Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Hua Zhiqiang nodded. ”Of course, I firmly believe it! Some of the Li family’s actions have caused widespread panic. They’re ousting dissenters and making life miserable for the workers. When the workers have a hard time, the lives of the elites above them are naturally affected, since their lifestyle is built on the fruits of the workers’ labor. When everyone, from top to bottom, is struggling, people take notice. They’re not fools. After the Gu Family came to power, both the economy and public order have seen good development. People can see that clearly, which is why the Gu Family will definitely win.”

”Dad, what you just said... I heard something with the same meaning from Zhao Nuanyue today,” Hua Yulin said softly. ”She said the Gu Family’s victory is the choice of the people and the trend of the future.”

Hearing this, Hua Zhiqiang and Feng Wanru were both stunned.

’This Zhao Nuanyue really is something else, to have such foresight!’

But on second thought, it seemed impossible. Zhao Nuanyue was just a young person helping with development in the countryside; how could she possibly have such foresight? Perhaps she heard it from Sun Haoran? Or maybe from the Gu Family?

Hua Zhiqiang and Feng Wanru didn’t really believe Zhao Nuanyue could possess such insight on her own.

”Heh, that’s good then. Let’s just stand firm in our belief,” Hua Zhiqiang nodded. ”Once Zhao Nuanyue and your brother are engaged, we’ll be family. Zhao Nuanyue is a steady person; she can be trusted.”

Hua Yufen came downstairs, heard her mother’s words, and said with some worry, ”Dad, Mom, don’t you think Zhao Nuanyue is too beautiful? That playboy from the Li family is pestering her. Maybe it’s not just to get at my brother. Maybe he’s taken with Zhao Nuanyue’s beauty!”

”Sigh!” Feng Wanru nodded. ”You’re right. Based on looks, your older brother could match any woman. But now he’s in a coma, and we don’t know when he’ll wake up. Maybe... maybe he’ll never wake up. Zhao Nuanyue is so beautiful, will she be able to remain faithful?”

It was a question none of them could answer.

After a long moment, Hua Yulin slowly said, ”Dad, Mom, I trust our brother’s judgment. He was never happy about his engagement to Guo Dongmei. He even said the Guo Family was plotting something, but Dad, you didn’t believe him. You thought that with so many years of friendship between the Hua and Guo families, how could they possibly move against us? In the end, not only did the Guo Family make a move, they climbed to the top by stepping all over our Hua family. It shows that my brother is a very good judge of character.”

Hua Zhiqiang looked embarrassed. He had been the one to approve the marriage with the Guo Family, and he had thought they were fine. His judgment had been wrong.

”Yes, Yu Lin is right,” Feng Wanru replied. ”After that, Yu Sen tried to break off the engagement several times, but he kept compromising because of the situation. Since that’s the case, let’s trust Yu Sen’s judgment and agree to their engagement.”

”Alright.” Hua Zhiqiang nodded. ”No matter what the outcome is, and no matter what happens in the future, this was at least something your brother desperately wanted before he fell into the coma. If we truly care for him, we should fulfill Yu Sen’s wish.”

”Right,” Feng Wanru nodded. ”Fulfill Yu Sen’s wish.”

”But... but I still feel like something’s not right,” Hua Yufen shook her head. ”After all, for a woman as beautiful as Zhao Nuanyue... even if she liked my brother before, he’s not the handsome, dashing man with a bright future he once was. A typical woman would probably make the same choice as Guo Dongmei, right?”

”I think you’re overthinking it, Yu Fen,” Hua Yulin countered. ”Zhao Nuanyue liking our brother is one thing, but she also needs protection. The Gu Family is powerful and influential, but they’re swamped with countless matters and can’t possibly give her too much attention. If she gets engaged or marries our brother, she becomes part of the Hua family. We would naturally be grateful and would therefore protect her and her family. That’s one of her objectives, too.”

”Yes, that’s exactly right,” Feng Wanru nodded. ”If she marries into our family, our son might not be able to give Zhao Nuanyue a normal marital relationship, but she will receive the Hua family’s sincere protection, not exploitation or coercion.”

Zhao Nuanyue also had a stepfather, a step-grandmother, and a stepsister, none of whom were easy to deal with.

Therefore, Zhao Nuanyue’s current choice was completely understandable.

A girl with a clear motive was actually a good thing. At least they wouldn’t have to worry about someone using Zhao Nuanyue against the Hua family. She might even bring the family unexpected benefits. After all, Zhao Nuanyue once saved a member of the Gu Family. That deed alone was enough to ensure she could live a safe and prosperous life.

After their discussion, the family felt completely at ease.

In private, Feng Wanru went to a friend named Yuan Jingang. He used to read people’s Eight Characters of birth, but now, with the crackdown on feudal superstitions, he was working as a sweeper in a Daoist temple. She had obtained Zhao Nuanyue’s and her son’s Eight Characters and brought them to him for a reading.

The man was a bit surprised when he saw Zhao Nuanyue’s Eight Characters.

”What is it?” Feng Wanru asked. ”Are their Eight Characters incompatible?”

After looking them over, Yuan Jingang composed his expression and then smiled. ”A match made in heaven!”

”Master Yuan, we’ve been old friends for over twenty years. You and my Old Hua have a life-and-death bond. This concerns Yu Sen’s future happiness... Sigh, you know his current condition. I don’t know what to do anymore. I just hope to arrange a good marriage for Yu Sen. The girl likes him, too, so at least he’ll have someone to be with him in the future,” Feng Wanru said with a sigh. She didn’t know how she could make her son wake up.

’In her heart, she was even starting to believe in the old traditional practices.’

’A wedding to drive away misfortune!’

’Maybe if her son got married, the joy of the occasion would wash away the bad luck, and he would wake up!’

Hearing Feng Wanru say this, Yuan Jingang couldn’t help but smile. ”Alright, since we go way back, I won’t hide anything. Based on my thirty years of experience in divination, this woman will bring great fortune to her husband and his family. If she gets engaged and marries your son, she can truly use the happy occasion to wake him up.”

As soon as she heard this, Feng Wanru knew Yuan Jingang had guessed her thoughts. She quickly reminded him in a low voice, ”Master Yuan, keep your voice down. If anyone hears this, we’ll all be in trouble. You can’t read fortunes or practice feng shui for anyone except trusted people. It took Old Hua and me a tremendous effort to get you out last time. If you end up back in there, we probably won’t be able to help you again.”

”Heh heh, I know what’s at stake,” Master Yuan said with a smile. ”I’m only telling you this because you and Old Hua have done me a great favor. I wouldn’t bother saying this to anyone else. This young woman is excellent; I’m not deceiving you. Later, I’ll calculate an auspicious date for this girl and Yu Sen’s engagement and wedding. I guarantee your son will wake up.”
