Chapter 714: Chapter 315: Triple Promotion, Jian Shiwai is Dumbfounded

The remaining two people were silent, neither agreeing nor objecting.

Everyone knew President Dai had something to say, so it was best to hear him out before picking a side. They couldn’t afford to choose the wrong one.

“Since no one else is speaking, I’ll share my opinion.”

President Dai said, “Headquarters has been pushing for our management team to be younger and more dynamic. I feel Vice Governor Mou is just a bit too old.

Instead, I think we should promote someone from one of the branches below—someone who is both capable and young.

This will also set an example and give more of our younger employees hope. It will show them that if they work hard, they will be noticed.”

“In that case, President Dai, who from the branches do you think fits the bill?”

Dong Hongping already had a good idea who he meant. She smiled and asked, “You’re not talking about our Vice Governor Jian, are you?”

“Yes, that’s her.”

President Dai answered, “As a young professional, she’s highly educated—a Project 985 graduate with a degree in finance. Her business acumen at the branch is top-notch, and she handles her work flawlessly.

Most importantly, her interpersonal skills are exceptional. She’s excellent at bringing in major clients and significant resources for the bank.”

At this, everyone understood.

Everyone knew their branch had a “God of Wealth”—a single client with personal deposits exceeding ten billion.

It seemed that to keep this God of Wealth happy, President Dai was willing to let Jian Shiwai jump three ranks at once.

Or maybe she was just one of President Dai’s people.

After all, the regional governorship had always been held by one of his appointees.

“President Dai,” Dong Hongping said pointedly, “I recall Jian Shiwai was just promoted to Vice Governor not long ago, wasn’t she? To be promoted again after just a month, and straight to Regional Governor… isn’t that a bit inappropriate?

Many people in the lower ranks are watching, you know.

It’s unfair to the others and might cause discontent among the staff.”

“Discontent? Who’s discontent?”

President Dai stared at her. “Manager Dong, why don’t you tell me? I’d love to know who.”

“…”

“Desperate times call for desperate measures. This isn’t an era where we wait around for seniority. The position goes to the one who is capable.”

President Dai said with a stony expression, “If any of you have someone in your departments who can bring in a whale like that for our region, never mind a governorship—I’d give them my own seat!

But do you have anyone that talented?”

“…”

At this, Dong Hongping fell silent as well.

“I am now proposing Jian Shiwai for the position of Regional Governor. Who is in favor, and who is against?”

President Dai said, “Let’s put it to a vote by show of hands. And if even one person disagrees, we’ll stay in this room until the appointment is approved.”

With that, he was the first to raise his hand in approval.

Liu Xing was the second to raise his hand.

Seeing this, the other two had no choice but to follow suit.

President Dai looked at the hesitant Dong Hongping and asked, “Manager Dong, why aren’t you raising your hand? Do you have some issue with my recommendation?”

“No.”

Dong Hongping raised her hand. “I approve of President Dai’s decision!”

‘So much for democracy and a show of hands. It’s just a one-man show. Whatever he says, goes!’

‘Anything he wants done, gets done.’

‘Does anyone under him dare to object?’

‘Yes, if they don’t want their career anymore!’

‘Conversely, if anyone else wants something done, all he has to do is disagree, and he can veto it single-handedly.’

‘That’s just how things are.’

“Excellent. The five of us have unanimously approved the personnel appointment for Jian Shiwai.”

President Dai said to his secretary, “Draft the official appointment documents, send them to Manager Dong for her seal, and then publish the announcement on the company’s intranet.”

“Yes, President Dai.”

When the meeting ended,

Dong Hongping returned from the conference room with a grim expression.

‘President Dai is getting more and more tyrannical. He doesn’t give a damn about anyone else!’

‘But the most baffling thing was the sudden change in Jian Shiwai’s appointment. The original plan was for her to become Branch Governor after the New Year, but now she was suddenly being made Regional Governor.’

‘President Dai isn’t a charitable man. He wouldn’t do this without some personal benefit and an airtight reason!’

‘Could it be that Xu Yun pressured him again?’

‘No, that shouldn’t be it.’

‘A ten-billion deposit is a lot, but it’s nowhere near enough for him to break the rules and risk promoting Jian Shiwai to this position.’

‘If I reported this to headquarters, he would be in deep trouble.’

‘But from the looks of it, he’s completely unafraid, confident that even if he breaks the rules for this promotion, the higher-ups won’t hold him accountable.’

Dong Hongping hesitated for a moment, then decided to call Gao Xing at the branch to probe for information.

“Hello, Gao Xing.”

“Manager Dong, hello.”

Gao Xing was a little surprised to receive her call. He asked politely, with a smile, “I’m not sure what to expect from a sudden call from a superior. Do you have any instructions for me?”

“No instructions.”

Dong Hongping said bluntly, “I just wanted to ask if you have any new information about Xu Yun and Jian Xing.”

“Manager Dong, I’m not sure I understand what you mean.”

Dong Hongping knew Gao Xing was one of President Dai’s men. She smiled pointedly. “Gao Xing, you may be loyal to President Dai, but he may not be so loyal to you. When a good opportunity comes along, you might not be the first person he thinks of.”

“Manager Dong, I still don’t understand what you’re getting at.”

Gao Xing deflected. “I work for the bank, not for any one individual.”

“Then let me give you a heads-up.”

Dong Hongping said, “We just finished a committee meeting today. In it, President Dai proposed transferring Jian Shiwai to the regional office to serve as Governor, and it passed unanimously. You’ll be seeing her appointment documents come down very soon.”
