Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

138: In the end, he still couldn’t catch up.Suddenly, their expressions changed as they remembered the group of crazed Devil Frogs; they hadn’t expected Ai Yue to be the cause.

”Aha! So you were the one behind it, driving those Devil Frogs mad and making them chase us relentlessly! They destroyed our car and left us covered in wounds! You’ve made us look so pathetic!”

”Ai Yue, how can you be so persistent? Even out here in the middle of nowhere, you still find a way to plague us... you... you’re simply a massive disaster, a total bitch!”

Gu Xitian grew more and more furious as she spoke, finally cursing without restraint.

Ai Yue’s gaze turned cold. Using Extreme Speed, she lunged forward, and with a crisp ’slap,’ she struck Gu Xitian across the face.

”You know very well we’re out in the wild, yet you still dare to be so arrogant? Keep your mouth clean, or I won’t mind drawing some blood!”

Ai Yue looked at her coldly, her voice laced with bloodlust.

”Ai Yue! You shouldn’t have hit her! Even if she misspoke, you shouldn’t have laid a hand on her!” Cheng Siyu said coldly.

”Right! I shouldn’t have used my hand. I should have used a knife to stab her to death and shut that foul mouth of hers forever!” Ai Yue rolled her eyes at Cheng Siyu.

”You... how can you be so unreasonable?” Cheng Siyu was left speechless by Ai Yue’s retort and could only look at Gu Xiheng nearby.

Gu Xiheng took a deep breath, feeling quite frustrated. Why did his sister have to keep picking a fight with Ai Yue, always trying to get the last word?

Moreover, Ai Yue hadn’t shown any leniency toward his sister for his sake. Her behavior made him feel very uneasy.

”Alright, that’s enough. Ai Yue, aren’t we friends? I hope that if she makes a mistake again, you’ll let me be the one to discipline her, okay?” Gu Xiheng said helplessly.

Ai Yue was noncommittal, simply shrugging without a word.

Gu Xitian was miserable. Her brother didn’t help her or get revenge on the person who bullied her; instead, he spoke to that bitch woman so politely.

His attitude infuriated her, and she was about to shout when Cheng Siyu held her back. ”Xitian, the road ahead is long. There will be other opportunities!”

Gu Xitian resentfully swallowed her anger.

”Don’t just stand there, hurry up and go! I’m leaving too. Until we meet again.” Seeing that Gu Xitian had stopped making a scene, Ai Yue spoke up.

After saying that, she started walking in the opposite direction.

Without a second thought, Gu Xiheng followed. Seeing him leave, the others followed suit in a swarm.

Hearing the movement, Ai Yue immediately turned back to advise them: ”Young General, I suggest you take your people and don’t follow me. I’m not joking—following me is extremely dangerous!”

Gu Xiheng looked conflicted. ”But I can’t just stand by and watch when I know you’re in danger.”

”I’ve lived perfectly fine for a month without your help, so you can rest assured that I won’t kick the bucket so easily.” Ai Yue truly appreciated Gu Xiheng’s kindness.

She really didn’t want to involve them; if they encountered danger, she’d have to find a way to save them.

Ai Yue waved her hand to stop Gu Xiheng from speaking further. ”I know you’re loyal and not afraid of danger, but you have to think about the brothers you brought out. They are all living souls. Don’t let them lose their lives because of a wrong decision...”

Gu Xiheng’s expression of concern for Ai Yue froze. He looked back at everyone, and his eyes cleared a bit. ”You’re right! I should protect them. I can’t lead them into a dangerous place.”

Gu Xiheng paused and continued, ”I can only apologize to you as a friend!”

”Hey, until we meet again!” Ai Yue said and prepared to leave.

Just then, a loud ’croak’ echoed through the skies. Ai Yue’s expression changed instantly. She turned and ran, shouting without looking back: ”The Devil Frogs are here! Run in the opposite direction from me!”

Cheng Siyu and the others also paled. They bolted in the opposite direction, wanting to get as far away from Ai Yue as possible.

Gu Xiheng originally wanted to chase after Ai Yue, but in the end, he didn’t take that step. Instead, he turned and ran toward the crowd.

Just like that, the distance between him and Ai Yue grew wider and wider!

Running alone, Ai Yue felt a small sense of disappointment when she saw no one following, but she quickly put it behind her. Men and such were better watched from afar; whatever you do, don’t let them get close.

This kind of emotion was unwanted; she needed to focus on escaping!

Ai Yue used her Extreme Speed Superpower to quickly leave the area. A large swarm of Devil Frogs followed closely behind her, all chasing Ai Yue; not a single one went after Gu Xiheng and the others.

Seeing this from afar, Gu Xiheng and the others couldn’t help but breathe a deep sigh of relief. Fortunately, they hadn’t followed Ai Yue, or they might have been eaten by now.

Gu Xitian patted her chest, looking relieved. ”Luckily we ran fast and didn’t follow that bitch Ai Yue. Otherwise... tsk tsk... Heh, looks like that annoying pest Ai Yue is in for a bad end. So many Devil Frogs... sigh, what a pity!”

Hearing Gu Xitian’s words, Gu Xiheng’s expression changed. Clenching his fists, he was about to chase after Ai Yue, but Cheng Siyu, who had been watching him, grabbed him. With a tense expression, she said, ”Xiheng, what are you doing? This is no place to linger. Let’s take your sister and leave quickly.”

Gu Xiheng was stopped, his expression shifting unpredictably. He tried to break free from Cheng Siyu, but she immediately tightened her grip, holding him firmly and refusing to let go. Her tone was almost pleading: ”Xiheng, Miss Ai Yue is so powerful, she’ll definitely be fine. Didn’t she say she’s been chased by Devil Frogs for a month? She’ll be alright!”

”My sister and I are so scared. Please take us away quickly. If a Devil Frog jumps out and you’re not here, Xitian and I will be in great danger!”

Only then did Gu Xiheng stop struggling. He looked at the beautiful Cheng Siyu, then at his sister who was glaring at him crossly, and finally at his brothers-in-arms who trusted him with their lives. Ultimately, he lowered his hands powerlessly.

With bitterness in his voice, he said, ”Let’s go. Let’s get out of here!”

The tense Cheng Siyu finally let go of Gu Xiheng. She had a premonition that if she hadn’t stopped him, she might have lost him forever.

Fortunately, in the end, he stayed!

Ignoring their physical pain, everyone sped away. Although they didn’t know why the Devil Frogs only chased Ai Yue, they figured she must have done something bad to be haunted by them and unable to escape.

Everyone just wanted to stay far away from such an Ai Yue, praying she wouldn’t drag them down.

Ai Yue was once again chased by the Devil Frogs, jumping and scurrying about. Currently, she had no good way to lose them, but remembering that the Devil Frogs were terrified of the mountain where they currently lived, she decided to head home and try it out.

She could only hope that the mountain would be effective and scare them into stopping their pursuit.

She didn’t know if this was the right decision. What if that mountain couldn’t intimidate so many Devil Frogs?

Then her actions would be like playing with fire; one mistake, and her whole family would suffer.

Better wait and see. If there was really no other way, that would be her last resort.
