Zenless Zone Zero: The Almighty Incubus of Sixth Street

Seeing this, Ellen didn’t immediately follow. Instead, she looked at Coco, who seemed like she wanted to say something but hesitated.

Just then, Wise’s phone suddenly rang. He took out his phone and saw a message from Koleda.

| Free tonight. Coming to your place to sleep. |

Coco swore she really hadn’t meant to peek. It was purely because of the angle, and she had only accidentally caught a glimpse of the message.

Then, to her slight shock, Wise gave an affirmative reply. However, she wasn’t the only one who noticed it.

Ellen had clearly seen the message as well, but she only glanced at it before casually turning her attention back to Coco.

”What were you trying to say just now?”

”No… nothing. You’re welcome to visit again next time…”

Even after they left, Ellen still hadn’t figured out what Coco had wanted to say.

As for Wise beside her, he understood but didn’t explain.

The two then arrived at the store Ruby had mentioned earlier. It was a general store, and when they arrived, she had just bought a bottle of drink.

”Waaahhh… How did I not win again?!”

”Thank you for your patronage.”

”Lynn, don’t repeat it just to provoke her.”

At Ruby’s insistence, Ellen also bought a drink.

When she opened the cap, she found that she had won.

”Ah… I won. It’s another bottle.”

”Eh? Why is this happening?! Am I really that unlucky? I’ve been buying these for a month straight…”

Ruby complained with a nearly teary expression.

”Uh… Ruby, you haven’t won even once? That’s hard to imagine…” Monna said.

The chances of winning another bottle from drinks like these weren’t usually that low. Buying them for an entire month without winning even once was a rare occurrence.

”No, no, buying another bottle will definitely be different! Wise, please! Go buy one for me!”

Since Ellen had just won, Ruby felt that asking her to buy another one would probably have a lower chance of success, so she turned to Wise instead.

He didn’t refuse and bought another bottle for Ruby.

The result was exactly as expected. He won another bottle.

”As expected of Ellen’s boyfriend!! He has the same luck as her!”

Ruby was extremely excited, while Ellen beside her seemed a little sleepy. Her head gently nodded as she spoke in a weak voice.

”The promotion should be enough. Let’s go home… Let’s go back.”

Ellen immediately realized she had accidentally spoken her true thoughts and quickly corrected herself.

Fortunately, Ruby and the others didn’t notice anything strange.

”Okay, let’s go!”

”Aren’t you two still going to discuss your group project? I’ll come find you later.”

”I want to make a video at the video store. This can also help broaden our ideas for the project topic! You wouldn’t turn away customers like us, would you?”

Since things had reached this point, it was difficult to refuse. So, the group returned to the video store.

”Pick whatever you want to watch.”

Ellen spoke in the tone of someone meeting good friends at work.

Although that was technically the case, she wasn’t impatient, but she also wasn’t particularly enthusiastic.

Ruby, however, didn’t mind. She looked at Ellen, who was still dressed in the maid outfit, and cleared her throat.

”Ahem, don’t you have that line?”

”Which one?” Ellen asked.

”It’s ’Welcome home, Master. You’ve worked hard today!’”

”Welcome home, Master. As for today’s hard-earned fee, please submit it before entering.”

To humor her friend’s joke, Ellen replied in a somewhat perfunctory tone.

Ruby couldn’t help but retort, ”This is a video store, not a maid café, isn’t it? Why do you need an entrance fee?! No, even maid cafés don’t collect hard-earned fees at the door!”

”Just know that this is only for renting videos. I’m only responsible for introducing videos to you. Call me when you find a video you like.”

”Then, Miss Clerk~ I want to watch an inspirational movie! Please recommend one for me!”

Ruby quickly changed her tone.

Seeing this, Ellen casually pulled out a video and handed it to her.

”You’re not a dedicated store clerk! You clearly just randomly picked one for me… Never mind, let me see what this is.”

Ruby looked at the title.

”’Toothy Shark Adventure’? What’s this movie about?”

”Let me check the synopsis… Oh, it’s an inspirational movie.”

”Are… are you sure?”

Ruby stared at Ellen. It was obvious that Ellen hadn’t even properly read the synopsis before starting to make things up.

”Yeah, it tells the story of a little shark who goes through various challenges in the deep sea, eventually growing into the master of the ocean—while enjoying lots of delicious food along the way.”

”Is… is that really true?”

”Yes, it’s a very good story.”

”But it says ’16+’ and ’Thriller’ on the cover... Wise, is it really as Ellen says?”

Ruby pointed at the text in the synopsis, giving Ellen a look that clearly said, ’Are you really not lying to me?’

She glanced at Ellen, then looked at Wise beside her.

”Uh… everyone interprets movies differently, so Ellen is right!”

Wise resolutely sided with Ellen. The latter then explained her reasoning.

”The word ’Adventure’ is always very inspiring. It seems like a movie that’s perfect for you... Oh, and there’s a second one—a travel and food documentary. Do you want to rent that one too? The plot is about the now-grown shark meeting many humans at the beach and starting a brand-new gourmet adventure.”

”Wait, wait… This shouldn’t just be a matter of different interpretations, right?”

Ruby couldn’t help but retort. In fact, if you viewed this film from a Shark Thiren’s perspective, Ellen’s explanation might not actually be wrong.

Maybe.

But Ellen definitely wouldn’t eat people. Well, human children didn’t count.

(T/N: Joke about cum, if you don’t get it.)

”Since you’ve asked so many questions, would you like to rent these two tapes, Miss Customer?”

”Um… I-I-I suddenly remembered I don’t have a playback device at home!”

Ruby became timid.

It was obvious she didn’t dare to watch horror movies.

However, Ellen had no intention of letting her off so easily.

”Miss Customer, if you don’t have a playback device at home, I, as the clerk, can lend you mine.”

”Ellen, I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have teased you! Go find Lynn quickly. I’ll just pick something by myself, waah…”

Seeing this, Ellen finally let Ruby go. However, when she approached Lynn, the latter’s request left her completely stumped in front of the video display rack.

She then looked toward Wise for help.

”Wise…”

”Don’t ask! Haven’t you been working here this entire time? Just find it for me.”

”I don’t know the type you’re asking about…” Ellen said helplessly.

”There should be many types like this… Wait, you’re not lying to us about working here, are you?”

Lynn’s gaze revealed a hint of suspicion. Ellen didn’t know how to explain herself, and at times like this, she still had to rely on Wise.

”Ellen was mainly responsible for stocking before. The film introductions in this store are mainly my responsibility.”

”Yes, just ask Wise directly. The type you’re looking for is too specific.”
