The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1467: Chapter 1467: I Just Can’t Figure It Out

Ji You even thought that this kind of secret laboratory might exist elsewhere in the Alliance, just undiscovered, and these laboratories have been around for a long time, conservatively estimated at least over 10 years.

So, like the rampant black bears, Black Thorn Bees, and other Star Beast groups, are there still many more?

Thinking of A Ke, Granny Chen, Liu Ming... these innocent people, Ji You’s heart sank, are there still many innocents involved?

Ji You’s palm suddenly clenched tightly.

Time passed by bit by bit.

After Chu Jiaojiao and Shen Changqing left, they opened a video call with Ji You, Liu Fufeng, and Sheng Qingyan. Ji You put away his chaotic thoughts and focused on the screen.

They piloted the Mecha, racing forward at full speed, and in less than two minutes, they arrived at the abandoned mine Liu Fufeng mentioned. Before the Mecha landed, through the Mecha’s monitor, Shen Changqing’s brows furrowed immediately: ”A lot.”

At the entrance of the mine, it was densely packed with black bear corpses, with only a few keeping the complete shape of black bears, the others were unrecognizable, their flesh and blood exploded together. If it weren’t for the black fur, it wouldn’t be immediately clear at first glance that these were the corpses of a black bear group.

Chu Jiaojiao asked coldly, ”Who did this?”

To kill so many black bears in less than a night, clearly an ordinary person couldn’t do this. And to kill so many black bears without causing much commotion, it seemed they were silently dealt with by the hundreds or even thousands!

This!

What kind of Strength would it take?

Could Admiral Bai Ji do it alone?

A question mark popped into Chu Jiaojiao’s mind.

”Jiaojiao, zoom in the camera a bit.” The calm voice of Ji You came through the communication.

Hearing this, Chu Jiaojiao immediately piloted the spaceship, about to land. Beside her, Shen Changqing stopped her, saying, ”Don’t rush to land yet.”

What exactly was lurking on the ground was still unknown; suddenly landing might put them in danger.

Ji You said, ”None of you should land, just lower the Mecha’s probe to show me the condition of these black bears.”

Chu Jiaojiao followed the instruction and lowered the probe.

The camera zoomed in a bit, and even through the screen, Ji You could feel the intense smell of blood. He didn’t blink, staring closely.

At the same time, Chu Jiaojiao and Shen Changqing also watched intently.

A moment later.

Ji You said, ”This kind of death doesn’t look like it was killed by someone, it looks like Self-Destruction.” As someone who frequently piloted antique mechs for Self-Destruction, Ji You was very familiar with this method.

Shen Changqing was deep in thought, not saying a word.

Chu Jiaojiao said, ”Self-Destruction? Did these Star Beasts overeat and explode?”

No creature wants to die; the instinct for survival is innate to all creatures. Even if these black bears had some issues, they likely wouldn’t want to die.

So, what caused the black bear group to collectively commit suicide?

This question stumped Ji You and the others.

Ji You was also pondering when suddenly Shen Changqing piloted the spaceship, moved a few steps, seemingly about to jump into the jungle.

”Wait!”

”What are you doing?” Beside him, Chu Jiaojiao was startled and quickly followed.

”I’m going to check the mine,” Shen Changqing explained.

Chu Jiaojiao frowned, saying, ”At least give a heads up, we’re teammates, we should look out for each other.”

Shen Changqing’s face turned red. He was deep in thought with some clues and wanted to verify immediately, momentarily forgetting about Chu Jiaojiao beside him.

Red-faced and embarrassed, Shen Changqing said, ”That was rash of me.”

Ji You asked, ”What did the probe transmit back? Check it.”

Chu Jiaojiao immediately checked, ”Checked, no heat-sensitive sources around, no signs of life. Didn’t find anything unusual either.”

Following that, Shen Changqing checked his probe; nothing unusual as well.

Shen Changqing’s flushed face recovered somewhat. After thinking solemnly for a while, he said, ”Jiaojiao, I’ll go in alone, and you can cover me from outside to prevent any sudden occurrences.”

This place is about 150 kilometers from the spaceship Dock. If something unexpected happens, help won’t arrive in time. After contemplating, Shen Changqing decided to play it safe and thus proposed this suggestion.

Hearing this, Chu Jiaojiao thought for a while and nodded, saying, ”Okay, I’ll cover you from outside.” She didn’t rush into the mine, firstly because Shen Changqing was more meticulous, and secondly because he wanted to train, so she shouldn’t deprive him of the opportunity.

Shen Changqing greeted Ji You and the others, then quickly landed. The spot he chose was clearly well-considered, about 5 meters from the group of black bear corpses, at a relatively clean area. Once landed, Shen Changqing quickly piloted the Mecha, moved a few black bear corpses blocking the mine entrance, and the next second, a roughly 5-meter wide mine entrance appeared on the hillside.

After putting away the Mecha, Shen Changqing, wearing the highest level of protective clothing, slipped into the mine.

Ji You, Chu Jiaojiao, and the others watched him suddenly disappear, all their hearts tightened.

”Safe.”

Through the earpiece came Shen Changqing’s clear voice.

Ji You, Chu Jiaojiao, and the rest all exhaled in relief. Ji You said, ”Turn on the perspective sharing.”

Shen Changqing obeyed.

The next second, through the images transmitted by Shen Changqing, everyone realized it was a dark, damp mine, abandoned for a long time, filled with thick green moss that shone a bright green from afar.

Shen Changqing’s steps paused, saying, ”No dangerous items found for now.”

Ji You said, ”Better be safe.”

Shen Changqing: ”Mm.”

Then, he continued deeper into the mine.

The further he went, the less moss there was, probably because the deep part of the mine wasn’t near a riverbed. After a few turns, the path ahead was gone.

Inside the whole mine, nothing seemed unusual; it looked like a very ordinary mine.

Shen Changqing took out a probe and extended it.

Drip drop~

Drip drop~

Drip drop~

...

The probe kept working, checking for any hidden passages, secret rooms, or hidden doors nearby...

Nothing was found.

Shen Changqing was puzzled, muttering, ”How come there’s nothing found?”

Ji You said, ”Could it be there’s nothing inside the mine originally?”

Shen Changqing shook his head, saying, ”As for the black bear, an independent Star Beast, they rarely gather and certainly wouldn’t pool together in a plain mine like this. According to my speculation, this black bear group must have been drawn here by something specific, and that something is my current target.”

Chu Jiaojiao tilted her head, frowning tightly, ”I think the same. But where exactly is that thing hidden? I just can’t figure it out!”
