Zenless Zone Zero: The Almighty Incubus of Sixth Street

Wise set off with Burnice toward the Hollow Piper had entered, and before long, they found her trapped.

After defeating the group of enemies, Wise and Burnice immediately rushed over to check on Piper. Only after confirming she was unharmed did they finally breathe a sigh of relief.

”I can’t believe you found me. It seems news of us winning the lottery leaked, and the rumors just kept getting more and more outrageous. Someone trapped me and demanded I hand over the ticket...”

”How awful! Let’s go and talk some sense into them! I’m sure everyone can understand each other if we just chat!”

Burnice looked genuinely furious after hearing Piper’s story. Yet despite talking about reasoning, she looked more than ready to settle things with her fists.

The two soon learned from Piper that she had only allowed herself to be trapped because the bandits had threatened to scratch her truck, Steeltusk.

Wise was momentarily speechless. He had wondered why his ability hadn’t warned him. It turned out the one in danger wasn’t Piper at all, but her truck.

”Next time something like this happens, just fight back. If the truck gets damaged, I’ll fix it for you,” Wise said seriously, giving her a stern look.

”Eh? Ah... O-Okay, okay. This old woman understands. Don’t make that face. It’s scary...”

Piper looked at Wise innocently, clasping her hands in front of her.

”Actually, these guys look a bit familiar. They’re all poor folks from the Outer Ring~”

Despite saying that, Piper didn’t hold back once the fighting began. It seemed she genuinely resented the fact that they had threatened Steeltusk earlier.

Before long, every bandit who had tried to steal the lottery ticket had been subdued.

”Boss, I told you long ago... The other side has Burnice and Piper from the Sons of Calydon. We can’t beat them...”

”Cough, cough... But isn’t a true man supposed to do what he knows is impossible? I wanted that lottery ticket not just to pay my ex-wife’s child support... More importantly, it was to defend our homeland!”

The conversation between the bandit and his boss was overheard by the trio, and even Burnice couldn’t hide her astonishment.

”How amazing! You’re planning to pay child support with someone else’s lottery money, and you’re still thinking about defending your homeland? You truly are a hero. Your child will definitely be proud of you!”

Burnice’s words landed like a direct critical hit, completely shattering the man’s defenses, though she probably didn’t realize it herself.

The bandit boss immediately broke down into uncontrollable sobs. The sight was so pitiful that even Piper couldn’t bear to watch and stepped forward to comfort him.

”Uh... Believe me, Burnice doesn’t mean any harm. She always talks like this.”

The bandit boss then continued explaining himself, somehow making the story even more ridiculous.

According to him, there was supposedly a fuel maniac planning to fight to the death with whoever had won billions in the lottery because they intended to buy the entire area as a testing ground for Nitro-Fuel experiments.

Wise and Piper exchanged speechless glances after hearing that, while Burnice still looked completely innocent.

”What kind of fuel maniac could be even more amazing than me? Can you introduce me to them?

’No, I’m pretty sure he’s talking about you! And since when did the lottery prize become billions? These rumors are getting more outrageous by the minute!’ Wise and Piper thought speechlessly.

After Burnice explained that the lottery prize was actually only three million Dennies, the bandits finally realized the whole thing had been one giant misunderstanding.

”Boss, it looks like you believed the most exaggerated version of the rumor. They never planned anything like that...”

As the bandit explained things to his boss, Burnice suddenly seemed to think of something.

”Now that I think about it, burning down the Outer Ring does sound pretty cool!”

Great.

The plan that had never existed suddenly did.

”Burnice, take it easy. The misunderstanding is finally about to be cleared up.”

Piper quietly reminded her, while on the other side, the bandit boss sadly tried to reassure his subordinates.

”W-We came all this way for nothing... Everyone showed up hungry, hoping this lottery ticket would turn our lives around. Now it looks like we’ll just have to go home hungry...”

”It’s okay, Boss. It doesn’t matter if we didn’t get the money! At least our brothers’ low blood sugar is under control. No one will faint inside an Ethereal nest like last time...”

”Wait, wait, wait... We were the ones being harassed. Why does it suddenly feel like whoever looks more pitiful is the one in the right? Have we somehow become the bad guys?”

Piper stared at the scene with wide eyes, completely at a loss, before turning toward Wise and Burnice.

Wise didn’t react much, simply finding the bandits strangely amusing. Then Burnice suddenly clapped her hands.

”Alright! It’s decided!”

”M-May I ask what you’ve decided...?”

Piper looked at Burnice with a terrible premonition, and Burnice’s answer was exactly what she had feared.

”Of course! We’ll even provide self-service snacks at the First Burnice Cup Seven Days and Seven Nights Unlimited Drink Carnival! That’s right! Just drinking Nitro-Fuel would be too much for everyone’s heart!”

”What is this?” Piper asked, already knowing her bad feeling had been right.

”Didn’t I mention it before? Oh~ I guess I didn’t! But that’s okay. Saying it now is basically the same!”

She spoke excitedly before launching into an explanation.

”I plan to use my one million Dennies in prize money to buy all kinds of high-quality Nitro-Fuel and invite everyone in the Outer Ring to drink as much as they want for seven days and seven nights! What do you think? Everyone will definitely be happy!”

The bandit boss and his men could hardly believe their ears.

”T-This... Is this really true...? Free Nitro-Fuel and snacks? Can all the brothers come?”

”Boss... Y-You’re not dreaming... Burnice of the Sons of Calydon personally promised it!”

”That’s right, that’s right! You can even bring your ex-wife and your daughter! How old is your daughter?”

Burnice nodded naturally as she asked the question.

”She turned four yesterday.”

”Then I’ll reserve her a ticket for the 20th Burnice Cup first!”

”Ah... If only I’d known you planned to use the prize money for something so wonderful... W-What have I done...? I actually tried to rob such a golden-haired angel... such a pure saint...”

The bandit boss and his men openly wept.

Although it wasn’t difficult to tell from Burnice’s tone that she had planned to do this all along, these people had simply happened to cross paths with her.

Even so, there was no doubt her actions had won over yet another group of Outer Ring residents to the Sons of Calydon.

Afterward, Burnice cheerfully waved both arms as she saw the bandits off, watching them leave while supporting one another. Once they were gone, she turned to Wise and Piper with a bright smile.

”Did you hear that? They look so happy... Everyone really is a good person!”

”Uh... Wise, I’m honestly at a loss for words...” Piper admitted.

”What a touching scene... But Burnice, are you serious? Are you not keeping a single Denny from your one million? You’re really spending it all treating everyone to Nitro-Fuel?” Wise asked.

Burnice nodded without the slightest hesitation.

”Of course! Even before I had one million Dennies, I’d always wanted to do this! Everyone will definitely be happy!”
