Super Rich by Doing as You Please

After all, his skills were considered top-notch in his reconnaissance squad in the border forces. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been discharged alive from a pile of bodies.

The reason he was discharged was that he had insisted on applying for it himself, all so he could live to take care of the families of his fallen comrades.

Otherwise, he could have stayed in the military for the rest of his life, until his eventual death in the line of duty!

Lin Wanzhou listened closely to the sounds coming from Xu Yun in the bathroom. He empathized deeply, but there was nothing he could do.

Most normal people go through a similar process the first time they experience something like this.

After his own first mission, he had come back and locked himself away for three days, not eating or drinking, and would periodically retch and dry heave.

Just like Xu Yun in the bathroom right now.

It went on until he finally passed out from starvation and was carried out by his comrades.

Through mission after mission, it took him a full three months to go from fear to acceptance, and finally to habituation!

’This isn’t something I can help him with. He needs to get through it on his own.’

Lin Wanzhou said with a complicated expression, ”You can try talking to him constantly through the door to distract him. Try to get him to relax. It might alleviate his condition.”

”What should we talk about?” Fu Baoying asked.

”I don’t know.”

Lin Wanzhou said, ”Just say whatever comes to mind. I don’t know if it’ll even work.”

”Brother Lin, what’s wrong with Xu Yun?”

Xino asked worriedly, ”Why is he like this?”

”It’s a stress response that occurs under extreme fear and stimulation.”

Lin Wanzhou explained, ”You can also think of it as his body’s way of protecting itself.”

”Okay, thank you, Brother Lin. I understand now.”

After all, Fu Baoying had more life experience and worldly knowledge than Xino, so she generally understood what Lin Wanzhou meant.

”Mm, call me if you need anything.”

Lin Wanzhou glanced one last time at the bathroom door.

’It’s hard to imagine that Xu Yun, with his incredible and proficient ”killing techniques,” was actually doing this for the first time.’

’It doesn’t make sense.’

’But Xu Yun had too many secrets about him.’

’The longer and more you interacted with him, the more you realized how mysterious and unfathomable he was.’

Whether it was finding Xu Xiaozhi in just a few short minutes or his actions tonight, it all made him feel like he didn’t understand at all just how powerful the real Xu Yun was.

’Some things can’t be obtained or accomplished just by having money.’

’And what’s more, he was so young!’

After Lin Wanzhou left, Fu Baoying and Xino, unable to get in, could only stand guard at the bathroom door. Following Lin Wanzhou’s advice, they began taking turns holding a one-sided conversation with Xu Yun inside.

Although Xu Yun didn’t respond at all, they continued to talk without giving up.

And gradually, the two of them noticed that the sound of Xu Yun dry-heaving seemed to grow fainter, before eventually disappearing altogether.

Eventually, having run out of things to say, Xino began to sing a cappella to Xu Yun.

Because Xu Yun had once told her he liked hearing her sing.

Inside the bathroom, Xu Yun’s mental state had indeed eased, and he felt much better.

He opened his eyes, listened to Xino’s singing from outside, and gave a bitter smile.

’Before tonight’s events, he never imagined the after-effects would be this strong, this intense!’

’He had also overestimated his own mental fortitude!’

’At one point just now, he felt his mind was about to break, that he would go crazy.’

’Fortunately, he managed to pull himself back from the brink.’

Xu Yun felt exhausted now and just wanted to get a good night’s sleep.

He stood up, stepped out of the bathtub, rinsed his body off under the shower, then wrapped a towel around himself and opened the bathroom door.

Fu Baoying and Xino stared, stunned, as Xu Yun appeared before them, seemingly unscathed.

”You must be tired from all that singing. Go get some rest.”

Xu Yun smiled and patted Xino’s head, then glanced at Fu Baoying and said wearily, ”Take me to your bedroom.”

”Okay.”

Seeing that Xu Yun seemed to be back to normal, Fu Baoying nodded in relief.

Xu Yun followed Fu Baoying to her bedroom, sat on the bed, and lifted his towel, revealing the wounds on his body.

They weren’t serious, all minor injuries, but there were quite a few of them.

Xu Yun smiled. ”Could you please help me clean and treat these? Thanks.”

”Mm.”

Fu Baoying brought over the first-aid kit and began treating the small wounds one by one, her heart aching for him.

She held back her emotions, her eyes red, and asked, ”Does it hurt?”

”It doesn’t hurt.”

Xu Yun joked self-deprecatingly, ”Old Lin’s injuries are much worse than mine. You should check on him when you go out later.”

”I will.”

After Fu Baoying finished treating all his wounds, Xu Yun, still unclothed, simply pulled back the covers on the bed and lay down.

”Alright, I’m going to sleep now.”

With that, he smelled the sweet fragrance of a woman on the bedding and fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.

Fu Baoying had been about to ask if he wanted her to stay and keep him company, but she saw that Xu Yun had fallen asleep instantly, his breathing even and rhythmic.

”Thank you, husband,” Fu Baoying whispered, then stood up, left the bedroom, and closed the door behind her.

Xino had been waiting outside. She asked with concern, ”How is Xu Yun? I just went into the bathroom and saw the whole tub of water was red with blood.”

”He’s fine. He’s already asleep.”

Fu Baoying comforted her, ”You should go get some rest too. Don’t wear yourself out, or there’ll be no one to take care of him.”

”What about you?”

”I still need to tidy up the house a bit. I’ll sleep after that.”

After settling and calming Xino down, Fu Baoying went to the living room to get Lin Wanzhou settled in a room, and then she went to clean up the bathroom.

She also took care of Xu Yun’s bloody clothes.

’Even though Xu Yun and Lin Wanzhou hadn’t said a word about what happened tonight since they returned with Xu Xiaozhi, she could tell just by looking at them how dangerous it had been.’

’It was probably a life-or-death situation; one wrong move and they wouldn’t have come back at all.’

’When it came to Xu Xiaozhi’s kidnapping, Xu Yun didn’t have to risk his own life. He could have just taken her advice and let the police handle it.’

’But he still disregarded the danger and resolutely chose to go himself.’

After she had done all this, Fu Baoying went to Xu Xiaozhi’s room. As she watched her, after being strong for three days, she suddenly couldn’t hold it in anymore and began to cry silently.

There was heartache, happiness, and she was deeply moved!

In another bedroom, Xino hadn’t gone to sleep after returning to her room; she was grieving silently by herself.

’Because this whole incident was her fault, all because of her carelessness.’

’Thank goodness Xiaozhi was rescued.’

’Thank goodness Xu Yun and Brother Lin came home safely.’

’Otherwise, she would never have been able to forgive herself; she would have felt guilty for the rest of her life.’

Xino had just been sheltered too well by her family and hadn’t experienced much of the world, but that didn’t mean she was a fool who understood nothing.

There were some things she understood in her heart, but she didn’t want to fully comprehend them or think about them too much.

She just purely and simply wanted Xu Yun to be okay.

...

Once Xu Yun fell asleep, he showed no signs of waking up.

If it weren’t for the fact that he seemed perfectly fine every time Fu Baoying and Xino checked on him, coupled with Lin Wanzhou’s reassurances, they really would have called a doctor to the house.

During the time Xu Yun was asleep, many things and subtle changes were constantly happening in the outside world because of what he’d done.

A shocking piece of news broke in the morning headlines on Hong Kong Island.

The police had received a tip last night and discovered an illegal overseas organization in the basement of an abandoned factory that was kidnapping and trafficking children for their organs.

A large number of children were rescued.

The news report stated that when the police arrived at the scene, they met with no resistance from any of the criminals.

This was because they discovered that the den seemed to have suffered a devastating blow at some point prior, dealt by an unknown force of an unknown number of people.

Over 15 criminals were found dead at the scene, all of whom had been stabbed multiple times while avoiding vital organs, and had ultimately bled out slowly.

The method was rather cruel, looking more like an act of cathartic vengeance.

It has not yet been determined who was responsible.

At the same time, the Hong Kong Island police also urged the public that this is a society governed by the rule of law. When encountering criminal activity, people should choose to call the police immediately and let them handle it, rather than resorting to violence.

After watching the news, Fu Baoying and Xino finally knew what had really happened last night.

So, it was the two of them, Xu Yun and Brother Lin...

Two people. Fifteen people.

The two of them looked at each other, their expressions complex. A wave of retroactive fear washed over them, but at the same time, it was as if they had made a silent resolution to bury this secret deep in their hearts forever and never tell a soul.

But it wasn’t long before the Hong Kong Island police officers in charge of the case came knocking on their door.
