Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 747: Chapter 744: Human Greed

The employee, upon hearing this, was momentarily startled, then nodded and handed over the piece of rough stone.

Huo Sining smoothly took the stone from the employee’s hand.

The stone wasn’t large, weighing less than a kilogram, but as soon as it was in her hands, Huo Sining’s eyes darkened involuntarily and she couldn’t help but curve her lips into a smirk.

Without any outward sign, she glanced at Old Qi, who was nearby, and casually tossed the stone back into the pile of rough.

To make full use of the opportunity with Huo Sining’s assistance in assessing the stones, Wang Kaiwen didn’t waste time on the fully gambled rough stones but instead devoted himself to the half-gambled rough stones that had been sliced open. After about half an hour, Wang Kaiwen finally straightened up and walked out with several raw stones in his arms.

”Miss Huo...” Wang Kaiwen was just about to ask Huo Sining for her opinion but was unexpectedly interrupted by Huo Sining suddenly raising her index finger to him, signaling him to be quiet.

Wang Kaiwen was taken aback for a second, followed Huo Sining’s gaze to where Old Qi was chatting with Yue Meijun, and immediately understood.

Huo Sining was now a sought-after figure in the jade gambling circles. If Old Qi found out her identity, no one could guarantee that he wouldn’t hike up the prices right there and then.

Such incidents were not unfamiliar to Huo Sining. Back in Ruili, after she had uncovered an Emerald Heavenly Bead and imperial green, the vendors on Ruili Gambling Street all recognized her. Whenever she went to pick through the rough, those vendors’ eyes would light up at her arrival. Any rough stone she showed interest in was priced several times higher than it would be for anyone else.

Wang Kaiwen was skilled at reading people, so once Huo Sining signaled to him, he understood immediately. He moved the raw stones to his feet and without speaking, turned around as if he was about to look at other rough stones.

Taking advantage of the moment Wang Kaiwen turned away, Huo Sining nonchalantly crouched down and touched each of the five pieces of rough that Wang Kaiwen had picked out.

After feeling the first four, she was not pleased with the internal conditions of the rough stones, and Huo Sining no longer had any expectations for the batch Wang Kaiwen had chosen.

Returning the favor, and with no significant conflicts of interest with Wang Kaiwen, Huo Sining contemplated that if all else failed, she wouldn’t mind lending a hand. She would help Wang Kaiwen pick out a piece from the sliced half-gambled rough that could produce jadeite as compensation.

With this in mind, Huo Sining placed her hand on the last piece of rough, and to her surprise, her vision was suddenly filled with a patch of sky-blue color as pure as the heavens.

This discovery left Huo Sining quite astonished; she hadn’t anticipated that Wang Kaiwen’s luck would be so good.

This outcome spared Huo Sining some trouble. She smiled and discreetly kicked the significantly valuable piece of rough to the side. After some thought, she picked out one of the other four pieces that could yield a skin-green jadeite and set it aside with the other stone.

It was another ploy of Huo Sining; with her Heavenly Eye, these rough stones were trivial. But as the saying goes, even immortals find it hard to judge an inch of jade. If she appeared too extraordinary, even if others didn’t suspect her, it could still draw unwanted attention.

So she decided to keep a low profile, she had chosen those two rough stones for Wang Kaiwen, but only one of them could increase in value after cutting. As such, her chances of a win from gambling had dropped to half, which might dispel Wang Kaiwen’s suspicions about her.

When Wang Kaiwen turned around, Huo Sining had already picked out those two rough stones. Seeing Wang Kaiwen looking over, Huo Sining signaled with her eyes, and upon seeing the two rough stones on the ground, Wang Kaiwen immediately understood.

Out of the five rough stones, only two held the potential for increase in value, which made Wang Kaiwen feel a sense of gloom and his expression clearly showed some disappointment.

That is to say, human nature is always greedy. While walking the road, everyone hopes for a pie to fall from the sky right onto them. Yet, when a pie does indeed fall before someone, having picked up the pie, that person begins to feel disappointed, complaining that the pie isn’t big enough, sweet enough, or fragrant enough.

Even though he felt dejected at heart, staking on those two stones was better than nothing. Wang Kaiwen would certainly not throw away the ducks at hand and immediately carried the two rough stones to Boss Qi, ”Old Qi, find a worker to price these two stones for me!”

Boss Qi turned around, and upon seeing the two window-opened stones Wang Kaiwen was cradling, his eyes instantly showed delight, ”Ah, Boss Wang, hand the stones over to me, I will do the weighing myself for you!”

Wang Kaiwen had no objections, and simply handed the two rough stones to Boss Qi. Boss Qi worked quickly and efficiently, soon weighing the two rough stones.

A window-opened stone was priced at fifty-one thousand per catty, and Wang Kaiwen’s two rough stones totaled thirteen kilograms, which came to one million three hundred thousand.

A few days ago, when Yan Yurou purchased the Glass-type Jade Pendant from Huo Sining for two hundred thousand, Wang Kaiwen couldn’t bear the expense, but now it was his turn to pay for these two rough stones, he didn’t hesitate at all, and without even blinking transferred the one million three hundred thousand to Boss Qi’s account.

Boss Qi made a profit of one million in a single transaction and naturally, he couldn’t hide his beaming smile, his teeth on full display. Glancing over and seeing Huo Sining standing next to Wang Kaiwen, his interest piqued, and he half-jokingly, half-seriously smiled and asked Huo Sining,

”Since Miss is here to play with Boss Wang, why don’t you also try your luck and pick out a stone?”

Boss Qi’s rule here was always to do business only with regular customers. Even if Wang Kaiwen brought Huo Sining over, if Huo Sining wanted to buy a stone, Wang Kaiwen would need to request a place from Boss Qi on her behalf.

Wang Kaiwen had indeed planned to ask Boss Qi for a spot so that Huo Sining could pick one or two stones after the transaction was finished, but now that Boss Qi had taken the initiative, Wang Kaiwen naturally would not say anything more.

A glint flashed in Huo Sining’s eyes and the corner of her mouth curved into a smile as she slowly raised her head, feigning ignorance, and smiled at Boss Qi,

”Boss Qi, I don’t understand gambling on stones, and your prices are too high. How about you give me a fair price, and then I’ll pick out a cheaper rough stone to cut for fun?”

The boss had long since figured out that Huo Sining was a novice, and hearing her say this confirmed his belief that Huo Sining really wanted to try her luck by buying a stone; he was immediately amused and stretched out a finger, laughing, ”How about this, since the Miss is a friend of Boss Wang, I’ll make an exception, fifteen thousand a catty, Miss can pick any you like.”

Although Boss Qi had already reduced the price by five thousand, compared to the price of the stones Huo Sining had picked up in Pingzhou Ruili, these rough stones were several times more expensive.
