Urban Martial Saint

A familiar voice, familiar chatter, the same feeling that makes you want to smack him, who else could it be?

Ye Qing and Fat Wang almost simultaneously turned to look, only to see a scruffy old man standing in the distance wearing a hat made of leaves, holding a roast wild chicken. And this old man, wasn’t anyone else, he was Old Chen!

”Holy crap!” Fat Wang was the first to shout, pointing at Old Chen and yelling, ”Ghost sighting!”

Seeing Old Chen, Ye Qing also shivered, could it really be a ghost? But it’s broad daylight, can ghosts come out during the day?

”It’s your grandfather!” Old Chen shouted even louder than Fat Wang, pointing at them from afar and clamoring: ”You heartless bastards, finally you showed yourselves. If you hadn’t come out, I wouldn’t have looked after your car anymore. I really don’t know what to say to you, when I fell off the cliff, you didn’t care about me? Ah? Not even came to see whether I was dead or alive, and immediately ran off? Luckily I recognized the way back and came back on my own, otherwise I’d have starved in the mountains? I really don’t know what to say, I’ve never met folks as un-loyal as you in my life!”

Old Chen’s words left Ye Qing and the others stunned, after a good while, Ye Qing looked at Old Chen in surprise and cautiously said, ”So you... you’re not dead yet?”

”Hell no, who talks like that?” Old Chen instantly got mad, took the roasted chicken off the stick, bit down hard, then pointed the stick at Ye Qing, saying: ”You die first, your grandfather is still alive!”

”Not dead huh?” Fat Wang and Ye Qing exchanged a glance, quickly stood straight, their earlier fear instantly gone, said: ”Hell, not dead, scared the crap out of me, thought it was a ghost. Not dead, what’s the showoff about, we’re both human, can you bite me?”

Ye Qing also felt a wave of relief, since Old Chen wasn’t dead, the guilt in his heart instantly vanished.

”You fell from such a high cliff, and you’re not dead?” Big Beard was still in shock because when they went to look, the cliff was about two to three kilometers high, how could he possibly not be dead?

”Nonsense, I didn’t fall off the cliff at all!” Old Chen said: ”I just fell down and got caught by a tree, later I climbed back up myself. Damn, do you know how much effort it took me to climb up? Do you know how steep that cliff is?”

Ye Qing and the others exchanged glances, there were so many Long-toothed Rats encircling at that time, they only saw Old Chen falling off the cliff and had no way to approach to see how he fell. The situation was really urgent at the time, they didn’t dare to stay. Who could have thought, Old Chen’s fate was so big, falling off such a cliff and could still be caught by a tree, saving his life, this really was rare.

However, no matter what, Old Chen isn’t dead, Ye Qing’s guilt also dissipated a lot. If this old guy had died, Ye Qing probably wouldn’t be able to forgive himself.

”It’s good to be alive, it’s good to be alive!” Ye Qing nodded, then suddenly remembered something, looked at Old Chen, and asked curiously: ”By the way, how did you manage to come out from the mountain?”

”I just ran out like this.” Old Chen said: ”What’s wrong with that?”

Ye Qing and the others exchanged glances, Big Beard said: ”I mean, you... you didn’t encounter any danger along the way? Not to mention the Long-toothed Rats, there are so many tigers, leopards, wolves, and wild boars on that mountain, you didn’t encounter even one?”

Ye Qing and the others met wild beasts almost every mountain they crossed on their way out. Luckily, none were weak, and with Shijia accompanying, they faced no danger all the way. But everyone knew there were many wild beasts inside Xiliang Mountain. Just because they escaped safely didn’t mean someone else could do the same. Based on what they saw in the mountain, not mentioning the Long-toothed Rats, just thinking about those beasts. Even a few strong young men, without tools and enough teamwork skills, might find it hard to make it out of the mountain.

And Old Chen, a seventy-something old guy, although in good health, walked over a hundred miles out of Xiliang Mountain barehanded, which was inevitably shocking.

”Nonsense, so many beasts in the mountains, how could I not encounter them?” Old Chen said: ”But I’m not stupid. When I saw beasts, I quickly climbed a tree!”

”You said you couldn’t climb trees?” Ye Qing asked curiously.

Old Chen: ”I really didn’t want to learn, but in dangerous times, a person’s potential is limitless!”

Ye Qing looked at Old Chen with suspicion. How could he believe this? There are so many wild animals on the mountain, even if Old Chen could climb trees, it’s not like he could just walk out alive. Tigers and wolves don’t climb trees, but there are some animals like leopards that do. How did Old Chen avoid those?

Honestly, when Old Chen fell off the cliff, and Ye Qing thought he was dead, he felt guilty and stopped suspecting him. But now, seeing Old Chen standing here, having walked out of Xiliang Mountain alone, Ye Qing couldn’t help but suspect him again. Given Old Chen’s condition, it was impossible for him to escape the mountain alone. Moreover, Ye Qing remembered there were no trees near the cliff edge where Old Chen fell. Old Chen claimed a tree caught him, but Ye Qing found that hard to believe.

The doubts that Ye Qing had buried began to resurface. He studied Old Chen, pondering continuously. Based on the fact that Old Chen survived and walked out of Xiliang Mountain, he definitely wasn’t ordinary. If that were true, then Old Chen might have deliberately fallen off the cliff, purposefully avoiding entering the mountain. This suggested that Old Chen was anything but normal!

But then, why would Old Chen not want to go into the mountain? What was he hiding? Could Old Chen be a master of some sort?

Despite the doubts clouding his mind, Ye Qing knew he couldn’t directly question Old Chen, as the old man wouldn’t reveal anything anyway. However, Ye Qing’s suspicions deepened, feeling that Old Chen was far more complicated than he appeared. The events at Xiliang Mountain seemed to only confirm Ye Qing’s suspicions further.

After chatting briefly, Ye Qing and his companions didn’t linger, heading straight to Zhou Yue’s place.

Shortly after Ye Qing and his companions left, the grass in the peripheral area of Xiliang Mountain began to move slowly. Amidst this movement came a sparse, rustling sound. Not long after, a small hole appeared above the grass, and a Long-toothed Rat poked its head out of the brush.

Before long, heads popped out all over the nearby grass—more Long-toothed Rats. They had reached the outskirts of Xiliang Mountain. If Ye Qing saw this, he’d be utterly shocked because his worst fear had come true: these Long-toothed Rats had indeed left the confines of Xiliang Mountain and were heading toward human settlements.

Not long after the Long-toothed Rats emerged, one of them sniffed the air, suddenly darting out towards a nearby dirt mound. The rat sniffed the dirt as if it had caught a scent. Shortly after, it began to claw at the mound.

As it dug, more Long-toothed Rats scurried over to help it dig. Within minutes, the mound was dug open, revealing over a dozen corpses!

Judging by the appearance of the bodies, they hadn’t been dead for long; they must have arrived near Xiliang Mountain not too long ago. There were no wounds on their bodies, yet they all died mysteriously here. It’s unclear who killed them.

Fortunately, Ye Qing and his companions didn’t see these bodies. If they had, they’d be even more astounded. Considering the timing of these deaths, Old Chen likely passed through this area. Yet, Old Chen remained alive, which would have left Ye Qing perplexed. Unfortunately, Ye Qing and his companions had already left and would never know about this incident.

The Long-toothed Rats, indifferent to any peculiarities of the bodies or their origin, began to tear into them, consuming them like flesh-eating insects. Within a short while, nothing was left of the corpses but scraps.

Meanwhile, at Wan Yan Manor, several key members of the Wanyan Family were gathered, with Wanyan Second Master sitting in the main seat.

According to the latest information, Ye Qing, accompanied by Shijia, had reached Zhou Yue’s location, preparing to catch a flight back to Shenchuan City.

Wanyan Second Master’s face was livid, his teeth grinding in apparent fury. After a long silence, he finally gritted his teeth and said, ”Third Brother, contact those people outside Xiliang Mountain immediately and ask them why they failed to hold Ye Qing and Shijia!”

”Yes!” Wanyan Hongsheng quickly took out his phone and called, but after several rings, there was no answer.

Little did Wanyan Hongsheng know that, at this moment, on the edge of Xiliang Mountain, the Long-toothed Rats were curiously surrounding the ringing phone. Naturally, these rodents had no idea what a phone was, only that it fell out from the corpses and wasn’t edible.

After two unanswered attempts, Wanyan Hongsheng turned to Wanyan Second Master and said, ”Second Brother, no one is answering the phone.”
