Zenless Zone Zero: The Almighty Incubus of Sixth Street

Seeing Wise’s persistence, Venus was deeply moved, and her usual strong expression softened slightly.

”Thank you... Without you, he wouldn’t have left so easily. But now we’ve provoked the Black Anchor.”

”Never heard of them, but how did you end up getting involved with them?” Wise asked with concern.

”It’s a long story, and I’m partly responsible. Recently, I picked up a commission, and the client wanted to find Bangboo merchants throughout the Hollow of Port Elpis.”

Venus initially thought it would be a simple job, but the Proxy she assigned gave up halfway and returned.

The Proxy explained that after the client found the Bangboo merchant, they attacked it, smashing it to pieces as if to silence it.

Feeling scared, she quickly followed the instructions in ”Tips for Rookie Proxies.”

She deleted all the Bangboo merchant distribution maps, replaced them with ordinary escape routes, and, after leaving behind one route map, slipped out of the Hollow while they weren’t paying attention.

”Then, well... it’s exactly as you saw. The client was furious. Since they had already been blocked by that Proxy, they sent people to find me. That’s when I realized they weren’t ordinary clients. They were from the Black Anchor.”

”They told me to find an excuse to lure the Proxy out again, but of course, I couldn’t agree! My Proxy did the right thing, so this matter is over for her. Whatever happens next, I’ll take responsibility. After all, it was my subcontracted commission.”

After listening to Venus, Wise was speechless for a moment.

She really was a gentle and kind person.

”Attacking Bangboo and threatening citizens... truly heinous,” Wise said, his expression showing anger.

”Sigh... It’s my fault for not seeing through their disguise. If I had known the client for this job was a gang of ruffians, I would have never accepted it, let alone passed it on to a rookie.”

Venus was already prepared to apologize and compensate for the situation. She didn’t want to involve anyone else, though she still couldn’t understand why the other party was targeting the Bangboo merchant.

”Don’t worry. Since we’ve confirmed they’re not ordinary ruffians, I’ll handle this in a different way.”

Wise spoke with a sharp expression.

”A different way? Wait a minute, Wise, don’t do anything dangerous. If it comes to that, I’ll report it to Public Security. Although it might mean I won’t be able to continue this job in the future, as ’Tips for Rookie Proxies’ says, personal safety is the most important thing!”

Worried that Wise might do something reckless, Venus tightly held onto his arm, even trying to comfort him in return.

”For now, though, it hasn’t come to that yet. I’ll start by looking for a new place to live—somewhere safer, quieter, and ideally patrolled regularly by Public Security Officers.”

”In that case, how about Sixth Street?” Wise suggested.

”Good idea! That way, I can see you often, right? No time to lose. I plan to leave now, head to Sixth Street, and check for rental information along the way. Can you help me think about it?”

Venus still hadn’t released Wise’s arm, making her look slightly like she was pouting.

”No problem.”

”Great! Here’s today’s commission: Help Venus find a rental on Sixth Street. Reward: A daily coffee treat from a big sis.”

Venus was delighted, and the two headed to Sixth Street together.

They first visited the apartment across from the video store, but since the landlord wasn’t there, they couldn’t view the place. As a result, they moved on to the second option.

The landlord of this place was a strange man. From what he said, it seemed the only reason he rented out the apartment was because of his cat, Elle, also known as Cookie.

At first, he was very enthusiastic because Venus also had a cat of the opposite sex with the same markings, proving that he was a fellow cat lover.

However, he disliked dogs. After learning that Venus also had a large dog, he was even willing to waive the rent and pay her 500,000 Dennies just to make her get rid of the animal.

Venus naturally refused. In her opinion, there were things in this world that money couldn’t buy, such as emotions.

Just then, a woman with a peculiar tone suddenly approached them.

According to her, the rent for her house was cheap, and there were no restrictions on pets.

However, the house was still being prepared and couldn’t be viewed immediately. It would probably be ready around midnight, so the strange woman suggested meeting on Sixth Street in the evening.

The other party’s urgency made both of them suspicious, so Wise decided to accompany Venus.

”Before that, why don’t we rest at my place?”

”Eh? Well... alright then, if it’s not too much trouble.”

After inviting Venus into the video store, she showed the same enthusiasm toward Belle as before, treating the girl as if she were her own younger sister.

At midnight, the two arrived at the coffee shop together at the agreed time.

The strange woman introduced herself as Lana and said she would take them to see the house.

However, she soon began leading them into a deserted alley.

Wise immediately sensed that something was wrong, but Venus beside him still hadn’t noticed.

Once they reached the deeper part of the alley, several people suddenly rushed out and surrounded them. Among them was the ruffian who had previously threatened Venus.

Even someone as naïve as Venus immediately realized something was wrong.

A flash of fear crossed her face, and she instinctively tried to shield Wise. But before she could even take a single step, Wise had already moved.

With a speed she couldn’t even perceive, he knocked down every criminal surrounding them.

”Th-this...”

”Don’t be afraid. It’s alright now.”

Wise comforted Venus, who was still recovering from the shocking scene.

”I didn’t expect you, as a Proxy, to be so strong in combat! I kept wanting to protect you before, but I ended up being the one protected...”

”You’ve protected so many rookie Proxies, so naturally, someone needs to protect you too. Besides, these guys will have to be handed over to Public Security later.”

Wise originally planned to deal with the gang after making sure Venus was safe. However, he hadn’t expected them to act so quickly and come after him that same afternoon.

He pulled out his phone, intending to contact Zhu Yuan, but at that moment, a black shadow, only half the size of a person, rushed toward them at high speed.

”Hmm? Kami North.”

Wise immediately recognized who it was.

”Ah! Long time no see, Buddy!”

A Bangboo wearing a Public Security uniform greeted Wise.

Since Wise had helped him out during several previous commissions, he wasn’t surprised by the Bangboo’s sudden appearance.

After learning more, he discovered that Kami North had also been investigating the Black Anchor Gang recently.

Wise immediately offered to help, but Venus beside him looked worried.

”Wise, how about we forget it and leave it to the PubSec Officer? Public Security will make sure they receive the punishment they deserve, but please don’t put yourself in danger, okay?”

Venus grabbed Wise’s arm, her pleading expression difficult to refuse.

For someone who would rather face danger herself than allow her Proxies to get hurt, the last thing she wanted was to see someone important to her injured.

”Alright, I promise you. I won’t put myself in harm’s way.”

Of course, for him, there was no danger to begin with.

So technically, it wasn’t really putting himself in harm’s way.
