotten any recent promises I made to her.’

Little Red Carp put her hands behind her back and walked ahead.

”Dummy sister, didn’t you notice that Hua Zhiqiang seems unhappy with you?” Little Red Carp asked with a frown. ”Even I could see it. How could you, a grown-up, not notice?”

”Huh?” Zhao Nuanyue was taken aback for a moment, then she laughed. She quickened her pace, walked up behind Little Red Carp, and scooped her up. ”Haha, Little Red Carp, you’re so smart! You actually noticed he was unhappy.”

”Sister, you noticed too?” Little Red Carp asked in surprise. ”But from your expression, I couldn’t tell at all! So why aren’t you angry or upset?”
