Sweet Rebirth: The Little Healer

Wang Meng also called Hua Zhiqiang and Feng Wanru.

When Hua Zhiqiang and Feng Wanru got the call, they dropped everything and rushed over.

Based on what the doctor said and Hua Yusen’s movements, Feng Wanru saw a glimmer of hope that he would wake up. She clung to Hua Zhiqiang’s arm, crying tears of joy.

When Gu Qingyu arrived, the hospital room fell silent.

Gu Qingyu stood by Hua Yusen’s bedside and said gravely, ”Yu Sen, I know you can hear my voice. Don’t be anxious. A good mindset will help you wake up sooner. Your parents and Nuanyue have been very worried about you during this time. It’s a rare thing to have Nuanyue taking care of you so devotedly. By the way, did you know that you and Nuanyue are now engaged?”

Hua Yusen’s fingers twitched twice. He had been able to hear sounds for the past few days and had already learned of it from Zhao Nuanyue’s one-sided conversations.

Zhao Nuanyue smiled. ”Elder Gu, when Hua twitches his fingers twice, it means ’yes.’”

”Good, good!” Gu Qingyu was even more delighted. ”A beautiful bride, just the one you like. Focus on getting better and wake up soon, and you’ll get your wish and win the fair lady.”

Hearing this, Zhao Nuanyue blushed and shyly lowered her head.

”Elder Gu, you... please don’t say any more,” Zhao Nuanyue said in a low voice, feeling especially embarrassed.

”Haha, she’s shy,” Gu Qingyu laughed heartily. ”Alright, I’ll stop. Zhiqiang, you and your wife should stop crying too. This is a happy occasion. The Hua family reaching a new level of success is just around the corner.”

Hua Zhiqiang was thrilled and immediately said, ”Thank you for your support, Elder Gu.”

”The Hua family deserves this, and Yu Sen deserves it too,” Gu Qingyu said solemnly. ”I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll be going now. Take good care of Yu Sen.”

”Yes, Elder Gu. Take care,” Hua Zhiqiang nodded, walking Elder Gu out.

A great weight was finally lifted from Hua Zhiqiang’s heart.

’As long as my eldest son was like this, I knew that even if Elder Gu remembered the Hua family’s contributions, it wouldn’t be enough. Without someone who could hold their own, the family would at most receive some preferential treatment and maintain our current prestige. Reaching a higher level would be impossible.’

’To rise higher, you don’t just need support from above; you need to be capable yourself.’

’If you don’t have the ability, even if you’re forced into a higher position, you won’t be able to handle it. You’ll just end up being taken down or dragged back.’

Now, his eldest son was waking up. And Doctor Wu had said his bones and muscles were in good condition. As long as he woke up, he could make a full recovery.

After Gu Qingyu left, Hua Zhiqiang didn’t go straight back to the hospital room. Instead, he stepped outside to smoke a cigarette.

Women could express their joy with tears, but he was a man, the pillar of the family. He couldn’t cry.

He was also happy, also excited. He wanted to shout and scream to release the thrill in his heart, but this was a hospital. Only the cigarette in his hand could help him channel his overwhelming joy.

’My eldest son is about to wake up, about to regain his health. The Hua family finally has hope again.’

As Hua Zhiqiang was smoking and reflecting on this, someone walked up from the stairwell.

”Dad, is my brother awake?” Hua Yulin asked hurriedly. ”Is it true?”

”Your brother isn’t awake yet, but he’s conscious and can understand what I’m saying,” Hua Zhiqiang said with a smile. ”It shouldn’t be too long before he wakes up.”

”Good. That’s really good.” Hua Yulin nodded and then rushed into the room.

When Zhao Nuanyue saw Hua Yulin come in, she quickly said in a low voice, ”Yu Lin, your brother just fell asleep. Let him rest. You can talk to Hua later.”

Zhao Nuanyue pointed toward the door, then went out with Feng Wanru.

Hua Yulin glanced at his brother on the hospital bed, then followed them out.

”Sister-in-law, is my brother really asleep?” Hua Yulin asked, half-doubting. ”How do you know he’s asleep?”

Seeing Hua Yulin’s disbelief, Zhao Nuanyue chuckled and explained, ”Yu Sen started being conscious this morning after I arrived. He can move his fingers and toes, and he can hear me and react, which proves he can understand me. He got tired just now, so I asked if he wanted to rest. He twitched his fingers twice, and after that, I heard his breathing become deep and steady. That’s how I deduced he was asleep.”

In his haste, Hua Yulin hadn’t observed things that closely.

In fact, even Feng Wanru, who had been by Hua Yusen’s side the whole time, couldn’t tell whether he was asleep or not.

This just went to show how attentive Zhao Nuanyue was in her care for Hua Yusen; she could deduce his condition from the slightest movement.

Feng Wanru looked at Zhao Nuanyue, growing more and more pleased the longer she looked.

”Nuanyue, thank you for taking such good care of Yu Sen. If it weren’t for you, perhaps his recovery wouldn’t be going so well,” Feng Wanru said with a smile, her mood excellent. ’Master Yuan was right.’

’She brings prosperity to her family, her husband, and her sons.’

’It’s been less than two months since the engagement, and my son is already waking up.’

’Feudal superstitions are dregs of the past, but something that has been passed down for thousands of years can’t be completely worthless.’ Feng Wanru felt there was some truth to it, and in her heart, she began to take it more seriously.

’It’s a kind of cultural heritage!’

”No need to thank me. Hua is my fiancé, and he’ll be my husband in the future. Taking care of him is what I should do,” Zhao Nuanyue said with a light laugh. Then she looked at her watch. ”It’s 11:30 now. I have to go pick up my little sister. I’ll come back this afternoon to look after Yu Sen, after I’ve had lunch.”

”Alright, be careful then,” Feng Wanru said with concern, her appreciation for Zhao Nuanyue growing even deeper.

Hua Yulin said, ”Sister-in-law, I’ll take you!”

”No, thank you. I came by bicycle, so I can get back on my own. It’s not far,” Zhao Nuanyue refused. ”Hua won’t be awake for another two or three hours. You all should go get something to eat, too.”

Seeing Zhao Nuanyue’s refusal, Hua Yulin didn’t insist.

’She’s my sister-in-law, after all. I can’t be overly enthusiastic.’ For some reason, every time he saw his sister-in-law’s smile, he would feel a bit dazed and even let his imagination run wild.

’She’s my sister-in-law. It’s wrong to have these thoughts.’

”Be careful on your way then,” Hua Yulin said softly, watching as Zhao Nuanyue left.

Zhao Nuanyue rode her bicycle to pick up Little Red Carp. When she got to the nursery school, class hadn’t been dismissed yet.

After waiting for about five minutes, the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day.

Little Red Carp was thrilled to see her sister. She shouldered her small backpack, said goodbye to her teacher, and ran over to her.

”Sister, you’re really happy today. There must be good news,” Little Red Carp said with a smile. She already had a faint inkling.

Zhao Nuanyue smiled and nodded. ”Hua can move his fingers and toes, and he can understand what I’m saying. It seems like he’s about to make a full recovery.”

”I see.” Little Red Carp nodded. ”Congratulations, Sister. After being cleansed by that wisp of spiritual light, Hua Yusen’s body will change a lot. He’ll be different from before.”

”As long as he’s healthy, that’s all that matters,” Zhao Nuanyue said, not minding the details. Whether he became stronger or more handsome was not as important as him being healthy.
