Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

”Haha!” Li Gongming chuckled, looking at Zhao Nuanyue’s face, flushed with anger. It was tender and fair, like a ripe, rosy peach. ”I’m even more curious about you now. Let me explain—Guo Dongmei is just a friend, not my girlfriend. So please, don’t get the wrong idea.”

Zhao Nuanyue was dumbfounded. ’I want to bang my head against a wall!’ she thought.

’Doesn’t Mr. Li always act so high and mighty, using his good looks to get by?’

Zhao Nuanyue saw herself as just a country bumpkin. ’How could someone like Li Gongming possibly be interested in me?’

But here Li Gongming was, on only their second meeting, spouting all this nonsense. ’Does he really think he’s some kind of Casanova?’

’Pah!’

’He’s a complete scumbag, worse than pig slop.’

”I don’t even know who you are. What is there for me to misunderstand?” Zhao Nuanyue sneered. ”This is completely ridiculous. You’re insane!”

Zhao Nuanyue felt that talking to Li Gongming here was a complete waste of time. She needed to get back and take care of Hua Yusen.

The Little Red Carp, perched on its sister’s shoulder, looked at the smiling Li Gongming, made a terribly ugly face at him, and stuck out its tongue. ”Crazy person, idiot!”

”Stay far away from psychos like him in the future,” Zhao Nuanyue instructed in a low voice. ”You can’t let them trick you, understand?”

”I know!” The Little Red Carp nodded repeatedly. ”I get it.”

Li Gongming’s smile finally vanished completely after Zhao Nuanyue and the Little Red Carp were far away.

His bodyguard, watching from a short distance, saw the exchange. It was the first time he had ever seen his master stumble.

In the past, the young master had always been dashing and suave, and everything went his way.

”Sir, do you want me to teach that Zhao Nuanyue a lesson?” the bodyguard asked quietly. He would always find a way to get any woman his master wanted.

The corner of Li Gongming’s mouth curled up. He shook his head. ”No need. I enjoy conquering women. Especially a rose with thorns like this one.”

Seeing that Li Gongming had said his piece, the bodyguard didn’t press the matter.

Meanwhile, Zhao Nuanyue returned to Hua Yusen’s hospital room. She carefully washed him, noticed his fingernails had grown long again, and began to clip them before giving him a massage.

”Hua, you have to wake up soon,” Zhao Nuanyue said softly while massaging him. ”Did you know? Li Gongming, that handsome man, cornered me today and said a bunch of nonsense. I saw the desire to conquer in his eyes. If you don’t wake up, that man might come back to harass me.”

Seeing this, the Little Red Carp quickly said, ”Sister, you shouldn’t agitate him. It will affect his ability to absorb Spiritual Power.”

”Oh,” Zhao Nuanyue replied. She had been about to say more, but she stopped. ”But you know, you’re the only man I love. I won’t fall for anyone else. So you can rest easy. Get some good rest.”

By the time Zhao Nuanyue finished, Feng Wanru still hadn’t arrived.

Zhao Nuanyue decided not to wait for her. She took the Little Red Carp and headed to her home by Qingya Lake, planning to plant the Dragon Wisdom Grass with it today.

But just as she was leaving the hospital, she ran into Li Gongming.

”Nuanyue, let me give you a ride,” Li Gongming said softly. ”It’s cold and the roads are slippery. Riding a bike isn’t safe.”

”No, thanks.” Zhao Nuanyue quickened her pace, got on her bike, and sped away.

Just as Zhao Nuanyue left, Guo Dongmei came over, pushed in a wheelchair. She was holding Li Gongming’s car keys. ”Gongming,” she said, ”here are your keys. You forgot them!”

Li Gongming felt his pockets and, sure enough, his keys weren’t there. He took them and smiled. ”Thanks. I’ll come see you another day. I have to go, I’ve got something to do.”

”Then drive safe,” Guo Dongmei said with a gentle smile. ”Be careful on the road.”

”I will.” Li Gongming got in his car and drove off. He had sent his bodyguard on another errand, so he had to drive himself.

After Li Gongming’s car was long gone, the middle-aged woman behind the wheelchair asked in a low voice, ”Miss, when I came in this morning, I saw Mr. Li talking to that woman. They seemed to be hitting it off. I can’t believe I just saw him talking to her again.”

Guo Dongmei had seen everything. She was furious, wishing she could kill Zhao Nuanyue right then and there. But in front of Li Gongming, she couldn’t show her anger or jealousy, couldn’t even say a single unhappy word.

Ever since her car accident, Guo Dongmei found herself thinking about what Zhao Nuanyue had said.

Her relationship with Hua Yusen was over, which was what she had always dreamed of. Now, she needed to solidify her relationship with Li Gongming instead of continuing this ambiguous affair. Although they had been intimate, Li Gongming had never once mentioned getting engaged or married.

She had tried to probe him a few times, but Li Gongming acted as if he didn’t understand, refusing to give her any promises.

Then she thought about Li Gongming flirting with Wu Jingjing, which made her feel even more insecure and panicked.

In terms of family background, she couldn’t compare to Wu Jingjing. The only things she had over Wu Jingjing now were her face and her seductive body, so she had to make the most of them.

Zhao Nuanyue’s words had been crude, but they hit right where it hurt.

Seducing him into bed hadn’t worked on Li Gongming. After all, no one else knew they had slept together, and she had no proof. That left only one other method: a shotgun wedding, where the mother gains status through her child.

If she got pregnant, Li Gongming couldn’t just let a child of the Li family’s bloodline be born out of wedlock. That would be her chance to enter the Li family.

”Yes. Pay it no mind,” Guo Dongmei said, suppressing her rage. ”Let’s go. We’ll find the doctor and ask when I can be discharged and when I can get back to normal.”

Time was of the essence, and Guo Dongmei was growing impatient.

”Yes, Miss,” the middle-aged woman said. ”But about that Zhao Nuanyue and Mr. Li...?”

”Mr. Li wouldn’t be interested in that country bumpkin. She can’t bring any benefit to the Li family. Besides, Zhao Nuanyue is so close to Hua Yusen, and his family is an enemy of the Li family. So there’s no way it could happen between them,” Guo Dongmei explained, though it sounded more like she was trying to convince herself.

The middle-aged woman saw the ugly look on her mistress’s face and didn’t ask any more questions. ’As for this Zhao Nuanyue, though,’ she thought, ’I’ll have to investigate her thoroughly.’

Suddenly, Guo Dongmei thought of how much Zhao Nuanyue disgusted her, and decided she would make sure Zhao Nuanyue’s life was anything but peaceful. She said to the middle-aged woman behind her, ”Auntie, that woman Zhao Nuanyue caused my car accident. We can’t let her get away with it. The situation in Jincheng City is too tense right now, so we can’t kill her, but I can torment her in other ways.”

”There are many ways to deal with a person,” Guo Qingqing said with a smile. ”Do you need me to handle it?”

Guo Qingqing wasn’t Guo Dongmei’s biological aunt. She had been adopted by Mr. Guo long ago. Although Guo Dongmei called her ”Auntie,” Guo Qingqing had always seen herself as a servant of the Guo Family.
