Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Her father wouldn’t harm her. Guo Dongmei felt her father had a point.

”Dad, you’re right. I shouldn’t be so servile,” Guo Dongmei said. ”Whatever you decide, I’ll go along with it.”

”Good. That’s my girl,” Mr. Guo said with a smile. ”You should all understand how the Li family got its start. A family like that isn’t very stable. The moment Gu Qingyu finds an opening, the Li family will be wiped out. If we make our moves carefully and plot slowly, our foundation will certainly be more solid than theirs.”

”Yes, Father,” Guo Donghai said excitedly. ”The Li family’s foundation is indeed shallow. They rose to power by relying on a woman, so of course they aren’t secure. Here in Jincheng City, the Huo, Wu, and Zheng families don’t show off their strength, but their hidden power is immense. The only reason they haven’t confronted the Li family or made any big moves is that they’re biding their time and building up their strength, just waiting for the right moment.”

”Not bad.” Mr. Guo nodded. ”You’ve done well to see this. I’m very pleased. From now on, be even more low-key and cautious when you’re out and about. That’s the only way we can seize greater benefits from the chaos. If we aren’t careful, it will be eternal damnation, all our efforts wasted.” Mr. Guo said in a low voice, ”When the nest is overturned, how can any eggs remain intact? I hope you two can work together with one heart to strengthen our Guo Family.

Mr. Guo ”brainwashed” his son and daughter again and again.

”Yes, Father,” Guo Donghai and Guo Dongmei replied in unison, their hearts full of hope for the future.

As for matters of love and romance, they suddenly seemed far less important.

Guo Dongmei might be able to temporarily set aside her obsession with Li Gongming, but she would never let that detestable Zhao Nuanyue off the hook. She would definitely make Zhao Nuanyue suffer.

However, to the Guo Family’s disappointment, the Li family was not taken down by Gu Qingyu as Mr. Guo had predicted. On the contrary, they only grew stronger and more dominant.

So, the Guo Family began to adjust their strategy toward the Li family. Guo Dongmei became even more attentive, hovering around Li Gongming with a captivating, seductive charm that he quite enjoyed.

However, the Li family’s attitude remained as ambiguous as ever, leaving Guo Dongmei and the Guo Family to worry anxiously.

After the engagement, Zhao Nuanyue’s life changed a bit. Her daily routine, once a three-point line between the hospital, the old residence, and Immortal Grass Hall, now became a four-point line, because Little Red Carp had started kindergarten.

It was full of children. Although Little Red Carp always came home saying the kids in her class were annoying, always crying and sniveling, and very stupid, the next morning she would cheerfully sling on her little backpack and urge her sister to hurry up and take her to school. She was incredibly enthusiastic, never late, and never left early.

At the same time, because Little Red Carp was so well-behaved and adorable, her teachers were very fond of her.

Now it was the third day of the third lunar month, and the teacher had originally wanted to assign homework for all the students to make a kite at home, but that didn’t seem realistic. So, she gave this glorious task to Little Red Carp instead.

Little Red Carp loved it when her teacher gave her tasks because she found them very interesting.

After getting home, she would complete the task with her sister and brother. It was so much fun.

A month had passed since the engagement. Hua Yusen’s condition was getting better and better, but he still hadn’t woken up.

Zhao Nuanyue was getting anxious. She asked Little Red Carp, ”Little Red Carp, Hua hasn’t woken up yet. I’m getting worried, and I can’t wait for him to wake up.”

Little Red Carp rolled her eyes and pouted. ”You’re mean, Sister! You actually don’t believe in my abilities. I’ve already done my best to help him. Besides, Hua Yusen’s ability to absorb Spiritual Power is speeding up. You can’t blame me that he hasn’t woken up yet! But I can promise you, Hua Yusen will definitely wake up.”

”That’s good to hear.” Zhao Nuanyue clasped her hands together. ”Little Red Carp, please bless us so everything goes smoothly.”

”Of course it’ll go smoothly,” Little Red Carp said. ”Okay, you promised you’d fly kites with me. You can’t go back on your word, Sister.”

Zhao Nuanyue never broke a promise to Little Red Carp, because the little girl’s memory was too good. If she didn’t fulfill a promise, she would be reminded of it constantly.

Today was Sunday, so there was no school. Little Red Carp wanted to finish the teacher’s assignment as soon as possible. That way, she could share the finished kite with her teacher and classmates at school tomorrow.

”Alright!” Zhao Nuanyue nodded. She had already packed her things and was holding her bag in one hand and Little Red Carp’s hand in the other. ”Little Red Carp, if Hua suddenly wakes up all at once, it might be too abrupt and not so good. Is there a way to have him start by slowly moving his hands and feet, waking up little by little?”

Little Red Carp tilted her head up and said matter-of-factly, ”That’s how it’s going to be anyway. Different parts of the body absorb Spiritual Power at different rates, so when he wakes up, it will inevitably be little by little.”

”Oh, maybe that will be easier for everyone to accept.” Zhao Nuanyue nodded. Hua Yusen’s condition had been a mystery. The foreign medical expert, Doctor Wu, and Sun Haoran were both very anxious. They clearly felt his condition was improving, yet he just wouldn’t wake up.

If he were to wake up suddenly, the two of them would probably be even more baffled.

Returning to their home by Qingya Lake, she found the materials and started making the kite for Little Red Carp.

”Little Red Carp, what shape do you want to make the kite this time?” Zhao Nuanyue asked. Since it was for Little Red Carp, she should make it according to her preferences.

Little Red Carp smiled, then saw the swallows in the yard. Pointing at them, she said, ”Sister, I want to make it in the shape of a swallow! Our teacher taught us a song. Little Red Carp will sing for you, okay? Little swallow, in your coat of many colors, you come here every spring...”

Little Red Carp had a knack for talking to herself like that.

But seeing Little Red Carp imitate the swallows, flitting back and forth, made Zhao Nuanyue chuckle.

’Sigh. If swallows were really as round as Little Red Carp, they probably wouldn’t be able to fly.’

Because she had made a kite before, she was very skilled this time. In less than an hour, she had finished a large kite and said, ”When we go back tonight, we’ll have your brother draw the swallows on it. Then you can take it to school tomorrow to share with your teacher and classmates.”

”Mhm, mhm.” Little Red Carp nodded, reaching out her little hand to feel its surface.

Zhao Nuanyue placed the kite on the stone table, then got up to pull in a fish trap from the lakeside. Suddenly, she saw light green aquatic plants growing by the shore.

”Oh my, Little Red Carp, come look! The Dragon Wisdom Grass has already sprouted,” Zhao Nuanyue said in pleasant surprise. ”And it looks like it’s growing even better than it did in Nianqiao Village!”

Seeing the lovely Dragon Wisdom Grass, Zhao Nuanyue recalled its delicious and refreshing taste, and her mouth began to water.

Little Red Carp put down the kite and came trotting over. She nodded and said, ”Mhm, mhm, this is the Imperial City, after all. The Dragon Energy in Qingya Lake is much richer than in Nianqiao Village, so the Dragon Wisdom Grass can grow this well!”
