The Rebirth of the Fierce Little Cute Girl

Chapter 228: Chapter 227: My Girlfriend

Old Mrs. Gu came today specifically to congratulate Yiyi’s family on the opening of their clothing store, so after some conversation, she immediately took out the prepared gift.

Ding Yuejun saw the small jade cabbage ornament that the elderly lady brought out and quickly said, ”Aunt Gu, this is too precious, we really can’t accept it.” Although she didn’t know much about jade, the white part of the cabbage ornament was clear and translucent, and the leaves were a vivid green, making it look extraordinary at a glance.

Yiyi also felt it was a bit too valuable.

”Grandma, this cabbage ornament is too valuable. Is it really okay to put it directly in the clothing store?”

Old Mrs. Gu waved her hand dismissively and said, ”What’s wrong with that? The ornament symbolizes wealth and is meant to attract fortune, so of course it should be displayed in the store. If you’re worried, you can place it somewhere less conspicuous.”

Seeing that Yiyi and her mother were still hesitant, Old Mrs. Gu quickly said, ”Oh dear, I’ve been out long enough, it’s time to go back.” But in the end, she looked at Yiyi and said, ”Yiyi, if you’re not busy, why don’t you come back with grandma? We can have a good talk, just the two of us.”

Ding Yuejun laughed and said to Yiyi, ”Yiyi, why don’t you go back with Aunt Gu?”
Yiyi didn’t refuse and returned to the Gu Family with Old Mrs. Gu.

When they sat down to talk, Yiyi recounted her encounter with Yu Qiulan. She spoke calmly and without embellishment about what happened at the restaurant. Though she didn’t feel she was in the wrong, it was a minor conflict involving Gu Tingyu’s mother, and it was better to clarify things to avoid any future misunderstandings with the elders.

Upon hearing Yiyi’s account, Old Mrs. Gu angrily slapped the table.

”The eldest daughter-in-law is getting worse as she ages. Not only does she not help her own family, but she’s also siding with outsiders. No matter how good Shu Yunfang’s family conditions are, it has nothing to do with us. Yet she keeps favoring that Shu Yunfang.”

Actually, Yiyi had already guessed some of it. It was simply because Shu Yunfang liked Gu Tingyu, and Yu Qiulan thought Shu Yunfang was good and wanted her son to be with Shu Yunfang. Unfortunately for her, Gu Tingyu liked Yiyi.

”Grandma, it seems Tingyu’s mother doesn’t like me.”

Old Mrs. Gu quickly replied, ”Yiyi, don’t worry about her. We like you, and that’s what matters. Your grandfather is the one who calls the shots in this family, so you don’t need to worry. Moreover, you’re so wonderful, anyone who doesn’t like you must be blind.”
Yiyi was amused by Old Mrs. Gu’s words.

”Grandma, I’m not as good as you say.”

”But you are that good.”

Old Mrs. Gu held Yiyi’s hand with a face full of kindness. She knew that Yiyi was the girl her grandson had a hard time liking, so of course, she was perfect in every way. However, considering that Yiyi would have to deal with the social circles in Shangjing in the future, she explained some situations to her.

Yiyi listened attentively and silently kept the details in her heart.

She also understood why Yu Qiulan liked Shu Yunfang so much. It turned out that Shu Yunfang’s mother was from the Ding Family, and even she, who hadn’t been in Shangjing for long, knew the Ding Family, which showed how influential the Ding Family was in Shangjing. She paid attention to the Ding Family initially because her mother’s surname was also Ding, so she paid extra attention. But there are many people with the surname Ding, and naturally, her mother and she couldn’t compare to the Ding Family in Shangjing. It was understandable why Yu Qiulan didn’t like her and preferred Shu Yunfang.

Old Mrs. Gu saw that Yiyi was listening attentively and nodded, saying, ”It’s good you remember, next time you meet them, I’ll point them out to you.”

”Okay.”

Yiyi smiled and nodded.

Old Mrs. Gu really treated her well, genuinely viewing her as a granddaughter-in-law, teaching her everything gradually.

As they talked, the phone rang, and Old Mrs. Gu stopped speaking, got up to answer it. When she heard the voice on the other side, she smiled broadly and said, ”Tingyu, is that you? I finally got your call. You called at the perfect time; Yiyi is right here with me, I’ll let her talk to you after we’re done.”

Gu Tingyu, upon hearing Yiyi was there, spoke with joy.

Old Mrs. Gu briefly explained, ”Tingyu, when will you be able to take a break? Once you do, we’ll have a family gathering so your parents, uncle, and aunt can all meet Yiyi, so they won’t be unaware if they see her around.”

Gu Tingyu naturally agreed, ”Grandma, I can take a day off next Sunday.”
”In that case, we’ll set it for next Sunday. I’ll arrange a lively feast here, so everyone can enjoy a meal together.”

After discussing, Old Mrs. Gu waved to Yiyi to talk to her grandson, while she thoughtfully went to her room to give them privacy.

”Yiyi, I miss you so much.”

As soon as Yiyi answered the phone, she heard this sentence, and her ears couldn’t help but turn red. She then playfully retorted, ”Gu Tingyu, what are you saying now.”

”I’m absolutely serious.”

Gu Tingyu spoke in a hoarse voice filled with longing. Earlier, he never understood why some couples liked being around each other constantly and found it annoying. But now that it was his turn, he finally understood this feeling. He also wanted to see that little girl every moment.

Yiyi’s face was bright red, but her heart was filled with joy. She secretly glanced around, ensuring no one was there, and softly said, ”I miss you too.”

Hearing the girl’s sweet voice, Gu Tingyu’s smile widened, and he finally said, ”We’ll be seeing each other next Sunday.”

The two continued chatting about each other’s happenings. Although they were just small and ordinary affairs, they found joy in whatever the other said.

Finally, when Yiyi faintly heard voices on the other end of the line, she realized time had passed, ”Gu Tingyu, hang up now, we’ll meet next Sunday.”
Although Gu Tingyu was reluctant, he knew he couldn’t delay further and let Yiyi hang up first. He only slowly put down the receiver after hearing the busy signal.

”Tingyu, who were you on the phone with for so long?”

The speaker was a handsome man with a buzz cut, whose dark skin did not detract from his good looks.

Gu Tingyu glanced at his friend Wei Zixiao and said, ”My girlfriend.”

”What... you have a girlfriend? Since when did this happen, why didn’t I know?”

Wei Zixiao couldn’t help but exclaim and circled around Gu Tingyu, saying, ”Let me guess, is it Shu Yunfang? I remember she seemed to like you since childhood.”

Upon hearing this, Gu Tingyu’s face turned a bit unhappy.

”Don’t say things carelessly; my girlfriend is Mo Yiyi.”
