Super Rich by Doing as You Please

”Xu Yun, tell me, you’re not by any chance the richest man in Jiangcheng, are you?”

”I’m not.”

”In principle,” Xu Yun replied, ”I’m probably the richest person in the country.”

”...”

The mother and daughter looked at each other, their eyes filled with nothing but disbelief.

What did Xu Yun mean by that?

The richest man in the country?

The richest man in the country, and not even thirty years old?

Seeing their expressions, Xu Yun added with a smile, ”I said ’in principle.’ There’s a difference between that and being the *actual* richest man.”

Ou Jingya: ”What’s the difference?”

”It’s like those city officials from earlier. In principle, they are supposed to be overseen by the public, but in reality, they’re the ones calling the shots.”

Xu Yun spread his hands. ”Get it?”

”No.”

Ou Jingya shook her head. ’My brain is about to fry.’

”If you don’t get it, forget it. It’s better for women to be a little clueless. It makes them more likable.”

”???”

Hearing this, Ou Jingya complained to her mother, ”Mom, he called me dumb!”

”Well, you’re not that bright to begin with!”

Seeing how harmonious and friendly the relationship between her daughter and Xu Yun was, Wu Jinyan felt very gratified.

’A person is known by the company they keep.’

She believed that by being close to Xu Yun, her daughter would sooner or later become more and more outstanding.

”Mom.”

Ou Jingya said, mortified and angry, ”Am I your real daughter, or is he? Why are you taking his side instead of mine!”

”A teacher for a day is a father for life. In principle, I can also be considered your teacher’s son!”

Xu Yun teased with a smile, ”From now on, I won’t call you my junior. I’ll call you little sister, and you’ll call me big brother.”

”That’s a great idea.”

Wu Jinyan smiled. ”Sworn siblings. Then you can help me look after her in the future.”

”???”

Ou Jingya was immediately against it. She retorted, ”No way! Mom, don’t even think about it!”

’I want to be Xu Yun’s girlfriend!’

’Besides, the two of us have already kissed in the grove on campus!’

Ou Jingya glared at Xu Yun, mortified and furious. If looks could kill!

Xu Yun pretended not to notice.

”Even if you were willing, Xu Yun might not be.”

Wu Jinyan, oblivious to her daughter’s thoughts, said unhappily, ”Why are you reacting so strongly!”

”I...” Ou Jingya couldn’t voice her grievance.

Just then, Xu Yun came to her rescue.

”Teacher, I was just joking. Don’t be mad.”

Xu Yun smiled. ”Whether she likes me or not, I’ll do my best to look after her in the future.”

”Okay, Xu Yun. Thank you.”

Wu Jinyan said, ”This daughter of mine has been rebellious since she was little. She’s always acting like a child who won’t grow up.”

”She’s great. You’re just too demanding, Teacher.”

”Go on, take her side.” Wu Jinyan feigned annoyance at her daughter, but she was secretly happy to hear Xu Yun praise her.

”Xu Yun, see if you can find some time to bring your girlfriend over. Come to my place for a meal.”

Wu Jinyan said, ”We only met briefly last time and didn’t even get to talk. As your teacher, it’s only right that I treat her to a meal.”

”Uh, Teacher...”

Xu Yun said awkwardly, ”She’s not in Jiangcheng right now. Maybe next time. I’ll bring her to visit you then.”

”Oh, I see. That’s a shame.”

After the three of them finished their meal, Wu Jinyan left first.

Ou Jingya had a class in the afternoon, so after a bit more playful bickering with Xu Yun, she also left and returned to her office.

But things were different now. She was a celebrity at the university.

So as soon as she got to her office, her colleagues crowded around, congratulating her with smiles. ”Jingya, congratulations! Looks like you’re about to marry into a super-rich family.”

After all, rumors about Xu Yun and Ou Jingya had already been circulating privately among the university’s instructors for a while.

So when they heard that she had gone on stage to speak on his behalf for the donation today, they were one hundred percent certain it wasn’t just a rumor.

What surprised everyone the most was the sheer scale of this ”Xu Yun’s” wealth.

A donation of 1.5 billion in one go!

It was a number they couldn’t even dare to imagine!

This would absolutely be the top headline and trending topic tomorrow!

Ou Jingya smiled and denied it, ”Don’t spread rumors. There’s nothing going on. We’re just friends.”

”Nothing going on? You even went on stage to speak for him.”

A female colleague teased, ”I bet you went up there today as a family member, didn’t you?”

”...” Ou Jingya.

’The comment might be a bit of a stretch, but she loved hearing it.’

So she neither confirmed nor denied it, instead choosing to lower her head with a bashful smile, letting their imaginations run wild.

With that, even those who were skeptical before were now convinced, their eyes filled with envy, jealousy, and hate.

After sitting in her office for a while, Ou Jingya got ready to head to class.

On the way, the man who had a crush on her and had been pursuing her suddenly found her in private, looking rather angry.

Before Xu Yun appeared, he thought Ou Jingya had feelings for him, that she liked him, and that they had a chance to become a couple.

But now, everything had changed.

Ou Jingya was deliberately avoiding him, sometimes even completely ignoring his presence in the office.

”Jingya, I like you. I really like you.”

”Are you done? If you’re done, please step aside. I have to get to class.”

Ou Jingya looked at him coldly and said, ”And another thing. I hope that from now on, you won’t bother me again unless it’s about work. Otherwise, I’ll report you for sexual harassment.”

The man asked, getting emotional, ”Why? Why are you treating me like this? Haven’t I been good to you?”

Ou Jingya looked at him, not understanding what he was so angry about.

’Aside from being colleagues, we have no other relationship whatsoever. What gives him the right to question me with such an attitude and tone?’

Still, she answered, ”Because I have someone I like now.”

”What’s so great about that Xu Yun! Why would you choose him over me?”

The man said resentfully, ”Besides being a little more handsome than me and having some stinking money, what else has he got?”

”Well, would you kiss my feet?” Ou Jingya suddenly asked.

”...”

The man hesitated for a few seconds, then said firmly, ”I would! I can do that too!”

”You’re disgusting!”

Ou Jingya said with a look of disdain, ”He wouldn’t.”

”Then I wouldn’t either,” the man immediately corrected himself.

Ou Jingya shook her head. ”See, you don’t love me at all. He would.”

”???” The man was speechless.

Unbeknownst to them, Xu Yun had quietly walked up beside the man.

”Don’t be sad, bro.”

He patted his shoulder and comforted him, ”When someone doesn’t love you, everything you say is wrong!”

Then, he reached out, took Ou Jingya’s hand, and walked away with her.

”!!!”

Watching their departing figures, the man was so angry he nearly passed out!

After provoking the man, Xu Yun and Ou Jingya let go of each other’s hands after walking a short distance.

Ou Jingya: ”You were just holding my hand.”

”Yep, I was.”

Xu Yun shot her a sidelong glance with a smile and said helplessly, ”Next time you have a suitor like that, don’t ask those kinds of questions. I’m not that perverted.”

”Haha...”

Ou Jingya couldn’t help but laugh, then asked curiously, ”If I asked you the same thing, what would your answer be?”

”I don’t know.”

Xu Yun replied meaningfully, ”Unless you wash your little feet and put them in front of me one day, I won’t know what I’d do next.”

”...” Hearing this, Ou Jingya blushed furiously.

Xu Yun walked with her for a little while longer before they parted ways, and he headed to the principal’s office.

The donation was done for the day. As an outstanding alumnus of his alma mater, he didn’t have to show his face to the public, but he still needed to report to the university leaders in private, make an appearance, and discuss the details of the fund transfer.

Besides, he guessed that the city officials would definitely be in there waiting for him.

When they had greeted him and joked with him in public earlier, it was a hint.

’These officials are all so shrewd.’

’Good thing I’m pretty shrewd myself, or I wouldn’t have been able to read between the lines!’
