Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

The Little Red Carp was pale and motionless, her eyes shut as she remained unconscious.

”Little Red Carp, what’s wrong?” Tears streamed down Zhao Nuanyue’s face in her panic. If the Little Red Carp were a normal child, she could have taken her to the hospital, but she wasn’t.

No matter how Zhao Nuanyue called her name, the Little Red Carp didn’t respond.

Zhao Nuanyue was at a complete loss, unsure what to do. All she could do was sit by the bed and hold the Little Red Carp’s hand.

Zhao Nuanyue clasped her hands together, praying to the heavens and the Old Dragon King for help.

”Please, heavens. Please, Old Dragon King. Save the Little Red Carp,” Zhao Nuanyue pleaded. She remembered the Little Red Carp had once said there was Dragon Energy in the direction of the Imperial City, so she turned that way and began to kowtow, her attitude one of utter devotion.

Whether it would work or not, Zhao Nuanyue felt she had to do *something*.

Time ticked by, second by second. Fortunately, the Little Red Carp’s face was no longer so pale. After more than an hour, her complexion had become much rosier.

Seeing this, Zhao Nuanyue’s prayers grew even more devout.

More than two hours later, the Little Red Carp slowly opened her eyes and saw her sister kneeling and bowing in the direction of the Imperial City.

”Sister...” The Little Red Carp’s voice was still very weak, but the fact that she was awake at all was a tremendous relief.

Hearing the Little Red Carp’s voice, Zhao Nuanyue whipped her head around, her face lit with delighted surprise. ”Little Red Carp, you’re finally awake! What on earth happened earlier? Why did you suddenly faint?”

”It’s nothing, I’m fine now,” the Little Red Carp said, comforting her sister. ”You don’t need to worry about me.”

How could Zhao Nuanyue not worry about the Little Red Carp?

But she didn’t want to upset the Little Red Carp, so she nodded and said, ”Okay, okay, I won’t worry, and you don’t worry either. But tell me honestly, is being in Jincheng City bad for you? If it is, then let’s go back to Nianqiao Village.”

’So this is how important I am to her,’ the Little Red Carp thought, deeply moved. ’She’s willing to give up everything in Jincheng City and go back to Nianqiao Village with me.’

The Little Red Carp knew her sister still had feelings for Hua Yusen and held many lofty ambitions, so she didn’t want to return to Nianqiao Village. Besides, it was actually quite nice in Jincheng City. The local culture was completely different from Nianqiao Village, but it was rich and vibrant.

Moreover, her condition today had nothing to do with the change of location; it was because she had suddenly used up all her Mana.

”Sister, it’s not what you think. I didn’t faint today because we left Nianqiao Village. It was because I overused my Mana,” the Little Red Carp explained, not wanting her sister to worry. ”Actually, we’re doing great here. I like Jincheng City. There’s Dragon Energy here, so I can even train.”

”Huh?” Zhao Nuanyue was curious. ’Why on earth did the Little Red Carp use her Mana? And to the point of completely depleting it?’

What exactly had the Little Red Carp done?

Suddenly, Zhao Nuanyue recalled Guo Dongmei’s car getting a flat tire and crashing into a wall. ’Could that have been the Little Red Carp’s doing?’

”Little Red Carp, Guo Dongmei’s accident earlier... was that you?” Zhao Nuanyue asked, her voice urgent.

The Old Dragon King had told them before that they couldn’t use Mana against humans.

Zhao Nuanyue had always taken that to heart. Unless it was a matter of life and death, she would never use it.

Even though Guo Dongmei was a bad person—a scheming, domineering woman—Zhao Nuanyue had never considered using Mana against her. She would use human methods to pay her back, bit by bit.

Seeing that her sister had guessed, the Little Red Carp looked a bit embarrassed and said sheepishly, ”Sister, that person said such awful things. She was bullying you, and I wanted to stand up for you, so I used my Mana to blow out her tire, which made her crash into the wall.”

It was just as Zhao Nuanyue had suspected; the Little Red Carp had indeed used her Mana against Guo Dongmei.

Although Zhao Nuanyue was deeply moved, she didn’t want the Little Red Carp to break such a taboo for her sake, and she certainly didn’t want her using her Mana to the point of fainting. ”Thank you, Little Red Carp. You used up all your Mana just to stand up for me? As your older sister, I appreciate the thought more than I can say. I’m so grateful to you. But I still have to scold you. That Guo Dongmei means nothing to me, but you? You’re my sister. I don’t want anything to ever happen to you.”

Hearing her sister’s words, the Little Red Carp was so moved her eyes welled up.

”Sister, Guo Dongmei was bullying you. You’re so good, and she said those things about you... it made my heart ache,” the Little Red Carp said, her voice choked with sobs as she threw herself into her sister’s arms.

Hearing the Little Red Carp’s sincere, heartfelt words, how could Zhao Nuanyue not be moved? She hugged the Little Red Carp back, tears of emotion streaming down her face.

’My little sister is willing to sacrifice herself for me. That’s how much she loves me!’

”Little Red Carp, don’t ever do that again. Seeing you faint like that... I was scared to death. I can give up everything, but I absolutely cannot lose you and Nuanyang,” Zhao Nuanyue said, choking up. ”We’re family now. If I lost you both, what would be the point of living? Someone like Guo Dongmei isn’t worth sacrificing your Mana over. I’ll find a way to deal with her in the future. It’s just that we’re still too weak right now. Once we build up our strength, given time, we’ll show them what we’re made of.”

”Mhm,” the Little Red Carp nodded. ”Sister, I’ll listen to you.”

The sensible Little Red Carp made Zhao Nuanyue adore her even more.

”Little Red Carp, do you remember? The Old Dragon King told us not to misuse our Mana against humans. Will you suffer divine punishment for doing this?” Zhao Nuanyue asked. ”Does fainting earlier count as that?”

The Little Red Carp shook her head. ”That doesn’t count. My Mana isn’t that strong, and the Old Dragon King knows that. He also knows I wouldn’t kill anyone; at most, I’d just pull a few pranks. But Sister, I have to remind you. What happened today... even if you had enough Mana to do it, you shouldn’t. Because *you* would face divine punishment.”

Hearing that the Little Red Carp wouldn’t face divine punishment, Zhao Nuanyue’s heart was finally at ease.

As long as the Little Red Carp was okay, that was all that mattered!

”That’s good, then I’m not worried anymore. But I’m telling you this very seriously: don’t ever use it again,” Zhao Nuanyue said earnestly, cupping the Little Red Carp’s chubby little face in her hands. ”This time, it’s a warning. Next time you disobey me, I’ll spank your bottom, and there’ll be no treats for you.”

”Okay, okay, I won’t, I promise I’ll never do it again. I didn’t expect Mana exhaustion to feel so awful, so painful. I thought I might not wake up,” the Little Red Carp said wheedlingly. At the same time, a wave of fear washed over her. ’From now on, unless it’s a matter of life and death, I’ll never use a Spell against anyone.’ She continued aloud, ”Luckily, we’re close to the Imperial City and Qingya Lake, so I can absorb a lot of Dragon Energy to recover.”
