Super Rich by Doing as You Please

”But what if he actually finds it?”

”If he finds it, then it’s fate.”

Chen Xin sighed. ”I have to marry someone eventually. I might as well marry him. At least he’s rich.”

”I’m rich too! And I’m handsome!”

Chen Xin looked at him expectantly. ”So, will you marry me?”

”...” Xu Yun had no reply.

”See? You’d never give up the whole forest just for me.”

Chen Xin said with a touch of sadness, ”You should go. When you finally decide you want to marry me, come find me then. I need to get back to writing and earn some money.”

”...” Xu Yun was speechless again.

’Something’s not right!’

’Something is very wrong with Chen Xin!’

’I just went to the bathroom, and the whole mood changed.’

After leaving Chen Xin’s place and returning to his own room, Xu Yun looked at the long string of stickers on his phone and finally understood what was going on.

’I’ve probably been found out!’

”That silly woman. She has no idea how to pretend or lie.”

Xu Yun smiled, deciding not to dwell on it.

’She doesn’t want me to know that she’s found out, so I’ll just pretend I haven’t noticed.’

Just then, his mother, Zhang Sujuan, came back from playing cards.

Xu Yun asked, ”Mom, how was your luck today?”

”Not good. I lost over 500.”

Zhang Sujuan said, ”What do you want for dinner? I’ll make it for you.”

”Just make whatever.”

”Okay.”

And Zhang Sujuan did just that, whipping up a simple meal: one meat dish, one vegetable dish, and a soup.

While they were eating, Xu Yun said, ”Mom, I went to West City this morning. I took your advice and bought a few storefronts.

I’ll need you to handle the registration paperwork for me. Have Chen Xin help you draft the power of attorney, and you can just forge my signature.”

Zhang Sujuan asked, puzzled, ”Why don’t you go yourself?”

”I’m heading back tomorrow.”

”You’re not staying a few more days to keep me company?”

”You need me to keep you company?”

Xu Yun chuckled. ”You spend every afternoon at the mahjong parlor with your friends. It’s always a party over there.”

”You think I want to? It’s just that I have nothing better to do. I’m bored out of my mind.”

Zhang Sujuan laughed. ”If you could give me a grandchild, I promise I’d be home every day looking after the baby. I’d give up mahjong for good.”

”Never mind. You should just stick to mahjong.”

Xu Yun said, ”There’s a lot to do at the company. I can’t just let my partner do all the work while I’m at home goofing off.”

”That’s true.”

Zhang Sujuan was reminded of her brother. She said, ”Oh, right. Your younger uncle called me today. He said he wants to come see you tomorrow.”

”What about?”

”Your uncle wants to get your cousin a job at your company.”

”Uh...”

Xu Yun laughed and replied, ”Isn’t she doing just fine at her government job? Every time we have a family dinner during the New Year, she loves to brag about it and look down on us workhorses in the private sector.”

”It might be a good job, but she’s just a temp. The benefits are way different from a permanent position. And nowadays, to get a permanent position, you have to pass an exam for any opening.”

Zhang Sujuan said, ”Your cousin has taken the exam for three years straight and hasn’t passed.”

”Hearing that, it sounds like she really doesn’t have a talent for serving the people.”

Xu Yun sighed. ”But I don’t think she’ll be able to get into my company, either.”

”Why not?”

”Because the minimum requirement for hiring at our company is a degree from a Project 985 university. Her educational background doesn’t meet the standard.”

Xu Yun explained, ”The company isn’t just mine. When we founded it, we made a clear rule to prevent relatives from either side from getting in through the back door. We have to follow company regulations.

Otherwise, I’d get one in, he’d get one in, and before we know it, the whole company would be filled with relatives. How could we manage it then?

Not to mention, if all these relatives are drawing high salaries without having the ability to make money for the company, we’d be guaranteed to go under.”

”...”

Hearing this, Zhang Sujuan thought what Xu Yun said made sense.

’It’s right to help her own brother, but she couldn’t ruin her son’s future just to do someone a favor.’

”Okay, I understand.”

Zhang Sujuan said, ”I’ll handle your uncle for you. You don’t have to worry about it.”

”Mom, feeling tough now, are we?”

Xu Yun smiled. ”Aren’t you afraid of offending Uncle?”

”Not afraid.”

’She wasn’t the same person she used to be. She had the confidence now; she wasn’t the least bit afraid of offending anyone.’

’If he could understand, great. If not, so be it!’

’Back when Xu Yun had just graduated, she had asked her younger brother to find a way to get Xu Yun a temporary job in a government office, but he refused. He said it was too difficult, that there were no openings.’

’He just wasn’t willing to ask for favors for Xu Yun’s sake.’

’Now you want a good job for your daughter, and my son is telling you it’s difficult. Seems perfectly reasonable, doesn’t it?’

”No, Mom. Let me be the bad guy.”

Xu Yun said, ”I’m not home much anyway, and we barely see each other. No matter how upset Uncle gets, I won’t be here to see it.

So when he comes tomorrow, just tell him I’ve already left and that he should call me directly.”

”Alright, then. I’ll do as you say.”

...

At Jianghuai Middle School, Gao Wenwen walked home alone after her evening class.

She had become something of a celebrity at school today.

Everyone now knew she had a tycoon boyfriend who had bought out an entire street in the West City Commercial Center today and even gifted her a large storefront worth hundreds of thousands.

Gao Wenwen deeply regretted going to look at the property with Wang Dan.

’Great. Now a baseless rumor has started, and I’ve suddenly got a tycoon boyfriend!’

’It would have been one thing if he were really my boyfriend. But the key was, I only had a one-night stand with Xu Yun.’

’If Xu Yun found out about this, what would he think of me?’

’This town is so small. His parents are bound to find out sooner or later.’

’What am I going to do then?’

’Am I supposed to tell them it’s all fake, that I was just making it up?’
