The Rebirth of the Fierce Little Cute Girl

Chapter 245: Chapter 244: Familiar Face

Old Mrs. Song was also fuming, thinking this god-granddaughter must be here just to annoy her. What about ’family scandals should not be exposed’? She is not a member of the Song family. ”Mo Yiyi, you...”

However, before Old Mrs. Song could finish, she was directly interrupted by Old Mrs. Gu.

Old Mrs. Gu looked at everyone present with an imposing air and said, ”I see I’m not welcome at this birthday banquet today, so you all enjoy your meal.” With that, she pulled Yiyi and left.

Seeing Old Mrs. Gu defend her, Yiyi had a slight smile on her face and obediently followed her out, ignoring the expressions of those present.

”Mo Yiyi, stop right there.”

Shu Yunfang shouted loudly from behind. If she really let Yiyi leave, the previous words would be hard to explain, and who knows what others would think of her.

But Yiyi certainly didn’t pay attention to Shu Yunfang; she followed closely behind Old Mrs. Gu and left the Ding family.

When Old Mrs. Gu took Yiyi back home, she was utterly furious.

”It’s outrageous! That old hag Chen Meilian must have done it on purpose today. Our Tingyu doesn’t like her granddaughter, yet she brazenly announced some marriage proposal between our families in front of everyone during the birthday banquet. Isn’t this clearly an attempt to force me? Yiyi, don’t worry, Grandma will protect you. You and Tingyu will be fine; these wicked plans won’t succeed.”

Seeing the furious look on the old lady’s face calmed Yiyi’s previously angry mood.

”Grandma, let’s not be upset anymore, especially since you’ve already made it clear. So, they surely won’t bring up the idea of marriage between the families again. Besides, Brother Tingyu likes me, and I like him. We’ll definitely be together, and Shu Yunfang has no chance.”

Seeing Yiyi unaffected and still full of confidence, Old Mrs. Gu couldn’t help but smile.

”You’re right. You and Tingyu will indeed be fine. Once you’re of age, you should hasten to get married. But today, that old bat Chen Meilian reminded me that, even though you can’t hold a wedding now, you can first get engaged. Then we’ll see who has anything to say.”

Yiyi was a bit stunned by this.

She hadn’t expected Old Mrs. Gu to suddenly have such an idea. But after today’s incident, she thought that getting engaged might not be a bad idea; at least it would leave others no room to argue.

However, thinking of Yu Qiulan’s attitude today, Yiyi’s expression showed some hesitation.

”Grandma, it seems Auntie may be opposed to me and Tingyu. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have spoken ambiguously today.”

Marriage is a matter involving both families, so if she were to get engaged to Gu Tingyu, his mother’s attitude would indeed be important.

”Don’t worry about her. She gave us her word, and yet she turned around and acted like she doesn’t know you. In the future, matters regarding you and Tingyu will be handled by Grandpa and me, so you needn’t worry about your future mother-in-law.”

Speaking of Yu Qiulan, Old Mrs. Gu was also somewhat annoyed.

She knew what her eldest daughter-in-law valued, but did she not think of her own son? Was she really going to have Tingyu marry a woman he did not like for power and influence? She couldn’t understand what that woman was thinking as a mother.

Hearing Old Mrs. Gu’s words, Yiyi stopped overthinking.

On the other side, after Old Mrs. Gu left with Yiyi, the Ding family’s hall fell silent. Everyone turned to look at Mrs. Ding but said nothing.

Yu Qiulan’s face was flushed red, looking very displeased.

She really hadn’t expected her mother-in-law would humiliate Mrs. Ding in front of so many people because of Mo Yiyi. Wouldn’t this create a rift between the Gu and Ding families in the future?

Standing at the front, Ding Yating looked at Yu Qiulan with some doubt and asked, ”The girl following behind your mother-in-law just now, is she Tingyu’s companion?”

Hearing her friend’s words, Yu Qiulan managed a weak smile and said, ”Like I said earlier, they haven’t even gotten engaged yet, so how could she be a companion?”

Ding Yating did not ask further after hearing her, though she still looked puzzled. She felt the girl seemed familiar, but she was sure it was the first time she’d seen her. After all, she hadn’t paid attention to her last time at Shangjing Restaurant, so she naturally didn’t know her face. It was indeed their first meeting today.

Sitting at the head, Chen Meilian, unable to contain her anger, shattered a teacup. But soon, she laughed again.

”I made a fool of myself, everyone. The meal should be almost ready, so let us proceed to the dining hall.”

Everyone then gradually stood and walked to the dining room.

Song Weili, following behind Old Mrs. Song, grumbled, ”That Mo Yiyi is too much. How dare she be so disrespectful to Grandma in front of everyone, even talking about ’family scandals should not be exposed.’ What ’family scandals’ does our Song family have anyway.”

Old Mrs. Song, upset by the whole ordeal, only became more enraged hearing Song Weili’s words.

”Enough; we are here to celebrate a birthday today. Let’s not say unnecessary things.”

Seeing Old Mrs. Song’s displeasure, Song Weili finally fell silent, knowing that the old lady liked Mo Yiyi even less. All the better, given how disrespectful Mo Yiyi was, boldly speaking to the old lady like that in front of so many people.

Once everyone arrived at the dining hall, the food was indeed ready, so they sat down and began to chat and laugh again.

Chen Meilian, of course, would not let a young girl affect her birthday banquet. Soon, she took control of the event, lifting the banquet’s atmosphere to its peak with her conversation.

After the luncheon, some people gradually left.

Yu Qiulan also took her leave with the others.

After Ding Yating saw everyone off, she returned to her room to find her mother, Chen Meilian, noting her mother’s fatigue with concern. ”Mom, are you all right?”

”Don’t worry, I’m fine. It’s just that I’m getting older, so I feel a bit tired.”

Ding Yating glanced around the large, cold room and couldn’t help but ask, ”Mom, wasn’t Father coming today? It’s your big birthday.”

Speaking of her husband, Chen Meilian’s face fell into gloom.

Seeing her mother like this, Ding Yating quickly stopped asking. She knew her parents never had a great relationship, so she immediately changed the subject.

”Mom, I saw Tingyu’s companion today, and she seemed familiar, but I’ve never seen her before. It’s really odd.”

Hearing this, Chen Meilian looked at her daughter intently and asked, ”You found her familiar?”

”Yes, I don’t know why, but she seemed recognizable.”
