Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 711: Chapter 708 Wax Pill

Huo Sining’s mind and eyes were completely filled with the ivory carving in her backpack, and thinking about the secret hidden in the base of that carving made her itch to get back to the Huang Family right away.

After taking the elevator down to the exit of the Ghost Market, Zhou Shitao immediately called and summoned the middleman from before.

Apparently not expecting Wei Yanli to be there, the middleman showed a slight surprise, nodded to Wei Yanli with a respectful, ”Wei Shao,” as a greeting, and then respectfully opened the car door, inviting Huo Sining and the other two to get in.

Wei Yanli naturally recognized the middleman and gave him a faint nod.

It wasn’t until the middleman started the engine and the car sped away into the night that Wei Yanli snapped out of his trance, realizing belatedly and stupidly that he had forgotten to ask for Huo Sining’s contact information!

At this thought, Wei Yanli was instantly full of regret, furiously parked his car and rushed after them. Unexpectedly, his car had hardly left the parking lot when he was blocked at the exit.

”Wei Si, where are you rushing off to with such urgency, like you’ve got a fire lit under your ass?”

The car window rolled down to reveal a striking face inside, looking at Wei Yanli with eyes that carried a hint of languor and nonchalance.

As soon as Wei Yanli saw the man, his eyes lit up: ”Brother Hui, perfect timing. Help me look up a young lady who attended today’s black market auction with me!”

As soon as these words left his mouth, the previously half-closed eyes of the man shot open, sweeping across Wei Yanli’s face with the intensity of a laser.

Hadn’t Wei Si always been disinterested in women? Why had he suddenly seen the light? Could it be that he had experienced love at first sight?

Wei Yanli was clueless about what the other man was thinking. At the moment, his mind and vision were filled only with Huo Sining. The shock that girl had given him today was too great. How had such a young girl, around eighteen or nineteen, been so impressively sharp? So many had failed to see the truth about the fake Twining Plum Bottle, but how had she been the one to spot the problem right away?

With a smirk that wasn’t quite a smile, the man’s tone rose slightly, carrying a hint of flippancy and mockery as he said:

”What, has our perennial virgin finally got a clue? Fine, for the sake of your emotional awakening, I’ll go to the trouble of helping you this once. But, man, you are pretty wicked, setting your sights on an eighteen or nineteen-year-old girl. Aren’t you afraid of scaring her off?”

At these words, Wei Yanli jumped with irritation, knowing his older brother had misunderstood and hurriedly tried to explain:

”No, no, you’ve got it wrong, older brother! I’m not interested in that girl, I am... Ah, it’s too complicated to explain. Just help me with the inquiry, and you’ll understand once you find out. That girl is not simple; she’s much more interesting than those ordinary women!”

After all that praise, if it’s not interest, then what is it? Denial of heart’s truth!

Song Hui looked at Wei Yanli with disdain: ”Okay, I’ll have Zong Bao take a look for you. How old is that girl, and what’s her surname?”

With Zong Bao on the case, it was sure to be resolved quickly. Wei Yanli finally relaxed and spilled all the details: ”That girl looks to be about eighteen or nineteen years old, and her name is Huo Sining. She came with Master Zhou Shitao; seems like she’s the new apprentice Mr. Zhou just took on!”

As soon as Song Hui heard the name Huo Sining, his facial expression stalled, he glanced at Wei Yanli with a mock-smile, and laughingly said, ”I can’t help you with this one, go ask your cousin Gu Xu directly.”

”Ah?” Wei Yanli froze, and seeing Song Hui’s strange expression, he immediately felt that something was off. He couldn’t help but tentatively ask, ”Brother Hui, what do you mean?”

Song Hui had initially wanted to tease him but, seeing Wei Yanli’s clueless face, he found it no longer amusing. ”You’d better not set your sights on that girl; she is your future sister-in-law. You know very well what kind of person your cousin Gu Xu is. Don’t get yourself into trouble, and tuck away that unwarranted curiosity of yours. I heard that your family just won a big bid against the Liu Family. The head of the Liu Family is the type to bear grudges, so you better focus on yourself.”

Sister-in-law?!

As soon as Wei Yanli heard Song Hui’s words, he became completely dumbfounded. ”When did cousin Gu Xu find a wife?”

”Last year, when you were still abroad. That girl is now recognized by your family. Your grandfather and the others take her very seriously, so it’s best if you don’t think about her at all,” Song Hui explained casually.

Remembering Gu Xu’s cold gaze, Wei Yanli felt a chill run up his spine; he dared not harbor any further thoughts.

Gu Xu was not someone to be trifled with, and even the slow-witted Wei Yanli knew that Huo Sining, now a daughter-in-law of the Gu Family, was out of his league.

He couldn’t help but bow his head. ”I understand.”

Meanwhile, Huo Sining and her two companions arrived back home. It was already past midnight. Huo Sining, however, was exceptionally excited, not the least bit sleepy. As soon as she arrived at the Huang Family, she rushed into her room and locked the door behind her.

She took the ivory-carved Guanyin statue out of her backpack and followed the spot she had touched before, trying to carefully break open the crack that was filled with plaster.

However, the silicone was tightly sealed to the base, and despite her significant efforts, Huo Sining was not able to pry it open.

Unlike stone carvings, ivory carvings can be easily damaged if handled too roughly. Huo Sining didn’t want the ivory to break, so she had to think of another way.

After some thought, she took a piece of wire, heated it until it was red-hot over a candle, and then slowly threaded it through the silicone on the base of the ivory carving.

Upon contact with the scorching wire, the silicone immediately produced a strong burning smell, but the wire did manage to pierce a hole in it.

Since the wire wasn’t thick, it could only make a hole half a centimeter in size at a time. After several heatings, she melted a gap two to three centimeters wide in the base.

With her hand unable to fit through, Huo Sining had no choice but to stand the ivory carving up and shake it vigorously. However, after several shakes, the wax pill didn’t fall out from inside the ivory carving.

Using her Heavenly Eye Skill, she could see the wax pill was indeed still there. But during the process of melting the silicone with the hot wire, the wax pill also encountered the high temperature and partially melted, causing it to stick to the inner wall of the ivory carving.

Huo Sining had to pick up the charred wire again, wait for it to cool, twist it into a hook, and then probe it through the hole in the base , stirring around in the crack until she hooked the wax pill out.

Carefully placing the ivory on the table, Huo Sining couldn’t help but take a deep breath to calm her slightly nervous heart before picking up the wax pill.

Due to the high temperature melting, the wax pill didn’t look very intact. The wax, appearing yellowish-white, didn’t seem to be made of some specially formulated wax. Instead, it resembled the kind of ordinary candle wax that had been melted and kneaded from a household candle.
