Zenless Zone Zero: The Almighty Incubus of Sixth Street

Tessa took the legendary album from Astra, her gaze lingering on it with what seemed to be deep emotion.

”Everyone has been saying that you’re the rising star who will carry on Joran de Winter’s legacy. I’m truly sorry to say this, but to me... no one will ever replace Joran.”

Whether it was just his imagination or not, Wise seemed to sense a trace of ruthlessness hidden beneath her words, leaving Astra feeling somewhat awkward.

”Ah... Joran’s music has always been my guiding light. Without him, I never, ever could have made it this far! Oh, right, I’d also like to thank you in person! I’ve always wanted to pay tribute to Joran through this performance, and I heard the company finally received your approval. I’m truly honored.”

Astra expressed her gratitude sincerely, the room’s lights illuminating her bright smile. By contrast, Tessa, standing with her back to them, wore a solemn expression.

”Pay tribute...? Today’s your debut performance at Starloop Tower. Honestly, performing your own work would already be more than enough. Joran... he belongs to the past now.”

After saying those words with a hint of melancholy, Tessa stepped forward, intending to leave. However, Astra clearly didn’t see things the same way.

”No, no! Joran’s music transcended time and space. He’s simply incredible! Honoring him on the stage of Starloop Tower has been my dream for as long as I can remember!”

”Heh, so that’s how it is. Then I wish you the best of luck tonight,” Tessa said expressionlessly. She returned the album to Astra, who seemed completely oblivious to the tension.

After happily accepting it, Astra watched as Tessa closed the door behind her and left. The three people beside her remained silent.

At that moment, Evelyn was wondering why Tessa had appeared here. This private room offered the best view in Starloop Tower and was usually reserved for VIPs.

To prevent anyone from the company from interfering, she had booked the room under Astra’s name.

Was it truly just a coincidence that Tessa had appeared at this exact moment?

Or could the other informant they had planted within the company be...

The only way to dispel her suspicions was to uncover the truth. After making up her mind, Evelyn bid farewell to Astra.

Using work as an excuse, she temporarily left the room. The moment she stepped outside, she immediately followed the direction Tessa had gone.

”Eve looks preoccupied. Is it really because of work?”

Astra looked toward the direction Evelyn had gone, feeling slightly concerned. As best friends, they both understood each other’s personalities well.

”Hmm, Miss Evelyn is a very cautious person. Astra, you don’t need to worry too much.”

Wise said this while looking in the direction Evelyn had disappeared, and Belle nodded in agreement.

”My brother is right, but the performance is about to start. Astra, aren’t you supposed to go backstage now?”

”Hm, there’s no need to worry. If I go too early, the director probably hasn’t calmed down yet...”

While the three were chatting happily, Evelyn had already deciphered the cipher the enemy used for communication.

”The clue indicated by the code is 8 PM, courtyard entrance. Hmph, they really trust me, don’t they? They won’t reveal the specific meeting details to me, a spy, until the very last moment, will they?” Evelyn snorted mockingly.

It seemed Fugue had never truly trusted her from the beginning. That explained why they had planted another mole within Odeum.

If it were her, she would have done the same. She would have arranged a double infiltration. If one operative was exposed, the other would already be in place as a backup.

”Whoever made these arrangements is certainly a capable individual,” Evelyn said.

She prepared to quickly inform Hobson of the enemy’s attack so his subordinates could handle it while she personally confirmed the other informant’s identity.

At that moment, her communicator rang.

”Mr. Hobson...”

”There’s a security breach. It needs to be dealt with immediately. Where are you?”

The man’s voice was filled with impatience.

”I’ve also discovered many clues related to Fugue, and I need to report them to you in person.”

Evelyn’s words clearly surprised Hobson, but he continued asking for her location. This made her frown slightly. If she wasn’t mistaken, he was probably planning to make a move against her.

But that was fine. She could use this opportunity to lure Hobson and his subordinates to the courtyard, where they would inevitably intercept Fugue’s attack.

”Let’s meet in the courtyard.”

”The courtyard? Alright. I’ll be waiting there.”

There was a deeper meaning behind Hobson’s words. After ending the call, Evelyn let out a quiet sigh, her expression caught between bitterness and resignation.

”So... I can’t hide it any longer. It’s time to reveal the truth.”

She couldn’t help wondering whether Astra would be disappointed once her true identity came to light. But there was no use dwelling on it now.

”Since I’ve already obtained intelligence on Fugue, I’ll deal with that first. As for the other informant... I’ll have to play it by ear.”

Unbeknownst to her, the concert was about to begin.

Evelyn took a deep breath and headed toward the courtyard. She couldn’t be too ruthless with Hobson’s men, as she still needed them to hold off Fugue.

Once both sides clashed, she would have enough time to uncover the mole’s scheme.

”Evelyn A. Chevalier. Former producer of Ridu Lucky Star, assistant director at Parcae Factory Films for three years, and a member of our company for the past two after joining on Monica’s recommendation... Quite an impressive résumé. Too bad it doesn’t belong to the real you, does it, Scheele’s Green?”

Hobson’s voice echoed through the courtyard.

Having expected this confrontation, Evelyn remained silent, calmly meeting his gaze.

”An elite spy from The Organization infiltrating the inner circle of our company’s most valuable asset... How unsettling. But a Fugue spy must be removed immediately, wouldn’t you agree?”

”Did that order come from Miss Yao?” Evelyn asked calmly.

Hobson couldn’t help but laugh.

”Ha. You don’t actually think that woman has ’free will,’ do you? As I told you before, she’s nothing more than one of our company’s most valuable assets. Someone like her has no place interfering with the company’s decisions.”

”...I’m the one who doesn’t belong here.”

Evelyn lowered her head slightly, her voice carrying a trace of bitterness.

She knew perfectly well that Astra would never give such an order, yet she still couldn’t stop herself from doubting... from suspecting... and, ultimately, from asking.

”Even beneath the sunlight, what crawls out of the darkness is still nothing more than a shadow...”

The self-mocking words escaped her lips in a quiet murmur. Yet in the very next moment, the hesitation in her eyes vanished.

She lifted her head and met Hobson’s gaze with unwavering resolve before sweeping her eyes over the subordinates standing behind him.

”You’re not wrong. I am, in fact, the spy planted by Fugue.”
