Urban Martial Saint

In the darkness, the black shadow stood on the massive rock nearby, not answering the Wolf Monk’s question, but calmly observing the two of them, seemingly without any hostility.

The Wolf Monk had initially clenched his fists, yet after a brief stare-down with the shadow, he slowly relaxed.

”So it’s you!” The Wolf Monk let out a low exclamation, appearing to recognize the identity of the other.

Ye Qing hadn’t yet made out the appearance of this shadow, and naturally, he didn’t know who this shadow was. However, thinking about it, it must be a Peak Master, with strength surely not weak, otherwise it would be impossible to silently reach twenty meters from the Wolf Monk.

The shadow gestured to the Wolf Monk, signifying for them not to speak, and then pointed downward, implying for them to continue observing the situation below.

Ye Qing glanced at the Wolf Monk, seeing he had no intention of taking action, swallowed the words he initially intended to shout, and crouched down to keep watching the situation below.

Below, the people hadn’t yet realized there were others on the massive rock, and those few men were still intimidating Wang Yuntao, seemingly using psychological tactics to investigate whether he was the one who leaked the list. However, Wang Yuntao clearly had no idea about this matter, so regardless of how these men pressured him, he didn’t reveal any valuable information. Yet he was terribly frightened by these men, moaning constantly, each word carrying a pleading tone. Actually, he was the most baffled, as he truly did not know what was happening.

After about five minutes passed, these men saw they couldn’t extract valuable information from Wang Yuntao, so they knocked him out. Then, two men lifted Wang Yuntao and walked directly behind a massive rock.

Behind this massive rock was a cave, and the men carried Wang Yuntao inside; soon enough, they came out alone. Judging by this situation, the captive workers previously taken away were likely also held inside this cave.

Seeing Wang Yuntao carried away, the Wolf Monk turned his head towards the shadow on the massive rock nearby.

”So it was the Venerable’s men who took these people,” the Wolf Monk said, ”I wonder for what purpose the Venerable captured them?”

Actually, Ye Qing had vaguely guessed the shadow’s identity before, and hearing the Wolf Monk speak now, he was even more certain of the shadow’s identity. In this world, who else but the Purple Robe Lama could be called Venerable?

The Purple Robe Lama didn’t answer the Wolf Monk but casually stepped from that massive rock to this one. The whole process was as simple as striding through a garden, yet between the two massive rocks was a gap of at least five-six meters. This step taken by the Purple Robe Lama, equivalent to crossing five-six meters, was truly awe-inspiring.

Standing on this massive rock, Ye Qing naturally got a clear look at his appearance, indeed confirming he was the Purple Robe Lama.

In truth, seeing the Purple Robe Lama, Ye Qing essentially understood what was going on. It seemed that the Purple Robe Lama had found out about the killing of those children and had started investigating the matter. The workers he captured all knew the children’s addresses; he was certainly investigating who leaked this matter.

Honestly, meeting the Purple Robe Lama like this, Ye Qing felt very embarrassed. After all, he had promised the Purple Robe Lama to keep this secret. But now, with such events unfolding, so many kids killed, he really didn’t know how to explain it to the Purple Robe Lama.

Despite this, Ye Qing stood up, steeling himself and said, ”Venerable, this matter resulted from my own inadequacy. No matter how you punish me, Mr. Ye has no complaints. But these employees are innocent, I hope the Venerable shows leniency, and let them go!”

The Purple Robe Lama glanced at Ye Qing, revealing no emotion in his eyes, leaving uncertain how angry he truly was, which made Ye Qing even more concerned.

The Wolf Monk looked at Ye Qing and then at the Purple Robe Lama, saying, ”Venerable, I’m aware of the issues between you and Ye Qing. I believe in Ye Qing’s character; he certainly wouldn’t deliberately harm these kids. This matter surely has someone behind it, trying to provoke a conflict between you and Ye Qing.”

The Purple Robe Lama finally took a gentle breath, looking at Ye Qing and said, ”Last time, I already said that the previous incident I could pretend hadn’t happened. However, I also told you that no matter what, keep that list safe, don’t let it fall into others’ hands. But you failed to do so.”

Ye Qing replied awkwardly, ”This matter resulted from my inadequacy, whatever punishment the Venerable wants to impose, Mr. Ye accepts freely!”

”Even though you failed, I had no intention to trouble you. Because you’ve had enough worries dealing with the Corpse Ghost Dragon, leaving you little mind for the orphanage, which I understand,” the Purple Robe Lama said softly, ”Actually, when I came to Shenchuan City last time, I already knew about those children’s murders. But I didn’t find you because I trust your character.”

Ye Qing had thought the Purple Robe Lama would lash out at him, yet didn’t expect him to say such words, which warmed his heart.

”Thank you, Venerable!” Ye Qing replied sincerely.

”You needn’t thank me,” the Purple Robe Lama said, ”My not seeking you doesn’t mean these children’s matters can be left at that. The consecutive killings clearly indicate someone targeting our Brahmanism Sect. So, I must thoroughly investigate this ordeal. Ye Qing, I hope you don’t intervene in this matter anymore, nor interfere with what we’re doing!”

”This…” Ye Qing looked at the cave behind him, furrowing his brows slightly. The Purple Robe Lama was essentially telling him to leave the employees’ affairs alone.

If it were other matters, Ye Qing certainly wouldn’t meddle. But these employees are orphanage people, mostly innocent ones. Now the Purple Robe Lama captures them, not only causing panic in the orphanage but mainly keeping these innocents confined felt unjust. How could Ye Qing just stand by?

”Venerable Purple Robe, the people you’ve captured should have no connection to this matter,” Ye Qing said, ”Don’t you think of sending them back? They’re innocent, and they don’t even know martial arts. Keeping them confined like this is unfair to them, isn’t it?”

”Sorry, these people can’t be released for now!” The Purple Robe Lama shook his head resolutely, ”I need to thoroughly investigate this matter, so these people must temporarily be held here.”

”Why?” Ye Qing asked in surprise, ”Didn’t your men just discern that they know nothing about this and have nothing to do with it?”

”I know they have nothing to do with it, but having no connection doesn’t mean they can be released,” the Purple Robe Lama replied to Ye Qing, ”Keeping them here isn’t about imposing on them but applying pressure on those remaining in the orphanage!”

”What do you mean?” Ye Qing was even more puzzled; the Purple Robe Lama’s words sounded somewhat odd.

”This list surely leaked out from within the orphanage, which means there’s definitely an insider in your orphanage staff. Whoever leaked this secret, knowing this, surely harbors guilt,” the Purple Robe Lama said, ”By capturing these staff but not releasing them, it gives rise to misconceptions, making them suspect these people have already met with misfortune. In turn, the guilty one will become very frightened, trying all ways to flee. We’re watching for that guilty one to make a mistake!”

”I see,” Ye Qing suddenly realized, saying, ”But isn’t what you’re doing causing everyone at the orphanage to be scared, not just the guilty one? Everyone there is panicked; many are beginning to take leave, even resigning. Venerable, with so many wanting to leave, how can you identify the truly guilty one?”

”I have my methods,” the Purple Robe Lama replied, ”I’ve been closely monitoring those at the orphanage recently, and I’m keenly observing their situation closely. A guilty person can’t escape my scrutiny.”

Ye Qing frowned slightly, finding the Purple Robe Lama’s words somewhat arrogant. Even top-level psychologists wouldn’t dare say such a thing. Could he determine who harbors guilt by just observing them?

But the Wolf Monk appeared serious, saying, ”It seems the Venerable’s Calm Heart Zen is completed!”

The Purple Robe Lama said, ”Though not perfected, it’s enough to discern a person’s psychological fluctuations.”

”Calm Heart Zen?” Ye Qing was surprised, hearing the Wolf Monk and Purple Robe Lama discuss this; it seemed this martial art had the miraculous ability to read minds?

The Wolf Monk explained, ”It’s a secret technique of Brahmanism Sect. Once completed, it can sense a person’s heart rate, specifically sensing psychological fluctuations.”

”Such a wondrous martial art exists?” Ye Qing was astonished, finally understanding why the Purple Robe Lama spoke as he did. It seemed he truly could discern who harbored guilt!

”Brahmanism Sect is ranked as Tianzhu’s foremost sect after Dalin Temple, holding many remaining secret techniques from Dalin Temple, including many extraordinary techniques. Among them, Calm Heart Zen is an outstanding one, which requires great fortitude to master,” the Wolf Monk said to the Purple Robe Lama, ”Unexpectedly, the Venerable mastered Calm Heart Zen; it’s truly a fortune for the Buddhist Sect!”

The Purple Robe Lama waved his hand, saying, ”I haven’t grasped much of Calm Heart Zen’s marvels, able only to vaguely judge a person’s thoughts.”
