”What? What? What?” Hou San immediately perked up, not even caring about his cards anymore, and ran over, asking, ”What did you say? You want to invite my big brother to work at the hospital? Is that true?”

Lin Guoqiang smiled and said, ”Recently, the hospital found a batch of doctors lacking medical ethics, and dismissed a large number of them. Now the hospital is short of capable doctors, and we may need to recruit from the public. I talked with Mr. Hou Da yesterday, and in terms of professional standards and knowledge, he has no issues. So, I wanted to ask if Mr. Hou Da would be willing to come and consult at our hospital for a high salary.”

”Willing? Of course, he’s willing, definitely willing!” Hou San shouted excitedly. He knew his brother best. After Hou Da finished his medical studies, what he wanted most was to work in a hospital. However, due to lack of connections and money, he was pushed out and could only open a small clinic outside. These past few years, he’s been somewhat disheartened. Now suddenly there was this opportunity, and even Hou San was excited for him.

Seeing Hou San so excited, Ye Qing nodded and said, ”If Director Lin thinks his abilities are fit for the hospital, I have no objections. Of course, we still need to ask Mr. Hou Da himself!”

Hou San waved his hand and said, ”No need to ask, I can decide for him, absolutely no problem!”

Lin Guoqiang laughed and said, ”We still should ask the person in question, Hou, could you trouble yourself to ask him for me?”

”No problem!” Hou San slammed down his cards and hobbled out.

Chen Jun shook his poker cards and yelled, ”Hey, finish the game before you go!”

”Damn it!” Hou San flipped Chen Jun the bird without even looking back as he walked away. For him, Hou Da becoming a doctor at the hospital was the real deal.

”Motherfucker, that’s just poor sportsmanship!” Chen Jun, Da Fei, and the others looked at each other and said, ”The cards are dealt, and he runs off, how are we supposed to play?”

Da Fei turned his head and said, ”Mad Dog, come play a couple of rounds!”

Mad Dog shrugged and said, ”I don’t know how.”

”Shit, you don’t even know how to play cards, and you’re still trying to be in the underworld?” Da Fei grumbled discontentedly.

Seeing the situation, Lin Guoqiang picked up the money from the bed and said, ”Come on, I’ll join you guys. How much are we playing for? Twenty yuan minimum? That’s not small at all!”

Lin Guoqiang started playing poker with Da Fei, Chen Jun and a few hooligans, turning a perfectly good hospital room into a place of entertainment. He did this all to please Ye, otherwise, he would never have paid Chen Jun and these hoodlums any mind.

Hou San ran downstairs and after about fifteen minutes, he finally brought Hou Da up. Hou Da’s expression was clearly still one of loss; after all, losing a child before it’s even born would upset anyone. However, the opportunity to work at the hospital had boosted his spirits a little bit.

”Director Lin, I brought my big brother here. You can ask him yourself,” Hou San announced loudly as he entered, ”He agrees, so there’s definitely no problem.”

”Alright, then it’s settled. Prepare your personal documents and bring them to me tomorrow, and I’ll make arrangements for you,” Lin Guoqiang said without turning his head, having lost five to six hundred yuan in the ten minutes or so of playing, he was already deep in the game.

Hou San looked at Lin Guoqiang and then at Ye Qing beside him. Finally, with a sense of resignation, he said to Hou Da, ”Big brother, then do as Director Lin said and bring your documents over tomorrow.”

”That’s fine,” Hou Da paused, then said, ”Thank you, Director Lin.”

”No need to thank me, no need at all. We’re all family here, just come to me if you need anything,” Lin Guoqiang still didn’t turn around, holding three cards underneath and yelling, ”Give me a big Joker! Just a big Joker would do!”

As the cards were revealed, everyone around burst into laughter; Lin Guoqiang had three low cards, making his eyes nearly pop out with frustration.

”What the hell? Why is it that every time I call landlord, this happens?” Lin Guoqiang muttered as he picked up the cards, his face looking gloomy as he started to lose money again.

Hou San walked over and advised Lin Guoqiang from behind, ”Gambling is all about luck. If your hand is cold, just take a break. Why push it?”

”Why didn’t you say that earlier...” Lin Guoqiang said with a sigh; he really was unlucky with cards today.

Over there, watching his brothers having a good time, Ye Qing also felt happy. He called Hou Da over to sit by his side and casually inquired about his situation.

Hou Da had also been injured last time, but it wasn’t serious and now he could walk and work without any problems. However, the internal injury he sustained needed to be recuperated, which takes time. As for his wife, she was almost ready to be discharged from the hospital. But Lin Guoqiang decided to keep her in the hospital for better care. And this care didn’t require Hou Da to pay; after all, He Biao had been captured, and Lin Guoqiang would claim all the hospital expenses in the court from He Biao as medical compensation. Naturally, it was best to recover fully in the hospital. Lin Guoqiang even arranged for a full body checkup for Hou Da and his wife to cure all the minor ailments as well, since He Biao was footing the bill anyway.

Hou Da’s mood had recovered a lot, but it would still darken whenever he spoke about that child. Being able to work as a doctor in the hospital again naturally improved his spirits. And when he heard that Gu Xianping was going back to teaching and also got an apartment, he was really happy for him. After all, Gu Xianping had been very kind to him back in the day!

After chatting with Hou Da for a while, Ye Qing handed over a bank card to him to pass on to Gu Xianping. The card had over a hundred thousand yuan in it, which Gu Xianping gave to Ye Qing for Lin Tianyou’s treatment fees. However, since Tian You didn’t charge, naturally the money should be returned to him. But Ye Qing knew Gu Xianping’s temperament; if he tried to return it personally, Gu Xianping would definitely not accept it. So Ye Qing could only ask Hou Da to return the card to him. In this way, even if Gu Xianping came to look for Ye Qing, Ye Qing would already be in Shenchuan City, and Gu Xianping would have no choice but to accept it.

Hou Da took the bank card, fell silent for a while, then said in a low voice, ”Ye Qing, I heard from Hou San that you’re taking him to develop in Shenchuan City?”

Ye nodded and said, ”I have a few places in Shenchuan City that need our own people to take care of. If Hou San is available, it would be best if he could help me look after these places.”

A glimmer of happiness flashed in Hou Da’s eyes, and he said, ”My brother is good in all aspects, just a bit unruly. Ye, I see that he really listens to you now. I would also like him to follow you, so he can do some serious work instead of causing trouble every day. Thank you for taking him out. In Shenchuan City, if he doesn’t obey, don’t be polite, just give him a good beating.”

Hou San turned his head and said with dissatisfaction, ”Big Brother, I’m already in my twenties, can’t you give me some face?”

Hou Da retorted indignantly, ”You don’t even have a wife, what face do you need?”

Hou San was left stunned and speechless, his mouth agape for a while before he indignantly said, ”Damn, I’ll go to Shenchuan City and find a wife to bring back, then we’ll see what you have to say!”

Hou Da said, ”Even if you bring back a son, you’re still my brother, and you have to listen to what I say!”

Completely at a loss for words, Hou San turned his head and said, ”Let’s play cards!”

Ye Qing smiled lightly and said, ”Big Brother Hou, don’t worry. If they go to Shenchuan City with me, they’re my brothers, and I will definitely take good care of them!”

Hou Da said with a smile of relief, ”With those words from you, I can rest assured!”

”Come on? Such crappy cards again? Can’t we even play properly?”

The sudden exclamation from Lin Guoqiang immediately brought laughter to the whole ward. That guy had been so unlucky tonight, he hadn’t won a single hand!

After playing for more than two hours, Lin Guoqiang ended up teaming with Hou San and lost more than two thousand yuan, which was divided up by the gangsters. However, these gangsters were quite generous; having played with Lin Guoqiang for two hours, everyone had a lot of fun. It was already past midnight when Chen Jun, who had won the most, proposed to go out for some street food. So Ye, Da Fei Mad Dog, along with Lin Guoqiang and the four of them who were uninjured, helped the wounded ones out of the hospital and found a nearby night market stall to sit down. Mutton skewers, large kidneys, beer, and the like came one after another, and Lin Guoqiang could even eat with everyone, which made them all quite happy.

After three rounds of drinks, everyone became even closer. Da Fei sat at the table, animatedly telling the others about the things that happened to Ye Qing in Shenchuan City. Chen Jun and Hou San and the others didn’t know exactly what Ye Qing had encountered in Shenchuan City. After hearing Da Fei’s description, everyone was shocked and had even more respect for Ye.

”Let me tell you, following Brother Ye is absolutely the right choice!” Da Fei used his chopsticks to pry open a bottle of beer and said, ”I’ve been in Shenchuan City for so many years and never really admired anyone. But for Brother Ye, my admiration comes from the bottom of my heart. Not to mention anything else, just take the orphanage that Brother Ye funded with his own money. There are so many wealthy bosses in Shenchuan City; who would be willing to do such a thing? Those bastards could squeeze out enough from between their teeth to feed so many children, but they would rather waste their money than do a single good deed. Unlike Brother Ye who runs those shops just to support those kids!”

”Alright, cut it out,” Ye interrupted as he passed a bottle of beer to Da Fei, ”Come on, let’s drink up!”

Da Fei took the beer, looked at the full bottle in his hand, and asked, ”Brother, are you trying to drink me to death?”

Ye responded, ”It’s just to make you talk less.”

The crowd burst into laughter, and Da Fei scratched his head and said, ”I’m just telling the truth, right? The guys are about to head to Shenchuan City, and I’ve got to let them know what’s going on there, don’t I?”

Hou San said, ”Forget the truth, Fei, when we get there, can you help us find girlfriends?”

Everyone burst into laughter again, and as they were about to tease him, a sudden roar came from a distance, and they all turned their heads to look.
