The little girl carefully wrapped Ye Qing all over with newspaper to shield him from the cold wind. Although it wasn’t as warm as Ye Qing’s clothes, at such a chilly time, being able to wrap up in a layer of newspaper indeed made it much warmer.

Feeling the warmth on his body, Ye Qing finally let out a long sigh of relief. He looked at the little girl standing in front of him, curiously watching him, and smiled at her.

”Thank you,” Ye Qing said softly.

The little girl didn’t seem to understand Ye Qing’s words or maybe she understood his expression. She waved at him, uttered a few words, and pointed in the direction where her siblings had just left.

Ye Qing didn’t know what she meant exactly, but judging from her expression, she seemed to be apologizing for her brother and sister. Ye Qing smiled and said, ”Don’t worry, I don’t blame them. Your brother is just taking care of you all. He’s very brave, and I admire him a lot!”

The little girl obviously didn’t understand what Ye Qing was talking about. But at that moment, Ye Qing’s stomach made a loud grumbling sound, as he was unbearably hungry.

Ye Qing felt a bit embarrassed since he hadn’t eaten anything for more than ten hours since last night. Moreover, after fighting with the Corpse Ghost Dragon and soaking in the water all night, his energy was utterly depleted, and he was starving.

The little girl also heard the growling from Ye Qing’s stomach. She seemed to recall something, waved at Ye Qing, and suddenly turned around to run. Not long after, she returned, holding a piece of cornbread, followed by a native dog and three puppies.

The little girl ran to Ye Qing’s side and immediately handed the cornbread to him. On closer inspection, Ye Qing saw that it had already started to mold, but at that moment, he couldn’t care about that. He took the cornbread and wolfed it down. Although moldy, at that time, it tasted better than the most delicious delicacy to him. Besides, Ye Qing had previously eaten tree bark and roots when confronting enemies in the jungle, so what was a moldy cornbread to him?

The little girl stood by, watching Ye Qing eat the cornbread, her face full of joy. At the same time, she instructed the native dog to crawl to Ye Qing’s side. Initially, Ye Qing didn’t understand what she meant, but when the dog lay beside him, its fur pressed against his body, spreading warmth throughout him. Then Ye Qing understood that the little girl wanted the dog to help warm him.

This made Ye Qing feel even more grateful, not expecting such thoughtfulness from a little girl despite her age. How could she be so good at taking care of people at such a young age, and what had she gone through?

The native dog was still somewhat wary of Ye Qing, but under the little girl’s command, unwillingly lay by Ye Qing’s side. Seeing the native dog beside Ye Qing, the three puppies also crawled over, wandering around him. A playful little black dog even climbed onto Ye Qing’s chest, its shiny black eyes staring intently at him, appearing quite adorable.

After eating that piece of cornbread, Ye Qing felt slightly more energetic. He chuckled softly, reaching out to play with the little one and gently stroked the native dog’s back.

The native dog, feeling Ye Qing’s touch, shivered noticeably, its ears perked up. But seeing that Ye Qing didn’t grab its tail again, it calmed down a little, its ears drooping, lazily lying beside him.

Ye Qing smiled faintly, turned to the little girl standing next to him, and asked again, ”Kid, where are your mom and dad?”

Upon hearing the words ’mom and dad’, the little girl’s body obviously trembled, clearly understanding those words. She looked up at Ye Qing, her eyes instantly reddening, tears welling up.

Ye Qing didn’t expect the little girl to be so sensitive about the topic and quickly asked, ”What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”

The little girl didn’t answer Ye Qing, merely sat beside him, sobbing softly. It was apparent that her parents were a sorrowful memory for her.

Ye Qing sat beside her, watching the little girl, and sighed lightly. His intuition told him that these three kids might not even have family.

After a short while, footsteps approached from afar. Ye Qing looked up to see the older boy and girl running over again.

The older boy wore an angry expression, while the older girl was cheerful. After running over, the older boy tossed the coat onto Ye Qing, gesturing nonstop towards the little girl, speaking words Ye Qing couldn’t understand.

The older girl ran to the little girl, embracing and lightly patting her, seemingly comforting her.

Seeing the three kids like this, Ye Qing slowly leaned against the wall and sat up a bit, saying, ”Take the coat and wear it. Just help me make a call, and in the future, you’ll have plenty of clothes to wear.”

The big boy completely ignored him, gesturing to the little girl for a while. Finally, the little girl broke into a smile amid her tears, snuggling affectionately against the big boy’s arm with her head.

The big boy also gave a wry smile, as if he had no way of dealing with this little sister, and he reached out to pat her head before turning to leave with her. But this time, the little girl pulled him again, turned to look at Ye Qing, gestured to the big boy a few times, and it was unclear what it meant.

The big boy frowned at Ye Qing, as if pondering something. However, the little girl kept gesturing and talking, with the big girl assisting nearby. In the end, with no other choice, the big boy nodded before turning around and running off first.

The two girls were quite happy, standing at the intersection looking on from afar, seemingly waiting for the big boy to return. Meanwhile, Ye Qing was utterly confused, not knowing what had just happened.

The big boy hadn’t run far when he returned, pushing a small four-wheeled cart. This cart was quite worn out, likely abandoned by someone here.

The big boy pushed the little cart next to Ye Qing, waved at him, signaling for Ye Qing to climb onto the cart. From the looks of it, he was planning to take Ye Qing away from here.

This made Ye Qing very happy; if he could leave here, meet some people outside, and make a phone call to return, he’d be saved. So, without hesitation, Ye Qing supported himself with his right arm and sat on the little cart.

The big boy used force from behind, while the two girls helped, the three of them working together to push the little cart, maneuvering through a few curves, passing piles of garbage, and finally arriving at a deep pile of trash. At this place, there was a narrow shack, with some living tools placed outside, indicating it was probably their residence.

Being brought here, Ye Qing was dumbfounded. Initially, he wanted to leave this area, this range, go outside to find someone and make a call. But instead, these three people had brought him deep into the pile of trash, a place where it’s even harder for anyone to pass by.

Ye Qing hurriedly waved at the three children, signaling for them to take him out. However, where would the three children possibly understand his gestures? They looked at each other, and eventually, the big girl ran to nearby, scooped a bowl of water from a bucket, and handed it to Ye Qing, thinking he was thirsty.

Ye Qing was helpless; he knew that no matter how much he gestured, it was impossible to make them understand. But for now, it’s okay, at least he can stay alive here. Rest for a while, wait for his body to recover a bit, then go outside himself to ask for help.

Looking around, Ye Qing suddenly discovered there was a bed deep inside the shack. And most critically, there was someone lying on that bed. From afar, they looked like an adult.

Seeing an adult, Ye Qing instantly felt a surge of energy, shouting twice. But the person on the bed made no movement as if they didn’t understand what he said.

At this moment, the big boy came over, blocking Ye Qing. He pointed at the adult and then used extremely awkward language to say: ”Grandpa... grandpa... sick... sick...”

Ye Qing didn’t expect this big boy could speak? He was very surprised and said, ”You... you can speak?”

The big boy was again bewildered, still only saying the words grandpa and sick, nothing else, and he didn’t even understand Ye Qing’s words. Judging by the situation, it’s not that they can’t speak, it’s just that no one taught them how to. Plus, they might have few interactions with outsiders, so they entirely couldn’t understand other people’s words.

Ye Qing sighed lightly. The situation of these three children made his heart ache even more. He sat on the little cart, slowly moving closer to the bed in the shack, wanting to see what illness the elderly person had.

However, when Ye Qing got a little closer, he suddenly smelled a stench. This stench was completely different from the trash heap’s odor; it was a smell of decay.

This situation startled Ye Qing, and he hurriedly approached the bed. The closer he got, the stronger the stench became, making Ye Qing’s heart race.

Finally, reaching the bedside, Ye Qing saw the person on the bed at close distance. It was an old man in his seventies or eighties, looking very aged, and extremely thin, resembling skin wrapped around bones, from afar resembling a skeleton.

Most critically, this old man was lying on the bed without a sound. His skin had not a hint of luster, even with a bluish-black hue to it. His face was pale, with no trace of blood, no warmth at all. The odor emitted from him made anyone nearby want to retch. Were it not for the surrounding garbage heap’s stench, this smell of decay would have long been discovered.

With trepidation, Ye Qing lifted the blanket covering the man slightly, exposing his neck. Looking closely, shockingly, there were signs of decay on the man’s neck!

Indeed, Ye Qing’s assumption was correct. The grandpa, as described by these three children as sick, had actually long since died!
