”Mr. Ye, I apologize,” Zhang Tianli said, wiping the sweat from his forehead as he approached Ye Qing with a forced smile. ”I misunderstood you earlier, and I’ve confirmed that you have nothing to do with this case. Also, Mr. Feng is not involved in this theft case either. You can go back first, and I will give you a satisfactory response!”

The turn of events stunned everyone, and even Qin Jing stared at Ye Qing, her face full of disbelief.

It was common knowledge that Feng Jianshe had stolen the gold from the factory, so why was it that in Zhang Tianli’s words, it suddenly became a case of Hou Renkang framing Feng Jianshe?

Feng Jianshe was also startled. He looked at Ye Qing and then at Zhang Tianli and asked, ”Can... can I go back now?”

”Don’t worry, you’re not involved anymore,” Zhang Tianli said, trying to make his smile appear friendlier, fearing he might offend Ye Qing.

Ye Qing didn’t say much; he just turned around, helped Feng Jianshe, and left the mining area. Just as he was about to get into the car, he suddenly turned his head to look at Qin Jing and said, ”Jing, come with us!”

”Damn, can you stop calling me that!” Qin Jing complained embarrassingly as she walked to the car, saying, ”Where to? I’m still working here!”

”Come with me to the city; I’ll get you a better job,” Ye Qing said, glancing at the mining area. ”It’s definitely much better than here!”

”Damn, say no more, let’s go!” Qin Jing immediately opened the car door and got in, decisively.

Ye Qing helped Feng Jianshe into the car and drove away from the factory area.

The people in the factory watched as the vehicle drove far away, and only then did they come back to their senses, turning to look at Hou Renkang whose head was bloodied from Zhang Tianli’s beating.

Hou Renkang had already been helped up and was using tissue paper to wipe the blood off his face, looking utterly disheveled.

”Zhang Tianli, you madman, you madman!” Hou Renkang kept shouting angrily, ”I won’t let you get away with this, I absolutely won’t let you get away with this!”

Zhang Tianli suddenly turned to look at him, and Hou Renkang jumped in fright. Zhang Tianli walked over, and Hou Renkang kept backing away, hurriedly saying, ”You... don’t come any closer, I’m going to report you to the county... ”

”Shut up!” Zhang Tianli shouted impatiently, then waved at the people next to Hou Renkang, signaling them to get lost.

These people immediately scurried off. It was a joke to defy the chief of the police station; Hou Renkang was already beaten up like this, and they definitely did not want to end up disabled.

”Hey, hey, hey, where are you going? Come back!” Hou Renkang yelled, but none of those cronies dared to come back.

Zhang Tianli walked over to Hou Renkang and reached out his hand, causing Hou Renkang to shiver in fright.

”Don’t be scared, I won’t hit you!” Zhang Tianli patted Hou Renkang on the shoulder and said, ”Old Hou, we are old friends, right? Do you think I would harm you?”

Hou Renkang angrily said, ”You... if you weren’t harming me, why would you hit me?”

”I hit you to help you!” Zhang Tianli sighed and said, ”If I hadn’t hit you today, you would be in more than just a bit of pain.”

”What do you mean?” Hou Renkang asked, puzzled.

”Do you know what that man’s identity is?” Zhang Tianli asked.

”What... what identity?” Hou Renkang turned to look at Ye Qing’s car, his heart suddenly filled with fear. Anyone who could drive such a car surely wasn’t an ordinary person.

”Let me put it this way, he is a good friend of Director Huang from our city’s police department!” Zhang Tianli said gravely, ”Director Wang called just now and scolded me thoroughly for his sake. Director Wang is so anxious, do you think his identity is simple? If this matter doesn’t blow up, it’s fine, but if it does, just a word from Director Huang, and both our lives could be ruined!”

”Ah?” Hou Renkang’s eyes widened in shock as he exclaimed, ”He... he is Director Huang’s friend? How is that possible? How is that possible?”

”Don’t worry about whether it’s possible or not; it’s best if you keep this to yourself and never bring it up again. Otherwise, if the county really investigates you, I can’t help you!” Zhang Tianli said.

Hou Renkang was truly scared; as the director of the gold mine, his hands were indeed not clean. If the county were to investigate him, he would definitely be doomed.

Hou Renkang whispered, ”Old Zhang, just now… just now, thank you…”

Look, he was beaten up and still had to say thank you. If Feng Jianshe were here, it would certainly have been quite a shock!

”We have been friends for so many years, your business is my business, no need for thank yous.” Zhang Tianli waved his hand, helping Hou Renkang tidy up a bit. At that moment, a few policemen came in, supporting each other, led by Zhao Bin.

After Ye Qing left, he directly told Zhao Bin and the others to get lost. Zhao Bin saw that Feng Jianshe had returned unharmed, and thought Zhang Tianli had let them off. He hurried back wanting to report Ye Qing’s assault on the police.

Seeing Zhang Tianli, Zhao Bin shouted from afar, ”Chief Zhang, Chief Zhang, something big has happened!”

”What’s happened?” Zhang Tianli turned to look, and seeing their condition, asked oddly, ”What’s going on?”

”Chief Zhang, didn’t you tell us to catch that Feng Jianshe? I went to their house, and I was beaten up by Feng Jianshe’s nephew!” Zhao Bin held his head and said, ”This is assaulting an officer! Chief Zhang, such people can’t be let go just because they returned gold and surrendered themselves!”

Zhang Tianli furrowed his brows, walked up to Zhao Bin, and seeing the state of the several policemen, suddenly started slapping Zhao Bin, stunning him.

”Chief Zhang, what... what’s going on?” Zhao Bin asked in surprise.

Zhang Tianli shouted angrily, ”You’d better remember this: don’t you ever mention Feng Jianshe’s family again. Otherwise, I’ll be the first to fire you!”

Zhao Bin was completely stunned; he had no idea what had happened or what Zhang Tianli’s current mood was. Just now, he had staged a self-harm trick, beating up Hou Renkang, and it took a lot of effort to finally send Ye Qing, the big Buddha, away. And then Zhao Bin came back, shouting about catching Ye Qing; how could he not be furious?

Hou Renkang, reveling in Zhao Bin’s misfortune, said, ”I remember you’re related to Feng Jianshe, aren’t you? How did it turn out like this?”

”What relation? I have nothing to do with them!” Zhao Bin immediately denied any connection, saying, ”I didn’t know about his stealing gold. Moreover, that I personally led the team to catch him proves I have nothing to do with this matter!”

Hou Renkang said, ”Oh, so then you aren’t related to Ye Qing either?”

Zhao Bin said, ”Of course not. What’s he to me? I’ve never even met this guy; I don’t know where he came from, but he started claiming relations recklessly!”

Hou Renkang couldn’t help but smile coldly, thinking: Kid, you’re separating yourself this cleanly, I’ll see how you’ll take back these words later!

Ye Qing returned to the village, picked up the entire family of his aunt, and left the village. Feng Xuehua was still in a daze, still concerned about Zhao Bin wanting a divorce. That’s how women are; if they rely too much on a man, they lose their own lives and opinions, gradually becoming a man’s accessory, and she was just like that now!

Back in the county town, Ye Changwen, seeing his aunt whom he hadn’t seen for many years, was extremely happy. Hearing about what had happened at home, Ye Changwen was also furious, repeatedly scolding Zhao Bin’s heartlessness.

Over the years, Ye Qing’s family hadn’t had much contact with his aunt’s family, after all, their lives were hard. They couldn’t take care of their own lives, let alone care for others. But now, with Ye Qing’s family situation finally improved, seeing the plight of his aunt’s family, they naturally wanted to help.

That evening, Ye Qing arranged a full table to welcome his aunt’s family, and also invited Old Fifth Yang. Discussing arranging work for Feng Jianshe and Feng Xuehua, Old Fifth Yang was the best person to talk to.

Xu Changzhi and Huang Feiming were called to a meeting with several senior leaders of the county in the afternoon, and after last night’s event, many had already inquired about Xu Changzhi’s identity. Under the earnest invitation of these county leaders, Xu Changzhi found it hard to refuse, so he had to attend the banquet. Thus, only Old Fifth Yang came that evening.

Old Fifth Yang, now having a very good relationship with Ye Qing, heard Ye Qing’s request, and immediately thumped his chest, saying, ”This little thing, leave it to me. I might not arrange high-end jobs, but I assure you, their livelihood will definitely be no problem.”

In the end, Old Fifth Yang, considering the situations of Feng Jianshe and Feng Xuehua, arranged jobs for each of them. Feng Jianshe was placed by Old Fifth Yang in the New District construction project department to guard the equipment. The job was very simple and not at all physically demanding, yet it had a high salary, over three thousand a month, enough to support his family.

As for Feng Xuehua, her skills were limited, so Old Fifth Yang arranged for her to do purchasing work in his own restaurant. The salary wasn’t high, just over one thousand a month, but such work depended not on the salary. Purchasing, a venture with ample kickbacks. Given the large demand for materials at Old Fifth Yang’s restaurant, those who wanted to sell materials would offer rebates to the purchasing staff. Even an honest person could make a few thousand yuan a month. Of course, the job was somewhat arduous, requiring her to get up early every day to buy supplies. However, when Feng Xuehua was at home, she also had to get up before dawn to work the fields, which was much harder than this. So, this bit of hardship was nothing at all. All things considered, Old Fifth Yang had done his utmost for Ye Qing’s relatives.

Feng Xuehua had always thought that finding a job would be difficult, but Old Fifth Yang had solved it so easily, she could hardly believe it. It wasn’t until Old Fifth Yang handed her one thousand yuan as her first month’s salary that she came back to her senses, overwhelmed with joy.

Having arrived in the county town today, she had been in a daze throughout. After divorcing Zhao Bin, she didn’t know how she would survive. But the job Old Fifth Yang gave her provided security for her future life, and instantly kindled her will to live. Now, she seemed to suddenly have confidence and hope for her future life, her eyes sparkling much more brightly!
