Urban Martial Saint

Hearing the sound of flowing water, not only Old Chen was excited, but everyone else was also extremely happy. After all, they had been trapped in the Tomb of Ghost Valley Master for two or three days, and they were finally able to leave. Anyone would be thrilled.

The Seventh Elder’s eyes were especially gleaming with excitement. He was the most excited of them all because Ye Qing had already told him that once they left the Tomb of Ghost Valley Master, Ye Qing would immediately hand over what he obtained from the tomb to the Seventh Elder to save Huangfu Ziyu. The Seventh Elder had also made up his mind. Once he got his hands on the item from the tomb, he would immediately contact the Wanyan Family and have them rescue him. This way, he would have rendered an enormous service to the Wanyan Family, and when he got back, he would become the greatest hero in the family!

Therefore, upon hearing the flow of water, the Seventh Elder couldn’t wait to rush over and take a look at what was outside the stone corridor!

Listening to the sound of the water, Ye Qing slightly furrowed his brows and whispered, ”Given our current position, we should be underground. This sound of flowing water should be from an underground river. Everyone, be careful; these underground rivers are not necessarily safe, and there might be Tomb Guardian Beasts.”

Ye Qing had been inside a few tombs before and knew that the underground rivers there were specifically designated for raising Tomb Guardian Beasts. So, upon hearing the sound of water, his first concern was the Tomb Guardian Beasts, unlike the others who were so excited. Moreover, he always felt that the Gate of Life shouldn’t be so simple. If it were this simple, why hadn’t anyone managed to enter the Tomb of Ghost Valley Master for thousands of years? Also, you could only enter the tomb through the Open Door, while the Gate of Life allowed only exit, not entry. There certainly had to be some problem here.

Old Chen said, ”We’ve come this far, what Tomb Guardian Beasts can there be? You’re just being alarmist. Let me tell you, I’m most familiar with such situations. With my years of grave-robbing experience, I can tell you clearly, as long as we follow the direction of this underground river, we will definitely find an exit. Even if it’s not a regular exit, jumping into the underground river and following the flow would surely lead us out!”

No one paid attention to Old Chen; everyone looked at Ye Qing because they had all started to automatically filter out Old Chen’s words.

”Follow me, but don’t stay too close!” Ye Qing drew his Tianzhu Sword, gripped it tightly in his hand, and walked ahead.

The group followed Ye Qing’s instructions and walked slowly behind him. Even though they could hear the sound of water, they still walked along the stone corridor for about ten minutes before finally emerging from it.

Outside the stone corridor was a long, narrow cave. The cave wasn’t wide, and in the middle was an underground river about seven or eight meters wide. The rushing water they had heard earlier was coming from here.

Seeing the rushing water in the underground river, Wen’er turned to Old Chen, softly saying, ”Old guy, didn’t you just say that if we jump into the water, we can definitely get out? Now, jump in and show me!”

This time, Old Chen didn’t respond, but looked gloomily at the rushing water. The water in this underground river was completely different from normal underground rivers, where the flow is usually slower. But the water here could be described as surging waves. Even a goose feather falling in would surely be swept away immediately. With this speed of the current, even a swimming champion would be swept away by the waves; who would dare jump into this water?

On both sides of the underground river were stone embankments five or six meters wide, and the flat surface suggested they might be man-made. In the middle of the cave was an arched bridge stretching across the river, allowing people to walk from one side to the other. Otherwise, how could one cross this underground river?

Ye Qing and the others stood at the edge of the stone corridor and could just see that there was another stone corridor on the opposite stone wall, dark and mysterious, leading who knows where. On their side of the stone wall, it was filled with numerous stone corridors, meaning the one they had emerged from was just one of many!

Seeing this, Ye Qing took a deep breath. He understood now why no one had managed to enter the Tomb of Ghost Valley Master for so many years. Many must have reached the stone corridors on the other side, but after passing through, how to choose the right one remained a difficult issue. The stone wall on this side had nearly a hundred similar corridors. How could one know which corridor led to the Tomb of Ghost Valley Master?

Even if they chose the right stone corridor for the Gate of Life, they would be blocked by the stele at the end. According to Ye Qing’s speculation, since Guiguzi used that stele to block the exit, he believed it was sufficient to block the exit. Without absorbing the power of the Primal Mysterious Body, there was no way to push open that stele. So, with the stele guarding the entrance, no one could enter the Tomb of Ghost Valley Master from the Gate of Life!

”It seems that the stone corridor on that side is the way out!” Ye Qing pointed to the stone corridor on the opposite side.

The group’s thoughts aligned with Ye Qing’s, as there was only that one stone corridor on the opposite side, so it must be the exit.

”Then what are we waiting for? Let’s hurry over there!” Old Chen shouted excitedly, rushing first to the arched bridge.

Ye Qing and the others didn’t linger either, and they all headed to the arched bridge. By the time they reached the side of the bridge, Old Chen had already stepped on it, gesturing wildly as he walked to the opposite side. The rest followed onto the bridge, but before they reached the middle, Old Chen suddenly trembled, pointed to the water beside the bridge with a startled cry, and then his body went limp, rolling off the bridge.

Luckily, he had reached the high point of the bridge, directly rolling down along the slope and landing on the stone embankment of the opposite side.

However, his actions surprised everyone. What was wrong with Old Chen, walking just fine but suddenly screaming at the water and then collapsing. It seemed like he had fainted from fright. What on earth was in the water that could scare such a chatty, gluttonous old lech into fainting?

The others all turned to look at the river, and with one glance, their faces changed. There were several pale faces floating above the turbulent waters!

These were human faces, pale and swollen, just like waterlogged corpses. The water was too rapid to see if they had bodies, but these few pale floating faces were terrifying enough. These faces were even more horrifying than those in horror films. The key point was, submerged in the water, they looked just like water ghosts lurking below. No wonder Old Chen was terrified. Seeing this, even Wen’er shuddered, subconsciously stepping back in fright, not daring to look again.

It wasn’t only Wen’er; even Ye Qing, Fu Qingping, and the Seventh Elder’s faces paled. Such a scene was beyond anything they’d ever seen, and one look was enough to make them jump!

But before Ye Qing could react, Wen’er suddenly let out a scream from behind. Ye Qing quickly turned to see Wen’er falling backward off the arched bridge into the underground river below with a splash.

Ye Qing’s heart skipped a beat, and he hurried over to check on Wen’er’s situation below. Just then, Fu Qingping let out an angry shout behind him. Turning around, Ye Qing saw two pale figures grabbing Fu Qingping and the Seventh Elder, trying to drag them into the water.

The Seventh Elder, having no strength to resist, was hanging by Fu Qingping’s grip. Fu Qingping, having somewhat recovered his inner strength, was the reason both hadn’t fallen. But the two pale figures were determined to drag them into the water, making the scene even more frightening. Moreover, the faces of these two were precisely those pale faces floating in the water earlier. In other words, these two were among those Ye Qing saw in the water just before!

Were these people not corpses? But how could they float in such water? And they could attack as well; were they humans or ghosts?

A myriad of doubts swirled in Ye Qing’s mind. But this wasn’t the time to ponder these questions. Wen’er had fallen into the water, undoubtedly dragged down by these watery figures. Fu Qingping and the Seventh Elder wouldn’t last much longer in their current state, so Ye Qing had to quickly resolve the immediate crisis and then dive in to save Wen’er.

Fortunately, Ye Qing already had the Tianzhu Sword in hand. Seeing the situation, he immediately wielded it and rushed forward, intending to cut down the figure holding Fu Qingping.

Ye Qing took just one step forward, Tianzhu Sword ready to strike, when suddenly a splash from behind occurred, followed by a strong hand gripping his neck, pulling him back!
